SUMMARY:George Thorogood & The Destroyers "The Baddest Show on Earth"
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of December 1st\, 1973 at The University of Delaware’s Lane Hall\, a guitarist\, a drummer\, and their rhythm guitarist set up on the small bandstand. Though the three-piece band had barely rehearsed\, guitarist George Thorogood and drummer Jeff Simon had been bashing out covers of songs they loved – including ‘No Particular Place To Go’\, ‘Madison Blues’ and ‘One Bourbon\, One Scotch\, One Beer’ – in suburban Wilmington basements since they were teens. \nThe Lane Hall audience was wary at first. “Then it was like somebody flipped a switch\,” Simon recalls. “Everybody hit the dance floor all at once.” “We had the place rockin’\,” Thorogood says. “From that very first show\, Jeff and I knew we were onto something.” Five decades\, 15 million albums and more than 8\,000 performances later\, few bands can still rock the house like George Thorogood & Destroyers. And for Thorogood\, Simon\, and long-time Destroyers Bill Blough\, Jim Suhler and Buddy Leach\, their Bad All Over The World – 50 Years of Rock Tour will be a celebration like no other. But when asked to pick a career highlight\, maybe one night over the past half century that changed everything for George Thorogood & The Destroyers\, he shakes his head\, flashes a huge grin and heads off to soundcheck. “My highlight is when I step on that bandstand\,” Thorogood says. “The promoters invited us\, the fans came to hear us\, and we’re ready to rock. Every night I play for people can be the biggest night of my life.” \nOpening Act: Canyon Lights\n \n  \nFronted by Tim Carman and Pat Faherty\, formerly of GA-20\, Canyon Lights are a blend of throwback rock n’ roll\, swampy Americana\, and heavy blues. \nFriends and bandmates since 2018\, Pat and Tim have racked up thousands of hours performing on stages all over the world. Their love of blues music fueled their explosive performances with GA-20\, a three-time #1 charting blues band from Boston\, MA. \nIn 2023\, Pat and Tim began connecting over their mutual love of 70s rock n’ roll bands like Mountain\, Thin Lizzy\, and James Gang. Inspired by this era\, Pat proposed the two work out some song ideas he had been playing with. At the same time\, Tim revealed to Pat some personal lyrics he had held onto for years. The songwriting connection was instant and unique. Pat and Tim realized that this was a new venture\, not strictly blues and not confined to any lane of creativity. The two flew to Denver in early 2024 to put these sounds on tape with friend Dylan Brown at the helm as engineer and co-producer. From this session\, Canyon Lights was born. \n“The songs on this album are among the most personal we’ve ever written and recorded. Spending 200 days a year on the road\, struggling with separation and loss\, the thrill and loneliness of living out of a suitcase… a lot of blood\, sweat\, and tears went into this album. We held nothing back and we can’t wait for you all to experience these stories with us…”\n-Pat and Tim \nAfter finishing the album\, which featured bass guitar (played by Pat) on every track\, the pair realized they needed a third member to cover the low end live. They reached out to friends in the music community for suggestions and one name kept turning up: Heather Gillis. \nPat and Tim flew to Nashville\, TN to meet and jam with Heather\, and the connection was instant. Gillis\, a talented multi-instrumentalist\, has extensive touring experience with artists like Butch Trucks and Lindsay Lou and also leads her own group called Wolf Twin. While in Nashville\, the trio recorded a live version of their original song “Seventh Son\,” which they released December 5\, 2024. \nSince then\, things have moved fast for the trio. After the release of “Seventh Son\,” they signed with Burning House Management and Madison House Booking Agency and booked a slew of national tour dates including a stretch of shows opening up for the legendary George Thorogood & The Destroyers. \nThe word is out on this new trio. DESCRIPTION:Adam Larson is an American saxophonist\, composer\, educator and author currently residing in the Kansas City-area. \nLarson holds BM and MM degrees in jazz performance from The Manhattan School of Music and was a part of the vibrant NYC jazz scene for eleven years before relocating in 2019. While a resident of the KC-Metro\, Larson has held positions at UMKC Conservatory\, University of Kansas and The Kansas City Art Institute. Larson currently teaches Entrepreneurship at KCAI. \nLarson continues to perform in NYC with some of the greatest musicians in the genre. \nAs a guest artist\, Larson has been invited to present masterclasses on music business\, improvisation and composition at more than one hundred universities across the globe. \nAdam has recorded eight albums as a leader and maintains an active touring and clinician schedule\, playing and presenting his original music and educational materials. \nhttps://www.adamlarsonjazz.com/ \n  \nThese events have been funded by the Frederica G. DESCRIPTION:For The Outlaws\, it’s always been about the music. For more than 40 years\, the Southern Rock legends have celebrated triumphs and endured tragedies to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Today\, The Outlaws have returned with new music\, new focus and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history\, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all\, it’s about pride. \nIt’s About Pride was also the title of the band’s acclaimed 2012 album\, universally hailed as their victorious comeback. “Because The Outlaws had been out of the public eye for so long\, it was almost like starting over\,” original singer/songwriter/guitarist Henry Paul explains. “But because of the band’s history\, we’re still seeing this as a new chapter. What our fans loved then is what they still love now\, because we are just as good or even better than we were.” For co-founding drummer/songwriter Monte Yoho\, the journey is both bittersweet and jubilant. “I still think about the friends we made when we first came into this industry\, how we struggled to define this thing that became known as ‘Southern Rock’\,” Yoho says. “The Outlaws still embody all the things we shared musically and personally\, most of all the relationship we have with our fans to this day.” \nHistory lesson: Formed in Tampa in 1972\, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums The Outlaws\, Lady In Waiting and Hurry Sundown – featuring such rock radio favorites as ‘There Goes Another Love Song’\, ‘Green Grass & High Tides’\, ‘Knoxville Girl’ and ‘Freeborn Man’ – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as ‘The Florida Guitar Army’ by their fans\, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers\, The Who\, Eagles and The Rolling Stones. Henry Paul left after the group’s third album to form The Henry Paul Band for Atlantic Records\, and later co-founded the multi-Platinum country trio Blackhawk. Over the next 20+ years\, The Outlaws would experience rampant personnel changes\, tonal missteps\, ill-fated reunions and bitter trademark battles that left fans – not to mention Paul and Yoho – frustrated and saddened. And with the tragic deaths of co-founding members Frank O’Keefe and Billy Jones in 1995\, and especially songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist Hughie Thomasson in 2007\, it was feared that The Outlaws’ trail had come to an end. \n“The Outlaws were the one area of my career where I had regrets\,” admits Paul. “More importantly\, I think it was the one area in my career where I thought I still have something to prove. I felt compelled to stick my neck out and take a chance of putting this band back together. I knew we would be judged\, but I hoped we would be judged on our abilities.” Along with founding members Paul and Yoho\, the band features several of Southern Rock’s most respected veterans: Keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins is a co-founding member of Blackhawk\, and has written hit songs for artists that include Restless Heart\, Kenny Rogers and Eric Clapton. Longtime Outlaws’ bassist/vocalist Randy Threet has performed with Trisha Yearwood\, Pam Tillis and Blackhawk\, and is familiar to TV audiences from USA Network’s ‘Nashville Star’. Lead guitarist Steve ‘Grits’ Grisham was a member of the Soldiers Of Fortune era Outlaws\, as well as a noted songwriter whose tracks include The Henry Paul Band’s Top 40 hit\, ‘Keepin’ Our Love Alive’. Co-lead guitarist Dale Oliver is one of Nashville’s most versatile producers/songwriters/musicians and was formerly Blackhawk’s lead guitarist and bandleader for more than 10 years\, co-writing their hit ‘Almost A Memory Now’. “From the very beginning\, The Outlaws had heart\,” Monte Yoho says. “And a lot of people who come out and see this incarnation of the band now are responding to the exact same things we used to put on stage in the ‘70s and ‘80s.” \nOn that stage\, the band burns hotter than ever: “The Outlaws helped define Southern Rock for me and for generations of fans\,” wrote music journalist Bill Robinson in The Huffington Post. “Seeing them onstage with The Charlie Daniels Band\, Marshall Tucker Band\, Allman Brothers\, Lynyrd Skynyrd or countless others was\, for a long time\, one of the best experiences I could have. And so it was again when I saw The Outlaws play recently.” The Outlaws’ live shows –vividly captured in their 2016 double album Legacy Live – are blazing 2+ hour tributes to the band’s rich history and fiery rebirth. Classic tracks and fan favorites from the first three albums – as well as The Henry Paul Band’s definitive ‘Grey Ghost’ – share the spotlight with new songs that are already being embraced by audiences. “I think our new material goes back to those first three classic albums\, when the band was proud of its influences from country\, blues and jazz\,” says Paul. “Plus\, Steve and Dale have honored and maybe even stepped up the legacy of the ‘guitar army’. Fans are coming away from shows feeling a renewed part of the Outlaws experience.” \nThe Outlaws are now headed back on the road\, back on the radio and back into the hearts of fans nationwide. “I’m seeing this thing we’ve had for more than four decades be exposed to whole new audiences\,” Monte Yoho says. “We’re having a second life as a band\, and it feels better than ever. DESCRIPTION:THIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT!\nWhen Charlie Starr started writing the songs that would become Blackberry Smoke’s new album\, Be Right Here\, the first tune the vocalist/lead guitarist worked up was “Dig A Hole.” Formed by an old guitar riff married with a Wurlitzer chorus riff written by keyboardist Brandon Still\, the swampy psychedelic-rock song is a powerful statement about choosing your path in life—whether you want to give into temptation or walk a more righteous road. \n“In life\, we all are faced with choices\,” Starr says. “Are we going to do good\, or are we going to do bad? Are we going to love\, or are we going to hate? We have a finite amount of time\, each of us on this Earth. So probably want to make the best out of it instead of wasting time.” \n“Dig A Hole” is the lead track on Be Right Here and sets the tone for another expansive set of rock ‘n’ roll from Blackberry Smoke. As always\, the Georgia-based band—Starr\, Still\, guitarist/vocalist Paul Jackson\, bassist/vocalist Richard Turner and drummer Brit Turner—draw inspiration from Southern rock\, blues-leaning classic rock and rootsy vintage country. But on Be Right Here\, Blackberry Smoke sound even more self-assured\, from the strength of their songwriting to their musical execution. \nOver the past two decades\, Blackberry Smoke has developed this confidence and amassed a loyal fanbase\, leading their last five full-length albums to achieve great chart success\, including 2021’s You Hear Georgia\, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart. \nThe band wrote and recorded You Hear Georgia during the most intense periods of the pandemic but held off on releasing it until they could go tour again. Starr says Blackberry Smoke took the same deliberate approach with Be Right Here\, which was recorded in late 2022 and early 2023\, around the same time drummer Brit Turner was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor known as Glioblastoma. “We didn’t feel a whole lot of pressure to go in and make this one quickly\,” Starr shares. \nWorking once again with Grammy-Award winning producer Dave Cobb\, Blackberry Smoke has crafted music that’s raw and immediate-sounding. They tracked the album live in the same space; an approach Cobb also prefers as it lends itself to a looser vibe. “I remember different times I would say\, ‘I think we should redo that\,’ and he’s like\, ‘No\, leave it that way. That way it’s magical\,” Starr remembers. “It’s just as natural and real as possible.” \nLocation also factored into Be Right Here’s sound as they recorded most of the album at Nashville’s beloved RCA Studio A\, and then polished it off in Cobb’s studio in Savannah\, Georgia. “It’s down in the low country and beautiful\,” Starr says of the space\, called Georgia Mae. “This album has a swagger to it\, a deep in the pocket kind of feel. Those surroundings helped give the record that feel.” \nBe Right Here’s lyrics are particularly literary\, full of vivid and relatable characters that ensure the songs often resemble rich short stories. For example\, “Whatcha Know Good\,” a co-write with Brent Cobb\, is a “feel-good song” driven by an amiable narrator who gets along with everybody and dislikes negativity. “There’s plenty of bad news when you turn on the television\,” Starr says. “The dude in this song\, he doesn’t want to hear it anymore. He wants to go to fishing and talk about good news. We were giggling the whole time because we know that guy. Maybe we are that guy.” \nA laid-back\, Stones-like guitar lick from former Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson inspired “Like It Was Yesterday\,” helping Starr conjure another very specific character: an earnest young guy who doesn’t have much life experience\, but knows what he likes and is grateful for good times. “I picture him laying on the hood of his car with his girl\, staring up at the moon and the stars\,” Starr says. “It’s the idea of holding onto that fleeting moment\, because it can slip away from you.” \nOther Be Right Here highlights include “Azalea” and “Little Bit Crazy\,” both co-written with Starr’s frequent songwriting collaborator Travis Meadows. The latter song\, which begins with a chorus of soulful gospel singers before blooming into a languid Southern rocker\, features a narrator who’s embroiled in a relationship that’s fun\, but not necessarily healthy. \nMeanwhile\, the lovely\, elegiac folk ballad “Azalea” is centered on someone who seems emotionally bereft and spiritually lost\, but is working hard to find their way home. “It’s a heavy song. It’s not a happy song\, per se\,” Starr says. However\, “Azalea” has a distinct streak of optimism near the end\, which Starr says is intentional: “There’s some hope in there\, too. It comes with both Travis and I being fathers. Hold on to your kids as tight as you can without smothering them.” \nThe delicate balance of familial protection also permeates the easygoing “Other Side of the Light\,” a co-write with Levi Lowrey. Written from the perspective of a young boy on an obstacle-filled road trip\, the tune stresses that he’ll find shelter and safety with his mom. In contrast\, the stomping “Hammer and the Nail\,” which Starr wrote with Nelson\, takes another approach to family ties—in this case\, a son who needs to decide if he’s going to give into his wild side and take after his rebellious father. Fittingly\, lively acoustic guitar gives way to an explosive chorus with freewheeling bar-blues piano and raucous electric riffs. \nBe Right Here ends on a confident note\, the organ-driven power ballad\, “Barefoot Angel.” Starr says he doesn’t write many love songs\, but made an exception here. “It’s either me singing about my wife or some guy singing about his wife that’s in the same situation\, which is\, I wouldn’t be able to do anything without her. He began filtering those country sounds into his own music\, mashing them together with the southern boogie of Little Feat\, the electric blues of Freddie King\, the Tex-Mex of Los Lobos\, and the desert rock of Queens Of The Stone Age. Separately\, those influences might have sounded like strange bedfellows. Together\, though\, they formed the bedrock of Sam Morrow’s rootsy rock & roll. \nChampioned by outlets like NPR and Rolling Stone\, Morrow’s first four albums turned him into one of the West Coast’s biggest Americana exports. Just after the band has played the signature intro to “Louisiana Woman\, Mississippi Man\,” Tre Twitty and Tayla Lynn shoot each other a glance that summons the electrifying chemistry of their grandparents: Tre is the grandson of Conway Twitty\, Tayla is the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn.\nAudiences can’t believe their eyes. From that moment\, for the next 90 minutes\, they’re in the presence of living country music history.\n“Fans have told Tayla and me that when they see us onstage singing\, talking\, and just looking at each other\, they think\, ‘Wow\, there must be something genetic in those two families\,’” Tre says. “It validates the experience of the concert for them. We’re telling our grandparents’ story through our story.”\nBut Twitty & Lynn — and their internationally popular show “A Salute to Conway & Loretta” — aren’t impersonators. Tre doesn’t groom Seventies sideburns and perm his hair; Tayla doesn’t mimic her grandmother’s mannerisms. Rather\, they are onstage celebrating country music\, the lost art of duet singing\, and the two beloved icons they refer to as “Poppy” and “Memaw.”\n“I think of us as the ambassadors of the Twitty and Lynn names — we’re just the new version of what they’ve already established\,” Tre says. “But we also want to be caretakers of the past. At our shows\, we get generations of fans because country music is passed down.”\n“It’s about family — the fans’ families and our own\,” Tayla says. “We have so much love and respect for Conway and Loretta and we want to carry this on in such a way that we make our families proud.”\nLoretta herself was impressed. The Country Music Hall of Fame member helped her granddaughter and Tre with their show and had the same time-traveling experience that today’s audiences do while watching them perform. “Memaw just loved it. It brought up so many memories of Conway for her and took her back to a place in her life when they were building their careers. She’d always say that Tre has Conway’s heart\,” says Tayla\, who lives at Lynn’s Tennessee ranch and used to tour with her grandmother\, cuddling up together in the bus’s bedroom to watch old movies while on the road. “We were very close\,” she says.\nTayla first had the idea for the show after witnessing Tre perform Conway’s songs during a concert at the ranch. She approached him about teaming up and\, after a few shows to test the waters\, they embarked on a tour of Canada in 2018.“Even though we didn’t grow up together\, meeting each other wasn’t like meeting strangers\,” Tayla says. “It was like we had always known each other because we had the same experiences.”\nNow together as “Twitty & Lynn” for five years and poised to launch a huge summertime tour\, the duo has cultivated an audience and caught the attention of Nashville along the way. In 2022\, they made their debut on the world-famous Grand Ole Opry\, singing “Louisiana Woman\, Mississippi Man” on the very same circle of wood where Conway and Loretta once stood.\n\nThe duo credits their show’s popularity to the timeless songs of Conway and Loretta — duets like “After the Fire Is Gone” and “You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly” are all in the set\, along with Conway and Loretta solo hits like “Hello\, Darlin’” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” But they’re also giving audiences a chance to relive a moment in time that ended far too soon: Conway and Loretta stopped touring together full-time in 1981\, and Conway died in 1993. “Conway has been gone30 years\,” Tre says. “Had Poppy lived\, I think there would have been a great second act for him and Loretta. There’s a lot of people that wanted to see that\, and we’re able to let them hear those songs and stories again.”\nTre and Tayla are busy forging their own artistic identities too. The duo has an album of originals (and a few covers) on the way. With Tayla as chief songwriter\, she and Tre have written songs for the project with Jeffrey Steele\, Mark Narmore\, Shelly Fairchild\, and their producer Scott Baggett. “We’re at a great time in country music and Americana\, where artists like Miranda Lambert\, Margo Price\, and all these funky country singers are embracing the Seventies style of Conway and Loretta. So when I’m writing\, I’m drawn to that\,” Tayla says. “We’re in a prime time to be doing our type of music.”\nThe pair also released a smoldering cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” in 2022\, with a haunting music video filmed on the New Jersey shore\, and cut a version of Conway and Loretta’s “Feelins’” — recorded the day after Loretta died last year. The raw emotion in the song is palpable. “It wasn’t planned out\,” Tre says. “We were going into the studio to record our original tracks and Memaw had died the day before. So we said\, ‘Let’s do one of her songs with Conway.’ There was this emotion in the room that we just couldn’t ignore.”\nHonest emotion\, along with Tre and Tayla’s innate chemistry\, is what defines their onstage performances. Whether they’re singing to each other or interacting with the audience\, there’s an easygoing authenticity that comes across. Tayla even talks to the crowd about her sobriety\, sharing a personal tale of struggle and redemption.\nIn the end\, though\, their goal is to entertain while\, at the same time\, honoring their grandparents. DESCRIPTION:FireHouse has been rockin’ for over a decade. Their music has taken them allover the world and has produced Gold\, Platinum and Multi-Platinum records in the United States and countries abroad. In 1990\, their first album\, entitled FireHouse\, was released. The band’s first single\, Shake & Tumble\, had impressive radio success. \n  \nThe band then released Don’t Treat Me Bad\, which became their first Top Ten hit. This was followed by Love of a Lifetime\, which also entered the Top Ten\, reaching the #3 spot on the United States charts. This string of hits vaulted their first album to double platinum status in the United States; also going gold in Canada\, Japan and Singapore. At the 1991 American Music Awards\, FireHouse found themselves standing before the nation accepting the award f or Best New Hard Rock/Metal Band\, chosen over Nirvana and Alice in Chains. \n  \nThe band’s second album\, Hold Your Fire\, was released in 1992. It produced the hits Reach for the Sky and Sleeping with You. Another Top Ten hit\, When I Look into Your Eyes\, peaked on the United States chart sat #5. This album earned the band two more gold albums and over 1 million sales worldwide. In 1995\, FireHouse released their third album on Epic\, simply titled3. Once again\, FireHouse produced another Top Forty hit in the United States with I Live My Life For You. \n  \nIt was with this album that FireHouse made their first trip to Southeast Asia for a promotional tour. Earlier American hits like Don’t Treat Me Bad\, Love of a Lifetime and W hen I Look into Your Eyes had climbed the charts in Asia. Here for You\, the second single from3\, had also become a hit. The band then continued their promotional tour in South American countries such as Brazil and Argentina. Their fourth album\, Good Acoustics\, was released in 1996 and quickly went gold in Malaysia\, Thailand\, and Philippines. \n  \nGood Acoustics contains unplugged versions of the group’s greatest hits\, as well as four new songs. This album produced foreign hits such as In Your Perfect World\, Love Don’t Care and You Are My Religion. The band returned to Southeast Asia for another promotional tour at the end of 1996. Then\, in February 1997\, FireHouse embarked on their first concert tour of Southeast Asia playing sold out shows for fans in Indonesia\, Singapore\, Thailand\, and Japan. During May and June they toured the United States before returning to Southeast Asia in July for an unprecedented twenty-five city sold out tour of Indonesia. \nIn 1998\, FireHouse toured the United States on the Rock Never Stops tour\, which also included Slaughter\, Warrant\, Quiet Riot\, and LA Guns. October of1998 featured the Asian release of FireHouse’s fifth CD\, Category 5on Pony Canyon Records. The album quickly climbed to #4 on the Japanese charts\, and supporting promotional tour of Japan followed. Category 5 was officially released in the United States in 1999. \n  \nFireHouse continued touring through the winter and spring of 1999\, including3 more sold out shows in Tokyo\, Nagoya\, and Osaka. On April 22\, 1999\, the band recorded their live show in Osaka. The result – the first ever live album by FireHouse. Bring ‘em Out Live was released in Japan in December 1999and in the United States on Spitfire Records in July 2000.The turn of the century brought the release their seventh album\, titledO2. It has been released in SE Asia on Pony Canyon Records\, and in the US on Spitfire Records. This album had notable success despite the changing style of popular rock music. \n  \nDuring this time\, the band decided to part ways with original bass player\, Perry Richardson. O2’s remarkable bass playing was supplied by Bruce Waibel. Bruce brought to the band his phenomenal bass playing along with is equally impressive sense of humor. We truly regret to say that in September 2003\, Bruce has passed away. He will be greatly missed as a friend and talented musician. FireHouse headed back into the studio in early 2003 to write and record their8thalbum\,PRIME TIME. As music changes over time\, FireHouse continues to evolve their musical style; yet\, at the same time\, hang onto their hard rock roots. Released in October of 2003\, album number 8 is no exception.
