DESCRIPTION:Chasiti Murphy\, John Kunze and the Steve Hussey Band are bringing BOOMING country music entertainment to the Mid-Ohio Valley! Our Baby Boomer generation is reaching the age when they are beginning to find themselves in need of senior services. Proceeds from this event will assist the O’Neill Center in continuing to provide valuable seniors services in our community! \n  \nPerformers: \n \nChasiti Murphy\, 19 years old and a 2017 graduate from Waterford\, Ohio. Chasiti has been singing since she was able to talk and has continued to follow her love for music throughout her whole life! She has been in several talent shows\, choir concerts and anything associated with music! She is currently a child care provider at Sandhill Childcare in Reno\, Ohio and plans to go to college to get a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education to become a Kindergarten teacher. “Although\, no matter what I pursue in life…music and singing will always be a part of me\, wherever life takes me\,” says Chasiti! \n  \n \nJohn Kunze\, a local country music singer/songwriter originally from Parkersburg\, WV and currently living in Belpre\, Ohio. John is the 2016 West Virginia/Ohio State winner of the local and state rounds of the country’s largest country music competition\, the Country Showdown. His musical influence comes from his love of the outdoors\, hard work\, friends and family. John’s favorite part of playing music is meeting new people\, which he considers friends and listening to their stories and experience. \nJohn is also a new Nashville recording artist with plans to release his first CD into the national country music market in 2018. \n  \n \nThe Steve Hussey Band\, a singer/songwriter and producer from Washington\, West Virginia. Steve has been playing professionally for almost 20 years in various bands including Stuck on Amber\, The Steve Hussey Band\, and Luvbox. He has entertained clubs\, fairs and festivals\, and private parties all over the east coast. \nHe bought a Yamaha FG acoustic guitar and an Eagles book of chords when he was 19. The rest\, as they say\, is history. SUMMARY:The Romeros
DESCRIPTION:Known to millions as “The Royal Family of the Guitar\,” the Romeros were founded by the legendary Celedonio Romero with his sons Celin\, Pepe and Angel in 1958. The Quartet went through natural transformations\, and today consists of the second (Celin & Pepe) and third generations (Lito & Celino). To have so many virtuosi of the same instrument in one family is unique in the world of musical performance\, and in the realm of the classical guitar it is absolutely without precedent. With a 55-year plus history\, The Romeros have built an enviable discography and their achievements have not gone unnoticed. In February of 2007\, The Romeros were granted The Recording Academy’s President’s Merit Award from the Grammys in honor of their artistic achievements.

Perhaps most impressively\, Clint wrote or co-wrote every one of his more than three dozen chart hits\, including “A Better Man\,” “Where Are You Now\,” “When My Ship Comes In\,” “A Good Run of Bad Luck\,” “Summer’s Comin’\,” “Like the Rain” and “Nothin’ But the Taillights\,” part of a catalog that produced 22 #1 singles and made him one of the most successful singer/songwriters of the modern era. \nAlong the way\, Clint has sold over 20 million records\, earned more than a dozen gold and platinum awards in the U.S. and Canada\, landed nearly two dozen major awards and nominations\, including more than a dozen Grammy nominations\, and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. \n \nAbout Sienna Stocky\nSienna Stocky is a young and talented singer songwriter with a distinctive voice that will quickly capture your heart.  Sienna’s music is in the alternative vein and her lyrics are well beyond her nineteen years.  Her music hints of Celtic influences but with a youthful American edge.  Sienna has recorded her own material at MovieSound Studios with Emmy Award-winning producer/composer David Traugh.  Her first CD\, “Intertwined” is now available on iTunes or at siennasongs.com.  Sienna will also be appearing on the PBS show “Songs at the Center” which will air in May\, 2018 on 146 stations in 25 states. \nSienna first sang on stage at a small music festival in the hills of southeast Ohio when she was just four years old.  At the age of nine\, she was singing in front of thousands at campaign stops for Vice President Joe Biden. \nSeveral years of traditional piano lessons helped provide a good musical foundation but Sienna always felt confined by the written score and began to compose her own melodies.  Despite this\, she was hesitant to pair up her original piano pieces with lyrics.  She explains\, “One day I was playing a piece I had written when my dad convinced me to just hum along with it”.  Within three months Sienna was writing her own songs with both words and music.  Sienna is now accompanying herself on both piano and guitar and has become a prolific songwriter. Sienna has made a deliberate effort not to emulate other artists and has developed a sound and style which is compelling\, recognizable\, and all her own.

It’s pretty simple: Bring awareness to the variety of high quality music in Ohio and West Virginia\, empowering local musicians to see even more value in their craft\, while empowering our community to know they hold as much value as major musical meccas. It all starts with believing in yourself: to build a scene\, to build a community\, and to build a movement. \nWe’re moving toward a stronger sense of pride with Undercurrent Festival. We’re doing things a little differently around here-starting from our back yard and moving outward\, creating a scene that shows we’re worth paying attention to. Created by Danny Lapidus and Francisco Cotto\, these lifelong friends from New York City have combined their talents to bring an innovative\, energetic and interactive musical style on stage. Incorporating 5 languages (English\, Spanish\, French\, Korean and Hebrew) into their performances\, Hot Peas ‘N Butter uses elements of traditional Latin music\, Afro-Caribbean rhythms\, jazz\, folk\, and rock\, bringing fans to their feet. With hit videos like “Number 1” and “Deep Down” being featured on Nickelodeon and Noggin\, Hot Peas ‘N Butter are quickly becoming a family favorite! Not surprisingly\, it was an instant hit with St. Jude\, and even spawned a Trike-A-Thon launch in Puerto Rico\, using “Different Spokes for Different Folks.” as its theme song. The original video airs regularly on Nick Jr. /Nickelodeon TV and is also featured on the official Trike-A-Thon DVD. ”Different Spokes for Different Folks” held the number 1 spot for several weeks on Sirius Radio’s “Kids Stuff\,” and continues to reside in the top 100 songs overall on Sirius.

DESCRIPTION:Long before Americana music had a name\, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band helped lead the charge\, mixing elements of country\, bluegrass\, folk\, mountain music\, and rock & roll into a sound that celebrated the full range of American music. Released in 1972 – just six years after the group formed in Southern California – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s Will the Circle Be Unbroken still stands as one of the most beloved albums in the country catalog\, pairing the young band with legends like Roy Acuff\, Doc Watson\, Earl Scruggs\, and Mother Maybelle Carter. \n \nMany decades have passed since that milestone album’s release\, with the members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band now enjoying their own legendary status. They continue to blur lines between genres\, however\, and Circlin’ Back accomplishes something very similar to the classic Will the Circle Be Unbroken\, pairing the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with the hit-makers\, rule-breakers\, and iconic figures of today’s roots music community. This time\, Hanna\, Fadden\, and Carpenter are the elder statesmen\, passing down their influence and inspiration to a younger class without giving up the torch just yet. An instructor in the art department at Marietta College\, Beth shows her work in art shows and galleries throughout the United States. Previous to her work as a fine artist\, Beth spent 25 years as a fabric and clothing designer. Su remains grateful for the many opportunities she receives to share her talents with the Mid-Ohio Valley. \nDavid Rexroad\, a Parkersburg native\, thrilled audiences in the off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks and called Manhattan his home for 40 years. He did perform in many fund raising efforts in Wood County for the Blennerhassett Drama Association and the YMCA\, FRIENDS OF YOUTH musical revues at the Smoot Theatre and is an instructor at Camp Vaudeville teaching local youth performers all he knows about performance. He now resides in Parkersburg and is an actor and director at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. David is passionate about theatre and about being a mountaineer. \nAmanda DeBarr Stevens is a graduate of PHS\, and WVU-P and the proud mother of two daughters. Mandy began entertaining audiences very young as a charter member of Young Artists International\, and continues to perform in local theater at the Actors Guild. In addition to her Administrative work at Artsbridge\, she is also a catalog artist for them. With her rich theatre background\, she brings characters to life through her joy for singing and honesty. She is a member of the singing group\, “ ShhhBang” and performs with the dance band\, MIXX. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nR.J. Lowe began his life in theater 31 years ago in “The King & I” at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. Since then he has performed in over 50 shows at the Guild\, as well as and professionally (“Nunsense A-Men!\,” “Two By Two\,” “Grease!\,” “Lend Me a Tenor\,” “It’s a Wonderful Life\,” “A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum\,” and more) R.J. He is the proud recipient of the AACT Best Actor Award and several OCTA Outstanding awards for his portrayal of Alvin Kelby in “The Story of My Life.” He has also won many other OCTA awards and three MOVP Khalil Awards (actor/director – “Nunsense A-Men!” and actor – “…Charlie Brown”).  A Vienna native\, R.J. is a 1998 graduate of NYC’s The American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

DESCRIPTION:Presented with support from Tenney & Associates.  \nWith Special Guest Micah Kesselring \nRobert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues\, soul and R&B for the past four decades\, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed albums. For his latest project\, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm (April 28 / Jay-Vee Records)\, the Blues Hall of Famer traveled to Memphis with his friend\, renowned Grammy Award winning producer Steve Jordan\, to make a classic soul album with Hi Rhythm\, the band that helped create that sound. \nCray’s signature blend of rhythm and blues\, pop\, rock\, soul\, and traditional blues have made him a standout\, prompting Guitar Player Magazine to declare: “Cray is not only making great music\, he’s making history.” \nhttps://youtu.be/BY5qiL0NJpU \nHis Grammy-winning 1986 album Strong Persuader made Cray a leader of the ’80s blues resurgence alongside Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds\, and propelled hits “Smoking Gun” and “Right Next Door (Because of Me)” onto the charts the year of its release. He followed that success with his next Grammy winner\, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1988)\, which featured the hit single of the same name. \n \nRobert Cray has lead a celebrated career as a blues musician. In the 1978 film National Lampoon’s Animal House\, Cray was the uncredited bassist in the house party band Otis Day and the Knights. In 1992\, Cray was invited to play at the “Guitar Legends” concerts in Seville\, Spain where he played a signature track\, “Phone Booth”. He supported Eric Clapton on his 2006-2007 world tour\, even performing with Clapton on backup guitar for the Cream song “Crossroads”. \nMicah Kesselring\nMicah Kesselring\, 23\, has performed blues music since he was 14 years old. Raised in the Appalachia foothills of southeastern Ohio\, Kesselring quickly made his way onto the Columbus blues music scene after playing smaller hometown shows\, and became acquainted with the Columbus Blues Alliance. He soon made his way down to Memphis\, TN for the International Blues Challenge\, representing the Columbus Blues Alliance in the Youth Showcase category. Following a performance at the Blues City Cafe on Beale Street\, he was awarded the inaugural Generation Blues scholarship at the age of 15 to the Centrum Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival & Workshop in Port Townsend\, Washington\, which was presented to him by Cassie Taylor at the IBC band finals. Micah later went on to perform as a special guest with the Otis Taylor Band at the Blues Music Awards in May of 2009\, and performed at numerous festivals\, including the Heritage Music Bluesfest in Wheeling\, West Virginia\, the Traditional Acoustic Blues Festival in Worthington\, Ohio\, the Grey Skies Blues Fest in Tacoma\, Washington\, Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival in Gahanna\, Ohio and the Big Bend Blues Bash in Pomeroy\, Ohio\, throughout the next couple of years. DESCRIPTION:See\, hear and experience silent film just as it would have been presented in our historic theatre in the 1920s! \nJoin us for a family–friendly evening of music and film with Fox Theatre organist Dave Calendine\, presented in conjunction with the 42nd Annual Mid-Am Band Organ Rally hosted by American Flags & Poles. \nThe night will open with an audience sing-along of “Music of the Mouse: Music from the Walt Disney Songbook\,” featuring favorite tunes from classic Disney movies and cartoons. \nThen the program will step back in time for the Buster Keaton silent film comedy\, The Balloonatic\, with live accompaniment provided on the organ by Calendine. \nDave Calendine\nDave Calendine\, a Warren\, Ohio native\, started his musical career with the player piano at the age of 3.  By age 5\, he was playing some of the music without the aid of the player mechanism.  By age 7\, he was playing at his church\, where he also started to teach himself the organ at age 15. \nWhen at age 16\, Dave first heard the magnificent sound of the theatre organ\, he was instantly hooked and determined to play the theatre organ at whatever the cost.  His wish came true when\, one night after a movie\, the management of the Akron Civic Theatre let him play.  Shortly after that\, he was hired as one of the house organist at the 2\,678-seat movie palace.  The youngest person to ever hold the position\, he entertained audiences there for over 3 years. \nAfter leaving the Akron Civic Theatre\, he continued on\, playing at several restaurants featuring theatre pipe organs\, such as the Organ Grinder (Toronto\, Canada)\, and Shady Nook (Cincinnati\, Ohio).  Dave has also played several theatre pipe organs throughout the United States and Canada. \nIn 2000\, he went on his first overseas solo concert tour through Germany and Switzerland\, playing to packed houses. \nDave currently holds the position of Resident Organist and organ curator for Detroit’s fabulous Fox Theatre\, holding that position for 25 years now.  He has also played nine years for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular\, featuring the world-famous Rockettes. \nDave’s enthusiasm for the theatre and theatre pipe organ has him serving on the Board of Directors and Corporate Secretary for the American Theatre Organ Society.  He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the Motor City Theatre Organ Society\, which owns and operates the Redford Theatre in Detroit.  He is also on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Detroit Theatre Organ Society\, which owns and operates the Senate Theatre.  He was also the President of the Flint Theatre Organ Club\, an auxiliary support group for the Flint Institute of Music. \nDave’s love of mechanical musical instruments also has him actively involved with the Musical Box Society\, International (MBSI).  He is currently Chairman of the Mid-America Chapter of MBSI\, and past secretary of the Lake Michigan Chapter of MBSI.  His work with mechanical instruments has garnered him various awards\, including being honored by the Governor of the State of Montana for his work on restoring the Bovey Collection of Mechanical Instruments\, one of the largest public displays of mechanical music in the United States of America.  His achievements there were also recognized in an Achievement Award by President George W. Bush. \nFor his regular employment\, Dave works in the Operations Department of Olympia Entertainment\, one of the nation’s premier presenters of sports and live entertainment\, operating several venues in Detroit\, including the Fox Theatre\, City Theatre\, Hockeytown Café\, Joe Louis Arena (current home of the 11-time Stanley Cup-winning Detroit Red Wings) and Comerica Park (home of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers). Opening in September of 2017 will be the new Little Caesars Arena\, which will be home to both the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons. \nIn the fall of 2007\, Dave was honored by being inducted into the Achievement Hall of Fame at his high school\, Champion High School\, in Warren\, Ohio.   The first person to be inducted for the performing arts\, he was nominated by several of his former teachers. \nDave is organist at his church\, Southminster Presbyterian Church in Taylor\, Michigan. \nCurrently 45 years old\, Dave resides in Detroit\, Michigan.

DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed alt-rock bands Soul Asylum and Cracker are performing a double headline concert at the historic Peoples Bank Theatre! \nSoul Asylum\nFormed in Minneapolis in 1981\, Grammy Award-winning band Soul Asylum’s raucous live sets and early releases on the hometown indie label Twin/Tone — including the albums Say What You Will\, Made to Be Broken and While You Were Out — earned it a loyal fan base and widespread critical acclaim. \nSoul Asylum’s indie success led to the band entering the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time and its 1990 follow-up And the Horse They Rode In On\, and achieving a platinum-level commercial breakthrough with 1992’s Grave Dancers Union and 1995’s Let Your Dim Light Shine. Grave Dancers Union featured the international hits “Runaway Train\,” which won a 1994 Grammy as Best Rock Song\, and “Black Gold\,” while Let Your Dim Light Shine spawned the hit “Misery.” \nCracker\nChart-topping band Cracker has been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock\, Americana\, and insurgent-country. Musically\, these two regions couldn’t be further apart from one another. DESCRIPTION:The Peoples Bank Theatre will come alive with the The Marietta College Spring Band Concert on Tuesday\, April 25th at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will feature Matters of the Heart. The music in the performance will deal with the various emotions that individuals experience during a lifetime.  Joy\, sadness\, shock\, contemplation\, laughter\, happiness and many more will be explored during this concert event. \nThere will a world premiere of I Carry Your Heart With Me by Marietta College music theory/composition professor Dr. Andrew Francis.  This composition is based on a poem by E. E. Cummings and will feature Dr. Amy Yekel\, dramatic soprano\, with the Marietta College Wind Ensemble. \nOther special guests will include Dr. Bill Ruud\, Marietta College President\, as he joins the Marietta College Symphonic Band.  Dr. Ruud was a high school clarinetist and will be adding his musical talents to two compositions being performed by the Symphonic Band. \nThe concert is open to the public and free of charge.  Seats are on a first come\, first serve basis.  The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. event.

In October 2015\, Bob Thompson was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.\nBob makes his home in Charleston\, West Virginia\, and has enjoyed a long and active career as a performer\, composer\, arranger\, and educator. For decades he has played at festivals and venues around the country\, and has also taken his music to Europe\, Africa\, and South America.\nBob Thompson’s resume includes guest appearances on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz\, on National Public Radio\, and BET on Jazz with Ramsey Lewis. His recordings on Intima Records\, and Ichiban International\, received high recognition on the jazz charts\, with several reaching the top-ten. Burge\, has played everything from Alternative Rock (63 Eyes\, The Larries) to Contemporary Folk\, performing concerts at festivals and in venues as diverse as CBGB’s & Joe’s Public Theatre in NYC\, The Country Music Hall of Fame\, The Kennedy Center\, and of course\, literally hundreds of clubs including the obscure\, to the world famous Caffe Lena\, Club Passim and Music City Roots. He has been a repeat guest on NPR’s Mountain Stage and has been called the “West Virginia’s premier songwriter”\, by its host\, Larry Groce. In 2014\, Burge wrote 13 songs for a musical adaptation of Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare. Burge\, who might be known by many for his method of writing songs from the perspective of odd characters\, humans\, bugs and animals (listen to Building Characters produced by Don Dixon of R.E.M fame) released an album of very personal songs in 2015 entitled Imitation Life. The recording was produced by long term collaborator and two time Grammy winner\, Tim O’Brien. The album includes his original song\, Change (For Clean Water) which features Kathy Mattea on backing vocals. In 2016 Burge released “Live at Mountain Stage 2006-2015”. The 17 track CD features his many performances from the popular NPR radio show and podcast. It also captures the essence of his live energy and\, at times hilarious storytelling. Burge resides in Parkersburg WV with his wife Lisa and their children\, Will and Sophia. \nERIC GNEZDA\nwww.gnezda.com\nEric Gnezda is the creator and host of the American Public Television series\, Songs at the Center\, broadcast on 150 stations nationwide. The series features accomplished singer-songwriters performing “in the round” before a live audience. The weekly\, half-hour program showcases three-to-four artists\, and includes interviews and short features. \nAn award-winning songwriter and Emmy-nominated television journalist\, Eric and his work have been featured on media around the world. He is a recipient of the Ohioana Citation for Music Composition\, joining Michael Feinstein (American Songbook)\, Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane)\, and Chip Davis (Mannheim Steamroller). \nAlso a keynote speaker and memoirist\, Eric performs for audiences across the country\, from convention centers\, to concert halls\, to small clubs\, including regular appearances at Nashville’s iconic venue for songwriters\, The Bluebird Café. The two-hour radio show is produced in West Virginia and distributed by National Public Radio weekly on more than 150 stations across America and around the world via NPR Music and mountainstage.org. The show\, which is recorded before a live audience\, features performances by seasoned legends and emerging stars in genres ranging from folk\, blues and country to indie rock\, synth pop\, world and alternative music\, and beyond. \nSinger/songwriter Larry Groce serves as the show’s host\, artistic director and co-producer. The Mountain Stage house band includes jazz pianist Bob Thompson\, vocalist Julie Adams\, bass player Steve Hill\, drummer Ammed Solomon and guitarists Michael Lipton and Ryan Kennedy. The band is directed by Ron Sowell. \nPeoples Bank Theatre and Mountain Stage with Larry Groce are excited to announce four of the guests for the radio show’s first appearance in the Pioneer City on April 9: John Németh & The Blue Dreamers\, Edward David Anderson\, Shemekia Copeland\, Bridget Kearney\, and The T Sisters. \nJohn Németh \nJohn Németh had already established himself among the very top ranks of blues musicians and modern soul singers when he decided to break the mold with his new record\, FEELIN’ FREAKY. Németh fearlessly crushes all barriers of style and genre with an album of original songs that defies all the usual pigeonholes. Drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B\, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll\, John creates music that is personal as well as universal\, and owes its origin to no one but John Németh. John’s songs are groove and melody-driven\, laced with thoughtful lyrics and nuanced humor\, and cover themes from social issues of gun violence and class values to the pure hedonistic joy of dancing\, sexuality and marijuana. He creates his songs from melodies and phrases he draws from the sounds of life\, from early-morning Memphis songbirds to the din of the city. For this album John brought his new songs to his great touring band\, the Blue Dreamers – Danny Banks on drums\, Matthew Wilson on bass and guitar\, and Johnny Rhodes on guitar. \nEdward David Anderson \nEdward David Anderson is one of music’s modern makers\, a rock & roll veteran who spent his formative years fronting the revered Midwest band\, Backyard Tire Fire. Known for infectious melodies and memorable messages Anderson penned 8 albums for the band and played countless shows across the US and Canada. Their eventual hiatus fostered his solo debut\, Lies & Wishes (2014\, Royal Potato Family) working with friend and Grammy winning producer Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.  A serendipitous move south in 2013 introduced him to ‘Lower Alabama’ where he found the culture and beaches provided reprieve from life on the road and a second home. He quickly immersed himself into the rich and welcoming LA music scene where he met producer Anthony Crawford (Neil Young\, Willie Sugarcapps) and recorded Lower Alabama: The Loxley Sessions over the winter of 2014. The album floats melodiously on rivers of fiddle and clouds of pedal steel\, on gentle acoustic guitars and hints of piano\, dusted with some ghostly guitar from Will Kimbrough and striking vocal harmony by Crawford’s wife\, singer Savana Lee. The nine-song collection steps firmly into the Americana world and was hailed “A wonderfully soulful record” by David Dye (NPR’s World Cafe) and “A simply infectious album” by No Depression. \nShemekia Copeland \nWhether she’s belting out a raucous blues-rocker\, firing up a blistering soul-shouter\, bringing the spirit to a gospel-fueled R&B rave-up or digging deep down into a subtle\, country-tinged ballad\, Shemekia Copeland sounds like no one else. This month\, Shemekia was nominated as the 38th Annual Blues Music Award’s Contemporary Blues Female Artist. Shemekia won that same category in 2016 after the release of Outskirts of Love. Her acclaimed eighth album\, released by Alligator Records in September 2015\, was also nominated for a Grammy Award. \nThe Chicago Tribune says Copeland delivers “gale force singing and power” with a “unique\, gutsy style\, vibrant emotional palette and intuitive grasp of the music.” NPR Music calls her “fiercely expressive.” She has sung with Eric Clapton\, Bonnie Raitt\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Mick Jagger\, Keith Richards\, Carlos Santana\, James Cotton and opened for The Rolling Stones. \nBridget Kearney \nOver the past 12 years\, Bridget Kearney has toured the world as the bassist of the soul pop sensation Lake Street Dive. An incredibly versatile musician\, Kearney has always been voraciously collaborative\, dabbling in chamber pop with the Brooklyn group Cuddle Magic\, bluegrass with the now defunct Boston outfit Joy Kills Sorrow\, and Ghanian music as part of a duo with fellow songwriter Benjamin Lazar Davis. A past winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, this year Kearney steps into the spotlight with her first solo effort\, a wry\, big-hearted pop album titled Won’t Let You Down\, scheduled for release in March. \nT Sisters \nThe T Sisters\, born and raised in California and now based in the creative hub of Oakland\, embody harmony. It’s in their blood\, bones\, and history. Erika\, Rachel and Chloe have been singing and writing music together since childhood. Their sound represents a continuum of music\, from traditional to pop influences\, moments of breathtaking a cappella to swells of energetic indie Americana. The T Sisters have appeared at Merlefest\, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Music City Roots\, and Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion\, among others. \nStay tuned as more artists will be announced in the coming weeks. The First World War stands as a forgotten time in American history. On Founders Day in Marietta\, Ohio\, The Castle Historic House Museum’s event “Lest We Forget” will remember Washington County’s involvement in this conflict with an evening of WWI era music. This one-night-only concert features talented regional musicians and renowned speakers at the historic Peoples Bank Theatre in the heart of downtown Marietta. Musical renditions by Marietta College Concert Choir & Wind Ensemble\, The Wayfarers\, Barefoot McCoy\, Square Thirteen\, Dan Heidt\, Anthony Mossburg\, and Shawna Corder. Anyone interested in songwriting is welcome to attend. \nSome of Ohio’s best professional songwriters and music teachers will conduct sessions for songwriters\, educators\, therapists\, and students (high school through college and beyond). Todd has performed his original music at hundreds of venues including local stages\, and the Kennedy Center\, NPR’s Mountain Stage\, and The Country Music Hall of Fame. Todd has performed and toured with a long list of national entertainers and has coordinated songwriting workshops for the Mountain Stage New Song Festival. He is also a consummate teacher of songwriting\, from K-12\, to advanced songwriters. \nTodd’s Workshop: “How I Write One Song Every Day!”\nTodd will discuss the various methods he uses bring on the “muse” on a daily basis. He will also share with you why he feels creativity is endless. \nEric Gnezda\, MFA\, is creator\, host and producer of the national TV show\, Songs at the Center. An award-winning songwriter\, Eric is a regular performer at Nashville’s Bluebird Café. Eric has seen success with a wide range of styles – from comedic to inspirational songs. He and his work have been featured on radio and television around the world. Also\, a public speaker and Emmy-nominated TV journalist\, Eric has appeared before countless corporate clients across America. Away from the stage\, he is a lecturer at Ohio Wesleyan University. Eric’s workshop is called\, “How to Write Comedic Songs and Parodies”. \nRon Sowell is best known for his role as the musical director for the internationally acclaimed radio show Mountain Stage. Ron Sowell is also a dynamic singer and performer\, accomplished guitar and harmonica player\, award winning songwriter and critically acclaimed producer. He has recorded four albums with West Virginia based bands – the Putnam County Pickers and Stark Raven. He has toured extensively across the United States and to Greenland\, Europe\, the Mediterranean and Africa. In addition\, he has recorded three solo CD’s of original music including his latest release” Little Movies”. \nRon’s Workshop: Cooking Up a Song from Scratch\nThe best way to learn to write a song is by doing it! Ron will talk about choosing a subject and a musical style\, deciding on tempo and picking a major or minor key to fit the emotion. He will then lead the class through the simple formula he has devised over the years at going from nothing\, to having a completed song! \nThe emphasis will be on spontaneity\, having fun\, and creating a safe space to offer ideas. Team work and respecting each other’s ideas will be encouraged. At the end of the day participants will have a creative process that they can take home and duplicate in other settings. \nGene Castelli\, Co-coordinator\, Nashville Songwriters Association International\, Columbus Chapter. A veteran songwriter\, Gene has taught the craft for more than a decade to songwriters of all levels. \nGene’s Workshop: From Idea to I Did It!\n“I’ve put together a list of the most common things about songwriting\, like\, hook\, chorus\, bridge\, pre-chorus\, etc. I will walk my class through the terminology and what it means\, and then have fun with them putting a song together. At the end we will all be putting our names on it as a co-writer!” \nJim Shaw\, MA\, is a music educator of 35 years in both public and private schools\, K-12. A composer and touring musician\, Jim is a faculty member in music education at Ashland University\, where he teaches primarily education and nursing students on techniques of bringing music into the classroom. He is the composer of a multitude of songs that are used in elementary schools (songs) through high school (band and orchestra)\, and continues to write in all mediums. \nSCHEDULE: \n9:30-10AM – Registration – Sign release form as workshops will be recorded** \nAlthough the first two workshops are geared toward educators and musical therapist\, anyone is welcome to attend. All workshops are open to everyone. You do not have to be a songwriter\, but you will certainly end up becoming one before you leave!
