DESCRIPTION:Presented with support from Tenney & Associates.  \nWith Special Guest Micah Kesselring \nRobert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues\, soul and R&B for the past four decades\, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed albums. For his latest project\, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm (April 28 / Jay-Vee Records)\, the Blues Hall of Famer traveled to Memphis with his friend\, renowned Grammy Award winning producer Steve Jordan\, to make a classic soul album with Hi Rhythm\, the band that helped create that sound. \nCray’s signature blend of rhythm and blues\, pop\, rock\, soul\, and traditional blues have made him a standout\, prompting Guitar Player Magazine to declare: “Cray is not only making great music\, he’s making history.” \nhttps://youtu.be/BY5qiL0NJpU \nHis Grammy-winning 1986 album Strong Persuader made Cray a leader of the ’80s blues resurgence alongside Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds\, and propelled hits “Smoking Gun” and “Right Next Door (Because of Me)” onto the charts the year of its release. He followed that success with his next Grammy winner\, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1988)\, which featured the hit single of the same name. \n \nRobert Cray has lead a celebrated career as a blues musician. In the 1978 film National Lampoon’s Animal House\, Cray was the uncredited bassist in the house party band Otis Day and the Knights. In 1992\, Cray was invited to play at the “Guitar Legends” concerts in Seville\, Spain where he played a signature track\, “Phone Booth”. He supported Eric Clapton on his 2006-2007 world tour\, even performing with Clapton on backup guitar for the Cream song “Crossroads”. \nMicah Kesselring\nMicah Kesselring\, 23\, has performed blues music since he was 14 years old. Raised in the Appalachia foothills of southeastern Ohio\, Kesselring quickly made his way onto the Columbus blues music scene after playing smaller hometown shows\, and became acquainted with the Columbus Blues Alliance. He soon made his way down to Memphis\, TN for the International Blues Challenge\, representing the Columbus Blues Alliance in the Youth Showcase category. Following a performance at the Blues City Cafe on Beale Street\, he was awarded the inaugural Generation Blues scholarship at the age of 15 to the Centrum Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival & Workshop in Port Townsend\, Washington\, which was presented to him by Cassie Taylor at the IBC band finals. Micah later went on to perform as a special guest with the Otis Taylor Band at the Blues Music Awards in May of 2009\, and performed at numerous festivals\, including the Heritage Music Bluesfest in Wheeling\, West Virginia\, the Traditional Acoustic Blues Festival in Worthington\, Ohio\, the Grey Skies Blues Fest in Tacoma\, Washington\, Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival in Gahanna\, Ohio and the Big Bend Blues Bash in Pomeroy\, Ohio\, throughout the next couple of years. SUMMARY:Theatre Organ Concert feat. Dave Calendine
DESCRIPTION:See\, hear and experience silent film just as it would have been presented in our historic theatre in the 1920s! \nJoin us for a family–friendly evening of music and film with Fox Theatre organist Dave Calendine\, presented in conjunction with the 42nd Annual Mid-Am Band Organ Rally hosted by American Flags & Poles. \nThe night will open with an audience sing-along of “Music of the Mouse: Music from the Walt Disney Songbook\,” featuring favorite tunes from classic Disney movies and cartoons. \nThen the program will step back in time for the Buster Keaton silent film comedy\, The Balloonatic\, with live accompaniment provided on the organ by Calendine. \nDave Calendine\nDave Calendine\, a Warren\, Ohio native\, started his musical career with the player piano at the age of 3.  By age 5\, he was playing some of the music without the aid of the player mechanism.  By age 7\, he was playing at his church\, where he also started to teach himself the organ at age 15. \nWhen at age 16\, Dave first heard the magnificent sound of the theatre organ\, he was instantly hooked and determined to play the theatre organ at whatever the cost.  His wish came true when\, one night after a movie\, the management of the Akron Civic Theatre let him play.  Shortly after that\, he was hired as one of the house organist at the 2\,678-seat movie palace.  The youngest person to ever hold the position\, he entertained audiences there for over 3 years. \nAfter leaving the Akron Civic Theatre\, he continued on\, playing at several restaurants featuring theatre pipe organs\, such as the Organ Grinder (Toronto\, Canada)\, and Shady Nook (Cincinnati\, Ohio).  Dave has also played several theatre pipe organs throughout the United States and Canada. \nIn 2000\, he went on his first overseas solo concert tour through Germany and Switzerland\, playing to packed houses. \nDave currently holds the position of Resident Organist and organ curator for Detroit’s fabulous Fox Theatre\, holding that position for 25 years now.  He has also played nine years for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular\, featuring the world-famous Rockettes. \nDave’s enthusiasm for the theatre and theatre pipe organ has him serving on the Board of Directors and Corporate Secretary for the American Theatre Organ Society.  He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the Motor City Theatre Organ Society\, which owns and operates the Redford Theatre in Detroit.  He is also on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Detroit Theatre Organ Society\, which owns and operates the Senate Theatre.  He was also the President of the Flint Theatre Organ Club\, an auxiliary support group for the Flint Institute of Music. \nDave’s love of mechanical musical instruments also has him actively involved with the Musical Box Society\, International (MBSI).  He is currently Chairman of the Mid-America Chapter of MBSI\, and past secretary of the Lake Michigan Chapter of MBSI.  His work with mechanical instruments has garnered him various awards\, including being honored by the Governor of the State of Montana for his work on restoring the Bovey Collection of Mechanical Instruments\, one of the largest public displays of mechanical music in the United States of America.  His achievements there were also recognized in an Achievement Award by President George W. Bush. \nFor his regular employment\, Dave works in the Operations Department of Olympia Entertainment\, one of the nation’s premier presenters of sports and live entertainment\, operating several venues in Detroit\, including the Fox Theatre\, City Theatre\, Hockeytown Café\, Joe Louis Arena (current home of the 11-time Stanley Cup-winning Detroit Red Wings) and Comerica Park (home of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers). Opening in September of 2017 will be the new Little Caesars Arena\, which will be home to both the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons. \nIn the fall of 2007\, Dave was honored by being inducted into the Achievement Hall of Fame at his high school\, Champion High School\, in Warren\, Ohio.   The first person to be inducted for the performing arts\, he was nominated by several of his former teachers. \nDave is organist at his church\, Southminster Presbyterian Church in Taylor\, Michigan. \nCurrently 45 years old\, Dave resides in Detroit\, Michigan.

SUMMARY:Soul Asylum and Cracker
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed alt-rock bands Soul Asylum and Cracker are performing a double headline concert at the historic Peoples Bank Theatre! \nSoul Asylum\nFormed in Minneapolis in 1981\, Grammy Award-winning band Soul Asylum’s raucous live sets and early releases on the hometown indie label Twin/Tone — including the albums Say What You Will\, Made to Be Broken and While You Were Out — earned it a loyal fan base and widespread critical acclaim. \nSoul Asylum’s indie success led to the band entering the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time and its 1990 follow-up And the Horse They Rode In On\, and achieving a platinum-level commercial breakthrough with 1992’s Grave Dancers Union and 1995’s Let Your Dim Light Shine. Grave Dancers Union featured the international hits “Runaway Train\,” which won a 1994 Grammy as Best Rock Song\, and “Black Gold\,” while Let Your Dim Light Shine spawned the hit “Misery.” \nCracker\nChart-topping band Cracker has been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock\, Americana\, and insurgent-country. They have even had the terms punk and classic-rock thrown at them. But more than anything\, Cracker are survivors. Cofounders David Lowery and Johnny Hickman have been at it for a quarter of a century – amassing ten studio albums\, multiple gold records\, thousands of live performances\, hit songs that are still in current radio rotation around the globe (“Low\,” “Euro-Trash Girl\,” “Get Off This\,” and “Turn On\, Tune In\, Drop Out With Me” to name just a few)\, and a worldwide fan base that— despite the major sea-changes within the music industry— continues to grow each year. \nCracker‘s tenth and most recent studio effort\, the double-album\, Berkeley To Bakersfield\, finds this uniquely American band traversing two different sides of the California landscape – the northern Bay area and further down-state in Bakersfield. Musically\, these two regions couldn’t be further apart from one another. In the late 70s and 80s a harder-edged style of rock music emerged from the Bay area\, while Bakersfield is renowned for its own iconic twangy country music popularized\, most famously\, by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the ‘60s and ‘70s. SUMMARY:Marietta College Spring Band Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Peoples Bank Theatre will come alive with the The Marietta College Spring Band Concert on Tuesday\, April 25th at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will feature Matters of the Heart. The music in the performance will deal with the various emotions that individuals experience during a lifetime.  Joy\, sadness\, shock\, contemplation\, laughter\, happiness and many more will be explored during this concert event. \nThere will a world premiere of I Carry Your Heart With Me by Marietta College music theory/composition professor Dr. Andrew Francis.  This composition is based on a poem by E. E. Cummings and will feature Dr. Amy Yekel\, dramatic soprano\, with the Marietta College Wind Ensemble. \nOther special guests will include Dr. Bill Ruud\, Marietta College President\, as he joins the Marietta College Symphonic Band.  Dr. Ruud was a high school clarinetist and will be adding his musical talents to two compositions being performed by the Symphonic Band. \nThe concert is open to the public and free of charge.  Seats are on a first come\, first serve basis.  The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. event.

The Branford Marsalis Quartet will be joined by guest-vocalist Kurt Elling in a singular collaboration of musical forces. What has emerged from the partnership\, after an intense week of performance and recording in New Orleans\, is a new album\, entitled Upward Spiral. This collection blends Songbook staples\, jazz standards\, and standards-to-be from a diverse array of composers. Every track on Upward Spiral confirms the beyond-category strengths of both the Quartet and Elling. The tight-knit working band featuring Marsalis on saxophones\, Joey Calderazzo on piano\, Eric Revis on bass\, and Justin Faulkner on drums form a nearly telepathically cohesive unit. The addition of Elling’s deep jazz vocabulary\, technical versatility\, and outstanding intonation enables the band to perform a variety of material in new ways. \n

She appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage in 2013 with The Fields of Gettysburg\, was a quarterfinalist in the 2015 and 2017 American Traditions Competition\, and won Best Cover Song in the 2015 and 2017 Ohio Music Awards. As a singer-songwriter\, her voice leans toward soulful styles with southern roots. In addition to her own songs\, she loves to write music for texts by modern poets. When she’s not singing\, Jess is a voice specialist. Also\, a public speaker and Emmy-nominated TV journalist\, Eric has appeared before countless corporate clients across America. Away from the stage\, he is a lecturer at Ohio Wesleyan University. Eric’s workshop is called\, “How to Write Comedic Songs and Parodies”. \nRon Sowell is best known for his role as the musical director for the internationally acclaimed radio show Mountain Stage. Ron Sowell is also a dynamic singer and performer\, accomplished guitar and harmonica player\, award winning songwriter and critically acclaimed producer. He has recorded four albums with West Virginia based bands – the Putnam County Pickers and Stark Raven. He has toured extensively across the United States and to Greenland\, Europe\, the Mediterranean and Africa. In addition\, he has recorded three solo CD’s of original music including his latest release” Little Movies”. \nRon’s Workshop: Cooking Up a Song from Scratch\nThe best way to learn to write a song is by doing it! Ron will talk about choosing a subject and a musical style\, deciding on tempo and picking a major or minor key to fit the emotion. He will then lead the class through the simple formula he has devised over the years at going from nothing\, to having a completed song! \nThe emphasis will be on spontaneity\, having fun\, and creating a safe space to offer ideas. Team work and respecting each other’s ideas will be encouraged. At the end of the day participants will have a creative process that they can take home and duplicate in other settings. \nGene Castelli\, Co-coordinator\, Nashville Songwriters Association International\, Columbus Chapter. A veteran songwriter\, Gene has taught the craft for more than a decade to songwriters of all levels. \nGene’s Workshop: From Idea to I Did It!\n“I’ve put together a list of the most common things about songwriting\, like\, hook\, chorus\, bridge\, pre-chorus\, etc. I will walk my class through the terminology and what it means\, and then have fun with them putting a song together. At the end we will all be putting our names on it as a co-writer!” \nJim Shaw\, MA\, is a music educator of 35 years in both public and private schools\, K-12. A composer and touring musician\, Jim is a faculty member in music education at Ashland University\, where he teaches primarily education and nursing students on techniques of bringing music into the classroom. A highlight is the album’s closer\, the gentle and hopeful “Rosy.” McClinton’s road band\, Self-Made Men provide a hard-driving rhythm section\, powerful guitars and innovative piano\, accented by punched-up horns. Delbert’s definitive vocals and distinct harmonica licks bring it all together. \nDelbert McClinton has been a leading Americana artist since before the genre was established. He has won two Grammy awards in the blues category for Best Contemporary Blues Album; and one in the rock category (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group)\, with Bonnie Raitt for “Good Man\, Good Woman”. \nDelbert’s unique musical style grew from his Texas music beginnings. Influenced at a young age by Tejano\, Western Swing\, Rhythm and Blues and War songs\, he developed a signature sound that served him well. \nDelbert grew up around Lubbock and Fort Worth\, and spent his early career in the desegregating roadhouses of Fort Worth’s Jacksboro Highway\, leading the house bands for Jimmy Reed\, Muddy Waters\, Bo Diddley\, and others\, while making a local name for himself. Later\, Delbert traveled to England where he headlined shows with Bruce Channel (“Hey Baby”) with a little-known Liverpool band [The Beatles] as the opening act. He then rolled into Los Angeles as songwriters began to take top billing\, and headed back to Texas for the progressive movement and blues renaissance that helped kick off Austin’s role in American musical history. \nIf you’ve seen a live Delbert McClinton show\, you will recognize the synchronized energy on Prick Of The Litter that comes from thousands of miles of playing together. Delbert feels that his current road band\, Self-Made Men\, is the best band he’s ever had. \n“Jack Bruno [drums] is amazing. He played with Joe Cocker and with Tina Turner for years. I’ve been harder on drummers than anybody in the world\, but Jack is right there where I need him. Dana Robbins [saxophone] and Quentin ‘Q’ Ware [trumpet] punctuate the live performances in just the right places. James Pennebaker [guitar] is family. He’s been playing with me off and on since he was nineteen. Mike Joyce [bass guitar]\, Kevin McKendree [piano]\, and Bob Britt [guitar] are among my best friends\, in addition to being in the band. Mike and Kevin and I write together a lot. We wrote most of the songs on this album together.” \nDelbert\, Kevin and Bob also co-produced Prick Of The Litter. “Going into the studio with a band that’s like family creates real magic\,” says Delbert. “You have the energy of a live band. We feed off of each other. We are better together. And it always feels like they have my back.” Jimmie Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton are an added bonus on the first track. Delbert adds “I am such a fan of Lou Ann and of Jimmie. We needed a female to do a part on ‘Don’t Do It.’ Bob suggested Lou Ann\, and I knew she would be perfect. I have always loved Jimmie and Lou Ann. I had talked to Jimmie about doing something on my last album but it didn’t work out. So this time\, we went to Austin and they both came into the studio. We spent about two hours and had a lot of fun. They are both so talented.” \nDelbert wrote or co-wrote ten of the songs on the album. “By the time we wrote these songs\, Mike\, Bob and Kevin had been in my band for a long time\,” says Delbert. “We got together every Wednesday for several weeks\, and then we went to Mexico and finished writing the rest of the album.” \n2017 is a milestone year for Delbert. In addition to the release of Prick Of The Litter\, a biography is slated for release in September. He has also been nominated for Texas State Musician\, a highly acclaimed state appointment akin to poet laureate. \nPrick of the Litter is a signature project for Delbert McClinton\, and he is proud of it. “We worked hard on this and we got exactly what we wanted\,” he says. “The songs\, the band\, the production. Everything came together. We didn’t leave no chicken on the bone\,” he says. \n“I did what I came to do with this album. I guess I really am One of the Fortunate Few.”

It could swing with the best of them\, and no other band could come close to Tommy’s when it came to playing ballads. Tommy Dorsey\, “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing”\, was a master at creating warm\, sentimental\, and always musical moods – at superb dancing and listening tempos. Tommy sustained these moods through the arrangements of the likes of Paul Weston\, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver\, and he showcased singers who could project them brilliantly. \nJack Leonard sang with the band for about four years\, recording such fine sides as “Dedicated To You”\, “If It’s The Last Thing I do”\, “Little White Lies”\, “You Taught Me To Love Again”\, “Once In A While”\, and\, probably the most famous of all\, “Marie”. With the band singing vocal riffs as Jack sang the straight lyric\, “Marie” was so successful that he recorded several more standard tunes with the same formula. They include “Who”\, “Yearning”\, and “East Of The Sun”. “Song Of India”\, the other side of “Marie”\, was also a huge Dorsey hit. \nFrank Sinatra’s career blossomed with Dorsey\, and\, with Sinatra’s vocals\, the band became more successful than ever. Frank had often admitted that listening to Tommy helped him develop his phrasing and breathing\, along with his musical taste and knowledge. \nSy Oliver infused the band with a new musical spirit. It was a gentler version of the rocking\, rhythmic sounds that he had created for Jimmy Lunceford\, toned down somewhat and played with more precision by the Dorsey Band. These original tunes included “Easy Does It”\, “Quiet Please”\, “Sing High”\, “Yes\, Indeed”\, “Swingin’ On Nothing”\, “Well\, Git It”\, and “Opus No 1”. Oliver also had a unique way of approaching a straight pop tune\, injecting a soft\, two-beat feeling into. He did this with resounding success in such arrangements as “What Can I Say After I Say I’m Sorry? “\, “For You”\, “Swanee River”\, “Mandy”\, “Make Up Your Mind”\, “Chicago”\, and “On The Sunny Side Of The Street”. \nThe vocalists worked both individually and together\, turning out several hits of superior quality. There was Sinatra’s “This Love of Mine”\, Jo Stafford’s “Embraceable You”\, the Pied Pipers’ and Sinatra’s “There Are Such Things”\, “Just As Though You Were Here”\, “Street Of Dreams”\, and “Oh\, Look At Me Now”. Their biggest hit of all\, the one that established vocal groups forever\, was “I’ll Never Smile Again”. \nThe Band was at its best in this decade. In the summer of 1941\, it outranked every other band to finish first in one of the most indicative of all popularity polls\, Martin Block’s Make Believe Ballroom contest. \nBy late 1946\, it was becoming apparent that the band business was having problems. In December 1946\, eight top bandleaders announced they were calling it quits – Woody Herman\, Benny Goodman\, Harry James\, Les Brown\, Jack Teagarden\, Benny Carter\, Ina Ray Hutton and Tommy Dorsey. Essentially\, this was the official end of the Big Band Era. However\, it was Tommy Dorsey who\, in the years immediately following\, fought the case of the big bands with words and action. Less than two years later\, he was fronting a formidable new group.\nIt’s about time somebody got things going again”\, Tommy said at the time. “You can’t expect to have any real interest in dance bands if the bands don’t go around the country and play for the kids.” \nAnd so it continues. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is still traveling throughout the country playing “for the kids” (of all ages).

DESCRIPTION:A benefit concert for the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County \nDespite growing up in the small country town of Coshocton\, Ohio\, Allen carries an eclectic variety of musical influences like Def Leppard\, Garth Brooks\, Justin Timberlake\, Goo Goo Dolls and Neal McCoy but truly has his family’s musical history to thank for his uniquely edgy\, country infused sound\, “A lot of my family-members were singers. From 80’s rock to blues and modern country\, they covered it all.”\n\nAfter opening for Kip Moore\, the chart-topping Country rocker gave Allen the advice\, “Quit everything you’re doing\, move to Nashville and write your ass off\,” and Allen did exactly that. The very next day the hopeful singer-songwriter packed his things to seek out Music City for himself and within weeks was calling Nashville “home.”\n\nShortly after arriving in Music City\, the singer-songwriter signed a co-management deal with music industry veterans Herb Graham and Shawn Pennington\, followed by signing a publishing deal. Allen is also now part of the world-renowned William Morris Endevour’s artist roster.\n\nSince starting his musical journey\, the tenacious newcomer has performed alongside chart-topping acts such as Jake Owen\, Kip Moore\, Brad Paisley\, Chris Janson and Parmalee\, and had a full-circle moment when given the opportunity to play alongside childhood hero\, Neal McCoy.\n\nAllen continues to captivate audiences across the country with his high energy performance and charismatic spirit\, “I can’t describe the overwhelming feeling I get every time I walk on the stage. At first glance this world seems vastly different than ours\, but a second glance reveals it is actually quite similar. \nAluminum pipes come to life right before the audience’s very eyes\, transforming into imaginary\, mysterious\, and playful characters. Much like in our world\, the aluminum universe is also plagued by a fight between good and evil\, where the forces of beauty and compassion strive to triumph over the forces of intrigue and fear. \nThe new show was written and directed by Lior Kalfo\, creator of the internationally successful shows “Voca People\,” “Fantasy\,” and “Glow\,” with choreography by Ido Tadmor\, one of Israel’s foremost choreographers\, and under the artistic direction of Ilan Azriel\, co-creator of the international Aluminum Show. \nThe show is suitable for all ages.

DESCRIPTION:$22 / $28 / $34 \nPresented with support from Theisen Brock and Dr. Mark & Tammy Cinalli. \nRick Michel\, who has performed and headlined in Las Vegas since 1981\, presents “Sinatra Forever\,” focusing totally on the music of Frank Sinatra. Michel salutes and interprets the Ol’ Blue Eyes standards. Michel has been called: \n“The closest thing to Sinatra we have ever heard” by “Variety.” \n \nMichel\, a master impressionist for more than 40 years\, has been touring his “Sinatra Forever” show around the country as well as internationally with performances in Canada\, Mexico and Chile. \nMichel has shared the stage with many celebrities including Rich Little\, Mickey Rooney\, John Byner and Sherman Hemsley; opened for comics such as Bobby Collins\, John Pinette\, Rita Rudner and George Wallace; and performed impersonations for such luminaries as Frank Sinatra\, President Gerald Ford\, Tony Curtis and Steve Allen. \nIn 1994\, Michel shared the spotlight with Rich Little playing Bob Hope to Little’s Bing Crosby and Jerry Lewis to his Dean Martin. Little called Michel “one of the best impressionists around today.” \nFor Michel\, a memorable highlight came when he performed his impression of Bob Hope for the comedic icon himself at the Bob Hope Celebrity Golf Classic in Palm Springs. He also made appearances in an episode of “Baywatch” playing a schizophrenic killer\, and on “Entertainment Tonight\,” “America’s Funniest People” and the “Larry King Show.” \nIn 1989\, Michel moved to Las Vegas. In 1999\, David Cassidy saw Michel performing his impression of Sinatra with a 22-piece orchestra and asked him to be the understudy for his show “The Rat Pack is Back” at the Desert Inn. He played the Sinatra\, Dean Martin and Joey Bishop roles\, and when the show moved to the Sahara in 2000\, played Martin for its 25-month run. \nGiving back to the community\, Michel is involved in several charity events including the Salvation Army Christmas Toys for Tots\, Fox 5 “Take 5 for Kids” Suitcase Drive\, Help Them Walk Again Foundation and Make a Difference Day.

DESCRIPTION:$25 / $30 / $35 \nPeoples Bank Theatre presents a special concert celebrating the album release for You and the World Outside by JD Hutchison on Howdy Skies Records\, produced by Tim O’Brien. \nTim O’Brien \n \nIt has been four years since Tim’s last solo recording. Between collaborations with Darrell Scott\, the recent Grammy-winning recording with Jerry Douglas’s Earls of Leicester and the rebooting of Hot Rize; he’s barely had time for a shower. Still\, somewhere in O’Brien’s vivid imagination\, the seeds of Pompadour began to sprout. The fruits of his recent wanderings\, music making and worldly observations have blossomed into eleven exquisitely varied\, true-to-life and above all musical tracks. \nEach of O’Brien’s solo albums has a distinctive identity. Many have specific themes\, including Red on Blonde\, an insightful collection of Bob Dylan compositions\, and his Grammy-winning celebration of Appalachian music and its Celtic roots\, Fiddler’s Green. So it is with Pompadour\, or at least most of it. “It’s kind of a breakup record\,” O’Brien says. “I separated from my wife four years ago and got divorced a year after that. So there’s a breakup\, an assessment and ultimately delight at the end.” \nWhat separates Pompadour from his previous thematic albums? O’Brien answers by looking back to his first nationally released album. “When I did Hard Year Blues\, a friend said\, ‘This is kind of like a Chinese menu; there are so many options here. What’s the theme?’ It was really eclectic. Now\, with Pompadour\, I’ve sort of melded things together\, like the flavors in a stew.” \nPompadour swirls together bits of bluegrass\, deep-roots Appalachian music\, field hollers\, old-school rock ‘n’ roll\, traditional jazz and even James Brownian funk. \nJD Hutchison \n \n  \nJ.D. Hutchison is a native of the Appalachian region of southeastern Ohio. He was born\, the second of four sons to John Williams and Emma Jane Harper Hutchison\, in a tiny three-room house located one mile west of the town square in the village of Barnesville. His was a musical family. His father was a well-known guitarist and fiddler in the community; he often appeared with his wife (J.D.’s mother) as a singing duo at public functions in the area. There seemed to be an unfailing congregation of local players nearby every week at someone-or-another’s house where a plentiful table would be at the ready and music would prevail until all were played out. These conditions imbued JD from early childhood with a strong affection and affinity for tradition-based string music.

SUMMARY:A Musical Salute to Randy Travis
DESCRIPTION:On September 16\, 1986\, country music legend Randy Travis performed at the Colony Theatre in Marietta\, Ohio\, just as his career was taking off. Almost 30 years later on Thursday September 15\, 2016\, at 7:30 p.m.\, Travis will return to the stage of the present-day Peoples Bank Theatre. Travis will not be performing\, due to a stroke he suffered three years ago\, but he will make an appearance to be honored and enjoy the show. Chuck Lipps\, VP of Rick Modesitt & Associates\, was a member of the opening band The Breeze at the 1986 show and opened many others for Travis from 1987 through 1997. He has continued his friendship with Travis over the years and is very proud that RMA could put this show together. \nThe show will feature The Randy Travis Band with special guest vocalist Kevin Denney. Opening the show will be two former members of the Breeze\, drummer Lipps and bass guitarist Ron Bevan\, along with lead guitarist Dave James and steel guitarist Gary Carter. Carter was in Travis’ band at the 1986 show. \n“To come full-circle almost 30 years to the date in the same venue is historic and certainly a part of country music history for Randy\, myself\, and the theatre’s executive director Hunt Brawley\,” Lipps says. “From 1986 CMA Horizon Award winner to 2016 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee\, Randy has cemented his place in country music forever\, and part of it started right here.” \nHaving Travis there in person is a miracle in itself. In July\, 2013\, he suffered a heart virus followed by a stroke that left him unable to sing. But with his intense therapy and determination\, he has made great strides and “giant baby steps” in his abilities in the past three years. \n“I was fortunate to visit with Randy this past December and again in May\, and I saw improvement over that time\,” Lipps adds. “His wife\, Mary\, is his rock. I truly believe he will sing again. I couldn’t think of a better way to honor him. He’s a big reason I’m still in the music business.” \nRick Modesitt & Associates is producing the show\, and all proceeds will go to the newly established Randy Travis Foundation for Viral Cardiomyopathy Detection\, Stroke Rehab and Music for Underprivileged Children.
