Tickets are $15\, $20 and $25 and may be purchased online at www.peoplesbanktheatre.com\, by phone at 740-371-5152 or at the ticket office. \nThis is the very same River Cities Symphony Orchestra that wowed an appreciative audience at its inaugural concert at the Peoples Bank Theatre on April 4th with great ensemble performances of Beethoven Symphony No. 5 and Elgar Cello Concerto in an acoustically great venue.  Internationally acclaimed cellist Steven Doane praised the Theatre for its warmth and clarity of sound\, comparing it to the finest musical venues he has played.  He also lauded the outstanding musicianship of Maestro Robert Turizziani and the entire orchestra. \nFor the upcoming concert\, Maestro Turizziani has prepared a great program of music\, taking a quick trip to DOWNTON ABBEY\, a little jog to New York City of the psychedelic ‘60s to let down your HAIR as you breeze past Gary\, Indiana looking for a MUSIC MAN\, to an AMERICAN SALUTE to a lush HUNGARIAN DANCE and bringing your FAIR LADY to hum along with Broadway tunes that we all know. There will also be a touch of ROMANTIC symphony and a little bit of Klezmer Clarinet to make you want to dance. DESCRIPTION:…A legend lives on! \nPresented with support from Morrison Incorporated. \nThe legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930s and 40s. A matchless string of hit records\, the constant impact of radio broadcasts\, and the drawing power of concerts at theatres\, hotels and dance pavilions\, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. \nGlenn disbanded his musical organization in 1942\, at the height of its popularity\, to volunteer for the Army. There\, he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. It went to Europe to give concerts for servicemen\, performing numerous live and radio shows. On December 15\, 1944\, Major Miller took off in a single engine plane from Europe to precede his band to France\, disappearing over the English Channel\, never to be seen again. The army declared him officially dead a year later. \nWith the release of the major motion movie The Glenn Miller Story featuring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson in 1954\, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra. On June 6\, 1956—under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley\, who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn’s disappearance—the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been on the road ever since. Other leaders have followed Ray\, including clarinetists Buddy DeFranco and Peanuts Hucko\, trombonists Buddy Morrow\, Jimmy Henderson\, Larry O’Brien\, and Gary Tole\, and tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart. Since January 2012\, vocalist Nick Hilscher leads the band. \nToday\, the 18 member ensemble continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the AAFB libraries. Additionally\, it also plays some more modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. \nJust as it was in Glenn’s day\, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought after big band in the world.

SUMMARY:Marietta College Band Concert
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, April 19th at 7:30 p.m.\, the Peoples Bank Theatre will come alive with the sound of music as the Marietta College Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble make their debut in the renovated venue with the John Philip Sousa: Looking Back and Planning Ahead Spring Band Concert.  The concert is open to the public and free of charge.  Doors to the theatre will open for audience entrance at 7:00 p.m. \n“Much thought went into the programming for the concert\,” according to Associate Professor Marshall C. Kimball\, Director of Bands and Instrumental Activities at Marietta College.  “When I realized we were going to have this opportunity to perform in the beautifully renovated theatre\, I thought it would be very appropriate to perform the type of concert that could have been heard in the theatre during it’s opening days in 1919.  That was a time when the John Philip Sousa band\, a professional concert band\, was very popular. From that thought came the music selection for this historic performance event.” \nThe Spring Band Concert will be in the same format as that of the John Philip Sousa Band concerts.  “It is not all Sousa Marches\, although the bands will be performing two of his marches including King Cotton and the concert finale will be a mass band performance of Stars and Stripes Forever\,” said Kimball. \nDuring Sousa’s concerts Sousa always featured a soprano soloist.  To fulfill this standard for the concert Dr. Amy Yekel\, dramatic soprano and MC vocal adjunct will perform the Italian aria\, Voi lo sapete from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and will follow that performance with Someone To Watch Over Me by George and Ira Gershwin.  Dr. Yekel will be accompanied by the Symphonic Band.  Sousa also consistently featured an instrumental soloist\, who will be MC saxophone adjunct\, Jordan Reed.  Reed will be performing Fantasia for Alto Saxophone and Band by Claude Smith\, performing with the MC Wind Ensemble. \nIntroducing new band literature was a characteristic of the Sousa Band concerts.  To continue that tradition the Marietta College Wind Ensemble will be performing the world premiere of Because It Was Real  by Marietta College music theory professor\, Dr. Andrew Francis. \nOther compositions being performed on the concert will include selections that the Sousa Band performed during it’s era of popularity\, including The Star Spangled Banner\, which was performed at every Sousa event. \n“Other special events are planned for this festive evening but those will be kept under wraps to build the expectations for the concert.  To say the least we are all very excited for this opportunity and plan a great concert and event for both the performers and the audience.  Our goal is to “Pack the House with a full audience of 940 attendees.  We hope the community and college will support the bands for this special concert\,” say Kimball. \nFor more information on the concert contact the Edward E. DESCRIPTION:Peoples Bank Theatre presents The Charlies Daniels Band live in concert. From his Dove Award winning gospel albums to his genre-­‐‑defining Southern rock anthems and his CMA Award-­‐‑winning country hits\, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America’s musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot\, beloved mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 78\, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-­‐‑platinum career and a platform to support the military\, underprivileged children and others in need. \nThe CDB will perform 100 concert dates this year including performances on the Grand Ole Opry. The band’s latest release\, “Off the Grid — Doin’ It Dylan\,” features 10 Bob Dylan songs by the CDB\, and is their first CDB studio release since 2007. \nWhether performing in the hit 80s movie Urban Cowboy\, singing on Easter Sunday at his local church or leading an all-­‐‑star cast at one of his famed Volunteer Jams\, Charlie just exudes joy whenever he steps on stage and he’s always been quick to provide a platform for other artists to shine. In 1974 he invited some friends to join him at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium for an all-­‐‑star concert he dubbed The Volunteer Jam. The event continued for years and was broadcast in the U.S. and internationally. Over the years\, the Jam featured a diverse line up that included Willie Nelson\, Ted Nugent\, Roy Acuff\, Stevie Ray Vaughn\, Crystal Gayle\, James Brown\, Emmylou Harris\, Amy Grant\, George Thorogood\, Kris Kristofferson\, Little Richard\, Tammy Wynette\, Alabama\, Oak Ridge Boys\, B. B. King and the Allman Brothers. \nOver the course of his career\, Charlie has received numerous accolades\, including induction into the Grand Ole Opry and Musicians Hall of Fame. He’s received a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. SUMMARY:The Johnny Clegg Band
DESCRIPTION:Peoples Bank Theatre presents The Johny Clegg Band live in concert. Johnny Clegg is one of South Africa’s most celebrated sons. He is a singer\, a songwriter\, a dancer\, anthropologist and a musical activist whose infectious crossover music\, a vibrant blend of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms\, has exploded onto the international scene and broken through all the barriers in his own country. In France\, where he enjoys a massive following\, he is fondly called Le Zulu Blanc – the white Zulu. \nOver three decades\, Johnny Clegg has sold over five million albums of his brand of crossover music worldwide. He has wowed vast audiences with his audacious live shows and won a number of national and international awards for his music and for his outspoken views on apartheid\, his perspectives on migrant workers in South Africa and the general situation in the world today. Johnny Clegg’s history is as bold\, colorful\, and dashing as the rainbow country which he has called home for more than 40 years. \n \nJohnny Clegg was born in Bacup\, near Rochdale\, England\, in 1953\, but was brought up in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Between his mother (a cabaret and jazz singer) and his step-father (a crime reporter who took him into the townships at an early age)\, Johnny was exposed to a broader cultural perspective than that available to his peers. \nWhilst lecturing Anthropology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg\, Clegg worked on the concept of blending English lyrics and Western melodies with Zulu musical structures alongside his songwriting and performance partner\, Sipho Mchunu. This blend was recognized by South African producer\, Hilton Rosenthal\, who became the champion of the project and who continues to promote Johnny Clegg’s work today. \nClegg and Mchunu called their band\, JULUKA\, which means “sweat” in Zulu. Their music was subjected to censorship and internal restrictions on the state-owned radio and their only way to access an audience was through touring. They played concerts at universities\, church halls\, and migrant labor hostels and in the living rooms of private houses because the law forbade mixed race performances in public venues and spaces. Juluka was most fruitful during 1982 and 1983 with tours of the USA\, Canada\, Germany and Scandinavia. In the six years that they were together\, the band recorded two platinum and five gold albums and became an international success. Juluka split up in 1985 when Mchunu returned to his roots as a cattle farmer in Zululand. \nDuring this time\, Clegg formed another crossover band\, SAVUKA (which means “we have risen”). His concept was to mix African music with a wider music base and international rock sounds. Savuka’s first album (Third World Child\, 1987) broke all international sales records in France\, Switzerland and Belgium in 1988. They went on to record four additional albums and tour extensively in Europe and North America\, breaking all attendance records in France in 1988 and 1989. \nFollowing a brief reunion in 1997 with his lifelong friend\, Mchunu\, during which Juluka released one final album\, Ya Vuka Inkunzi\, Clegg recorded a number of solo projects. Since 2004\, he has toured Europe and North America extensively with his band\, playing concerts to capacity houses and appearing at several world-famous events including the Montreal International Jazz Festival\, the Tribeca Film Festival in New York\, New Orleans Jazzfest\, Festival de Cornauille –France\, Festineuch in Switzerland\, Musique Métisses at Angouleme (France’s premier World Music festival)\, Live at Sunset (Zuric)\, Fête de l’humanité in Paris\, and Quebec Summer Festival (Festival d’eté de Québec).

Although his catalogue of tunes is not without dark or mournful underpinnings\, his songs always glow out of that dark night\, with the soft but steady warmth of Bruce. His personal musical achievements are enviable enough on their own\, having been recently nominated for a WAMMIE award for his song “Tocoi Light\,” and having graced the stage of West Virginia Public Radio’s much-celebrated “Mountain Stage” roots music radio program. His legacy is also manifest in his studio (I Love Brucie studios)\, his family\, all musically celebrated themselves (his wife and sometimes musical partner\, Gay is a member of The Local Girls\, and their adult son Harlan is one half of The Princes of Hollywood)\, and his unflappable commitment to playing pro bono A&R man to the scores of hopeful\, novice singer-songwriters who clamber to his long-running open mics at Baker University Center’s Bunch of Grapes room Wednesday nights\, and The Front Room on Friday nights. Sensing that he could offer even more\, he took it upon himself to create Singer-Songwriter showcases at Donkey Coffee for emerging local talent\, which eventually bore a child in the form of an ongoing CD series. No matter how bad the new arrivals to the open stages are\, no matter how many times he has heard the same cover song\, he always gently taps his feet\, and he always earnestly claps. For this\, he has garnered neither fame nor fortune\, but he does have the enduring respect of hundreds of strummers who left Athens better musicians than when they arrived.

Tiffany received a standing ovation after her encore performance of ‘Angelus’ at Carnegie Hall where she also performed Gorecky’s Symphony Of Sorrowful Songs. Tiffany has performed numerous operatic roles and classical concerts throughout the New York area. Recently\, Ms. CasaSante has been the featured soloist with our own River Cities Symphony Orchestra. Tiffany also enjoys teaching and has maintained a voice studio for the past eighteen years. \nBarbara Grizer is excited to be back in her hometown of Marietta Ohio to perform at Peoples Bank Theatre. Barbara has won the Khalil award for her portrayal of Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker with the Mid Ohio Valley Players and also for her portrayal of Anne Shirely in Anne of Green Gables with The Actors Guild of Parkersburg. Barbara now lives and performs in New York City. She has performed in many concerts and shows throughout the U.S. and abroad\, her most recent performances were in Croatia and Italy this past summer. Some of her roles include Barbarina in The Marriage of Fiagro\, Papagena in The Magic Flute\, Jospehine in H.M.S. Pinafore\, The Witch in Hansel and Gretel\, and Micaela in Carmen.  \nChristian A. Lindsey has performed as singer\, conductor\, and collaborative pianist in theaters and concert halls in Spain\, Mexico\, the U.S.\, and Puerto Rico. He has sung lead tenor roles in Spanish operettas (zarzuelas) and performed lead roles in various operas\, operettas\, and musicals\, as well as soloist for several choirs\, including the Lancaster Chorale with which he sang tenor solo in the premier of Patrick Dawes’ Psalm 91. His roles include Tamino\, Rinuccio\, McHeath\, and Pirelli. Christian has served as musical director for two zarzuela companies in Spain\, taught in Mexico\, and has conducted dozens of zarzuelas\, operettas\, gala and choral concerts here and abroad\, including Les Misérables with Mid Ohio Valley Players. Mr. Lindsey is slated to conduct Oklahoma! in June of this year at the People’s Bank Theater. \nDave Roberts has appeared in numerous Actors Guild of Parkersburg productions including The Civil War\, Paint Your Wagon\, as Padre in Man of La Mancha and as Muff Potter in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: the Musical. He has also appeared in the WVU-Parkersburg production of HMS Pinafore as Captain Corcoran. He most recently appeared as the Conquistador Ancestor in The Addams Family at the Guild. A native of the MOV\, Dave regularly serves as cantor and soloist in Parkersburg and Marietta area churches and studies voice with Tiffany CasaSante. He is a software systems analyst for Fairfax\, Virginia based FedComp\, Inc. \nJimmy Sundquist is a native of the Mid-Ohio Valley.  After graduating from Warren High School\, he attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he studied choral music education and piano\, and received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education.  He currently substitute teaches in several local school districts\, serves as the organist of First United Methodist Church in Parkersburg\, and often accompanies local musicians.  In addition to the piano\, he is an experienced handbell ringer; he has performed handbell solos in the past\, and currently plays in the Mid-Ohio Valley Ringers. \nPLEASE NOTE: Entrance to Stage Door Cabaret concerts is through the back stage door on Third Street\, just around the corner from our main entrance on Putnam Street.

(General Admission) \nFeaturing an all-star cast of Mid-Ohio Valley musicians\, The Fields of Gettysburg will be presented live in concert on the Peoples Bank Theatre stage. The Fields of Gettysburg is a song cycle that weaves together the personal stories of six people – actual people – whose lives intersected on the crossroads of Gettysburg during the epic battle that took place there on July 1-4\, 1863. \nCertainly a turning point of the American Civil War\, Gettysburg is among the ranks of the most significant battles in world history. More than 150\,000 lives collided in this small Pennsylvania town (population: 2\,500 at the time)\, creating at least that many viewpoints and a million stories to tell. \nThe Fields of Gettysburg will introduce the listeners to six of these people and provide a glimpse of their individual and very personal stories. The characters include two key Generals\, one Union and one Confederate\, who provide the moral bookends to the song cycle; three young Gettysburg natives who grew up together – only to be torn apart by the war – each yearning for some kind of reunion and a return to peace; and a mother who struggles to make sense of her own personal loss as well as the massive loss of the Nation’s youth. \nThis historically accurate musical presentation includes 12 songs and narrative that pulls the stories together\, all back-dropped by a pictorial presentation featuring period photographs and scenery of Gettysburg and the people involved. The entire show runs approximately 80 minutes. \nThe Peoples Bank Theatre presentation of The Fields of Gettysburg will be the full-ensemble version of the song cycle (acoustic & electric guitars\, bass\, drums\, piano & harmonica played by John A. Walsh\, Michael Lipton [Mountain Stage]\, Ted Harrison\, Ammed Solomon [Mountain Stage]\, Bill White\, and Todd Burge). Vocalists for this concert will be the original album cast: Vocalists for this show will be the original album cast: John A. WALSH \nAs Lieutenant General James Longstreet & Acoustic Guitars \nBorn in North Tonawanda\, New York\, John was raised from a young age in Marietta\, Ohio; where he began playing guitar and writing songs at age 11 in 1974.  He cut his musical teeth on the great Singer/Songwriters of the 1960’s & 1970’s. From those early days\, Walsh continually refined his skills and now has over 40 years of writing experience under his belt. \nHis special talent for lyrical depth coupled with an oft-times off-the-beaten-path style of chord progression and song structure renders unique\, listenable and memorable songs. His songs have been described as “intensely personal\,” “he sang what I wanted to say…” and\, “the lyrics read like a painting…” Walsh is also an accomplished guitarist and vocalist blessed with a very listenable tonal range. \nOver the years\, Walsh has written scores of songs and has performed both as a soloist and in a variety of bands all over the United States. John has had the opportunity to play on the same stage with notables such as Jason Isbell\, Lucy Kaplansky\, Tim O’Brien\, Amanda Shires\, Todd Burge and Larkin Poe. He’s been host and artistic director of that show since its beginning in 1983. He was also one of the founders and Executive Director of FestivALL Charleston\, a ten day multi-arts festival\, from 2005 until 2015. \nLarry has recorded twenty-four albums and the top ten hit single “Junk Food Junkie”. The albums include many releases for Walt Disney records\, one of which was nominated for a “Children’s Record of the Year” Grammy. \nThe New York Times\, People Magazine and other national publications have profiled him and he’s performed on The Tonight Show\, The Merv Griffin Show\, American Bandstand\, The Midnight Special\, The Rich Little Show\, Nashville Now\, The Disney Channel\, Doctor Demento (JFJ was Demento’s “Song of the Year” in ‘76) and A Prairie Home Companion. \nLarry was born in Dallas and lived in New York and Los Angeles before moving to West Virginia in 1972 as part of a National Endowment for the Arts Musician-in-Residence program.  While living here\, he also did musician residencies in twenty-two other states. Along with his music and production work over the years\, he owned the Morgantown School of Ballet\, co-owned the alternative news and humor magazine Graffiti\, and acted in the feature film\, Paradise Park. \nIn 2008 Larry was awarded the West Virginia Governor’s Award for Leadership in the Arts\, in 2010 he was inducted into the West Virginia Broadcasters Hall of Fame and in 2012 he was named Outstanding West Virginian by the West Virginia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. In 2013 he was an honoree at the Charleston Community Music Association’s Arts Awards and he has received honorary Doctorate of Music degrees from the University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan College. \nHe and his wife Sandra recently recorded and released an album called “Live Forever” produced by Don Dixon. \n  \nTODD BURGE \nAs Brigadier General John Buford & Harmonica \nEmploying wry humor\, dexterous guitar work and drawing on a rich variety of life experiences\, Todd Burge has emerged as one of West Virginia’s most prolific singer/songwriters. Burge\, has played everything from Alternative Rock to Contemporary Folk\, performing concerts at festivals and in venues as diverse as CBGB’s\, The Country Music Hall of Fame\,  The Kennedy Center\, and of course\, literally hundreds of clubs including the obscure\, to the world famous Caffe Lena\, Club Passim and Music City Roots.  He is a repeat guest on NPR’s Mountain Stage and has been called the “dean of WV songwriters\, the best we have”\, by its host\, Larry Groce. In 2014\, Burge wrote 13 songs for a musical adaptation of Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare. The show received great reviews as it was performed at Muskingum Park in Marietta Ohio\, produced by Marietta College/The Colony Theatre and directed by Geoff Coward. \nBurge\, who may be best known for his method of writing songs from the perspective of odd characters\, bugs and animals (listen to Building Characters produced by Don Dixon) has recently released an album of very personal songs entitled Imitation Life (2015). The recording was produced by long term collaborator\, Tim O’Brien. O’Brien is an inductee of the WV Music Hall of Fame and Grammy winner. Since she couldn’t pick just one style to study\, she earned classical singing degrees from Alderson-Broaddus University and Meredith College and then studied at the CCM Voice Pedagogy Institute in CCM genres like soul\, R&B\, blues\, jazz\, funk\, country\, and musical theatre. Growing up on country and Motown\, and later discovering punk on his own\, Justin creates a unique blend of these diverse influences in his music. Not learning to play guitar until the age of 19\, Justin has made up for his late musical start by playing countless shows. Being a member of bands Sacra Via\, Radio 1\, and The Hopewell\, in addition to playing solo\, has allowed Justin to play shows throughout the Midwest. Never wanting his music to be limited by “labels”\, Justin plays a variety of music from different genres. His musical diversity has afforded him the opportunity to open for a wide range of musicians including Black Stone Cherry\, Smile Empty Soul\, Hawthorne Heights\, Royal Bliss\, Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root\, Atom Smash\, Joe Diffie\, Jake Owen\, Bucky Covington\, and Keith Burns of Trick Pony. \n  \nCOLTON PACK \nAs Corporal Johnston “Jack” Skelly \nColton Pack is country music singer from West Virginia.  He now resides in Nashville pursuing his passion to be a country music artist. During 2014 he was selected as an Up and Coming Artist for the CMA Fest in Nashville\, TN. He burst onto the national scene after appearing on season 3 of X Factor USA. Colton was the lead singer of the country trio\, Restless Road\, formed by music mastermind\, Simon Cowell. The group went on to finish 4th on the show. Shortly after the competition Colton announced a return to his solo career. \nColton was first discovered and mentored at the age of 15 by prominent songwriter/producer\, Jeff Stevens.  As a result Colton and a host of other distinguished Nashville songwriters have collaborated to write numerous songs. Colton maintains a busy performance schedule including opening for the likes of Dustin Lynch and Kellie Pickler. Whether captivating audiences with soulful acoustic performances or rocking the house with his band\, the result is the same: great country music! Colton’s musical instincts and unique vocal tones have continued to amaze those whom he has been fortunate enough to work with or perform for. \n  \nDJ ARCHER \nAs Jenny Wade \nDarlene Jane “DJ” Archer is a gifted young vocalist. Her wistful performance of “A Daydream Away” is captivating.  No doubt her real life experience as a military spouse gives her a special insight into Jennie’s longing for the return of her fiancée from the war. \nDJ began singing in choirs at just three years old\, eventually becoming a key voice in the Parkersburg High School (Parkersburg\, West Virginia) A Cappella & Chamber Choirs.  She has also performed in several musicals including “Annie” and “Honk.” DJ’s singing skills enabled her to win the Parkersburg Homecoming Talent Show competition.  DJ is the Youth Director at Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna\, WV.  Ms. Archer and her young family make their home in Vienna\, West Virginia. \n  \nBILL WHITE \nKeyboards \nBill White is an active advocate for music education in Ohio’s schools. He currently serves as President\, Ohio Foundation for Music Education\, Ohio Music Education Association. \nHis interest in music began with piano lessons at age five. He later played woodwinds in the Marietta High School Band where he won the John Philip Sousa Award in 1965. He left Ohio University to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Attached to a helicopter squadron in New River\, North Carolina\, he spent free time in a rock band playing chicken-wire stages in oyster bars and juke joints along the Carolina coast. \nDeployed to Vietnam in 1970\, Bill connected with a detachment of the famed Marine Corps Band sent to Quảng Nam province for ceremonial command transfers to the South Vietnamese military. When these conservatory-trained musicians formed an off-duty band\, The Mash Sinners\, they convinced their commanding officer to borrow Bill as a temporary keyboard player. For a few weeks he was able to leverage his keyboard skills into a counterpoint experience to helicopter gunships and supply missions to firebases throughout the 1st Marine Division area of operations. \nBill writes contemporary and pastoral music. His original Bless the Ring is frequently performed during the exchange of rings in the nuptial mass. He continues to play keys whenever he can\, including acoustic gigs with long-time friend and collaborator John A. Walsh\, and occasional performances with The Fossils. \nIn 1985 Bill co-founded Offenberger & White\, Inc. (OffWhite)\, a Marietta-based marketing firm specializing in life science\, biotech and technology communications for clients in the USA\, Europe and Asia. \n  \nMICHAEL LIPTON \nElectric Guitars\, Omnichord \nBorn in Ossining\, NY\, and raised in Miami\, FL\, Michael Lipton moved to a farm in rural Calhoun County in 1973\, when he was 19. While there\, he formed the band Big Money\, which played around the mid-Atlantic for a decade. He also started the county’s first organized trash collection service\, King Pin Trash Service. He began freelancing for The Charleston Gazette in the mid-‘80s and\, after his house was struck by lightning and burned to the ground\, moved to Charleston.  He continued writing regular features\, columns and reviews for the Gazette as well as becoming co-publisher and editor of the alternative newspaper Graffiti – which he edited until it was sold in 2005. \nHis writing has appeared in magazines including “The Village Voice\,” “Spin\,” “LA Weekly\,” “Hustler” and “The New York Times.” \nIn the late ‘80s\, he began playing in the “Mountain Stage” house band and formed The Carpenter Ants\, an R&B group which has now been together for 25 years. The band has toured Moscow twice\, appeared on NPR’s “Mountain Stage” and “Whad’Ya Know?” and toured with the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Along the way he has toured with various bands\, produced numerous CDs\, scored three feature films\, documentaries and shorts. \nRecently\, he won an Edward R. Murrow Award for his work on Trey Kay’s radio documentary “The Great Textbook War.” After selling Graffiti in 2005\, Lipton founded the WV Music Hall of Fame and continues to be the organization’s director. \n  \nTED HARRISON \nBass Guitar \nTed Harrison graduated from West Virginia State College with a degree in music education as a tuba player in 1978. He played in the Ringling Bros Circus band when it visited his hometown in 1976. In his junior year of college\, he picked up the electric bass ironically as a secondary instrument and immediately fell in love with it. \nHe has been playing in the group The Carpenter Ants with Michael Lipton since 1987.  As a member of that group\, he has been fortunate to perform with\, thanks to Lipton’s two decade-long association with the internationally syndicated radio show Mountain Stage\, a long\, varied list of players that have sat in at after-show jams for sets that ping-pong from rock ’n’ roll and blues to country and gospel. That list includes Radney Foster\, Bill Lloyd\, Don Dixon\, Mollie O’Brien\, Tony Furtado\, Hayes Carll\, Duke Robillard\, Greg Martin\, Terry Reid\, Ben Sollee\, Dwight Twilley\, Bill Danoff\, The Sweetback Sisters\, The Alternate Routes\, Robyn Hitchcock\, the late Luther Allison\, English rock legend Kevin Coyne\, Bill Kirchen\, Curtis Stigers\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, Joe Ely\, Howard Levy\, ex-Replacement Slim Dunlap\, Marshall Crenshaw\, Jason Isbell\, John Mooney and Chip “Wild Thing” Taylor. \nHarrison has recorded with Don Dixon\, Bill Kirchen\, Tim O’Brien\, original NRBQ guitarist Steve Ferguson\, Hammond B-3 master Winston Walls\, Todd Burge and legendary dobro player Jerry Douglas. \n  \nAMMED SOLOMON \nDrums & Percussion \nAmmed Solomon has been a fixture in WV Music since the 1980’s. He is in his 27th season as the House Drummer for NPR’s nationally syndicated Mountain Stage and can be heard playing behind such notable artists as Dr. John\, The Indigo Girls\, Warren Zevon\, Vince Gill\, Kathy Mattea\, Daniel Lanois\, among countless others. Ammed has been the rhythmic backbone for past regional favorites such as Putnam County Pickers\, Stark Raven\, The Fabulous Twister Sisters\, Julie Adams and The Rhino Boys\, The Souol Doctors and Big Planet Soul. He can currently be heard with the VooDoo Katz\, Shayar and Krooshal Force\, and occasionally with the band he co-founded\, The Bark-O-Loungers. \nAmmed currently offers professional-level private lessons to WV’s Youth in addition to providing educationally-backed and curriculum-based percussion/rhythm workshops to public and private schools and organizations throughout the region. \n  \nJULIE ZICKEFOOSE \nPennywhistle \nJulie Zickefoose writes and paints from Indigo Hill\, an 80-acre sanctuary in Whipple\, Ohio. She shares its diverse beauty in prose\, poetry\, song\, watercolors\, photoblogs\, stationery\, and even jigsaw puzzles. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has published Letters from Eden and The Bluebird Effect\, will be joined by Baby Birds: An Artist Looks Into the Nest\, coming out in April 2016. This groundbreaking book depicts nestling development day by day\, in more than 500 life-sized watercolor studies. Getting people excited about nature is what Julie does best\, and\, in addition to writing and illustrating her books\, she now leads natural history excursions for Holbrook Travel.
