Movie stars. Washed out rodeo cowboys. Songwriters. Fashion designers. Guitar pickers. Real people. Late-night denizens. Superbowl Half-Time shows. Studio 54. Honky Tonks. Sedona. The Opry. Austin. Music City. New York City. Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall. Awards in the ‘70s\, ‘90s\, and ‘20s\, #1 records in every decade but the 2010s. \nOnly Tanya Tucker can claim a resume like that: one long on living\, not judging\, creating\, not looking back. When 2019’s acclaimed While I’m Livin’ won the GRAMMY for Best Country Album\, and its poignant single “Bring My Flowers Now\,” not only won Best Country Song but was also nominated in the all-genre Song of the Year category\, it was a powerful statement about authenticity\, about staying power and about greatness. But that doesn’t always make the follow-up any easier. \nTanya Tucker has seen\, done and been places most people can’t imagine\, and she’s done it at a pace that would kill mere mortals. A child thrust into stardom with a series of precocious hits\, the iconic “Delta Dawn\,” “Would You Lay With Me\,” and “Blood Red & Goin’ Down\,” among them\, she then released a pair of wild and brash rock records at 18\, then returned to country music in her 20s to ultimately take the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award in 1991. Along the way\, she’s been a cutting horse champion\, played dives\, arenas\, stadiums\, and the Houston Rodeo\, created headlines\, and wrung out the absolute last drop out of every moment. \nAnd that approach to living is what makes her new album\, Sweet Western Sound (Fantasy) such a tour du force. Building on her collaboration with Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings (who co-produced Livin’)\, they dug deeper into the caverns and canyons of Tanya’s life. This time the music is bigger and more immediate\, the reckonings more profound; but as always\, the heart is strong\, honest\, and willing to tell the truth about it all. \n“Kristofferson\, Jessi Colter\, they know I’m a good person and have a good heart\,” she explains. “I didn’t really know them coming up\, though I was close to Waylon. It takes a few years maybe to get through the reputation\, you know? Was it that bad? I don’t know…” She pauses\, then adds with a chuckle\, “But I tell ’em all\, my bad reputation has made me a damn good living. So\, don’t screw that up for me now!” \nOnly Tanya Tucker could inspire the revered late outlaw songwriter Billy Joe Shaver to leave a tribute song on her voicemail. And only the copper-haired icon would think to keep Shaver’s legacy alive by bookending Sweet Western Sound’s journey through the emotional plains of her life with his acapella homages celebrating her essence. \nThough known as a wildcat vocalist\, in truth\, the Outlaw Myth has always been more attitude than lifestyle. It sprang out of Willie and Waylon’s unique brand of country\, one where the spirit is free\, the songs and performances melt stylistic rules and laughter abounds. \nIndeed\, Tanya’s career\, and its renaissance comes from a willingness to expose those deeper places\, to write her own story and draw on writers who have come to know her intimately. It’s there in the existentialist drifter’s postcard\, “Breakfast In Birmingham\,” a duet with Carlile\, which the 9-time GRAMMY winner wrote with Bernie Taupin. It’s also there in\, “Ready As I’ll Never Be\,” another slice of irresistible hard-spun wisdom Tanya co-wrote with Carlile. Carlile’s longtime collaborators\, Tim\, and Phil Hanseroth\, contributed “Kindness\,” a tender and empathetic acknowledgment of the understanding one only comes to through hard patches\, tough fates\, and busted dreams. \n“For me\, songwriting’s a release\,” explains the woman nominated for her first GRAMMY at 14. I finally finished “Bring My Flowers Now\,” 30\, 40 years down the road. My problem is I spit it out\, and I can’t retain it. I always tell people\, ‘If it comes out\, you better get it ‘cause I won’t remember it later.’ Brandi understands that\, puts in a few other lines\, and remembers things I’ve told her.” \n“I’m a Sunday writer\,” Tucker continues. “I’m gonna come over and eat some cornbread with ya\, laugh\, talk a bit and maybe we’ll write a song. If we talk about it\, set a time\, it’s too serious. The whole idea of ‘Get together at 10 o’clock in the morning\,’ where’s the inspiration in that?” \nInspiration for Tucker\, Carlile\, Jennings\, and the assembled musicians was everything. Though sessions were delayed by the increased demand for all three\, when they finally reconvened in the studio\, their passion was on full display. “I just go in and try to do the best vocal possible\,” she adds. “I put all the feeling I can into the songs. My Dad taught me from the youngest age\, that’s what you need to do.” \nYou can hear it in the soulful\, “City of Gold\,” the gorgeous gospel tune written by JT Nero of Birds of Chicago. It’s imbued in the Carlile/Hanseroth/Hanseroth confessional\, life-measuring “That Wasn’t Me\,” then it washes over Shooter Jennings’ stately piano in his “Waltz Across A Moment\,” which delivers the album’s title in a bouquet of life’s experiences. \n“Come and meet me in the shadows of this drunk and broken sound\,” she intones on the track\, voice all hickory smoke\, candle glow\, and Spanish leather\, “Don’t curse your mind with yesterday\, or the love we could have found/ Just waltz across the moment to that… sweet… Western sound.” In a moment\, all that she is\, delivered. A blessing\, a benediction\, an embrace\, a reason to believe when all’s gone wrong. To know how to hope in the face of darkness is the mark of true wisdom. For a woman still too young for Social Security\, it was earned by persevering\, by living. \n“Letter To Linda\,” was taken from an actual letter Tanya penned a few years ago on the news of her hero’s health struggles. “I walked into the Troubadour and heard (her version of) ‘Desperado\,’ and it all came rushing back\,” Tanya marveled. “I remember the first time I heard Heart Like A Wheel with that righteous combination of country\, pop\, and rock. It was everything I wanted to do… I only met her once\, but I wanted her to know how I felt.” \nPowered by a deep well of self-awareness\, “The List\,” a romping kiss-off Tucker/Carlile composition\, is another example of the fire that burns within. With her singular sardonic ‘get in line buddy’ tone\, Tanya impales the pettiness of those who think their judgments can hurt more than her own do. “My old friends have heard me say that for years\,” Tucker says. “I always know where it comes from\, who instigated it\, and whatever else. But I’ve always said I don’t care\, because I know my list\, my self-reckoning is going to be longer and harsher than theirs.” \nStay open\, cause sometimes life and art collide in unforeseen ways. “When The Rodeo Is Over (Where Does The Cowboy Go?)\,” is an elegy for a way of life\, but not a man willing to stop living. Against the vistas of Sedona\, the old rodeo rider lives out his days smoking cigarettes “he can’t afford” and picking turquoise\, an allegory perhaps for so many compadres the audacious artist has come to know. “I was in LA\, the night before the first session started. Brandi sent me a song\, saying ‘If you like it\, we’ll start with it…’\,” Tucker recalls. “I gave it to Craig (Dillingham\, Tanya’s boyfriend) to listen to. He comes back in a minute\, and I asked him\, ‘Did you like it?’ and he says\, ‘Like it? Hell\, I wrote it!’ He’d never pitched it to me\, but Brandi did. It’s one of those songs that just stays with you.” \nStaying with you is the essence of how Tanya Tucker endures. You hear that whiskey voice\, which cuts straight to your most vulnerable places\, and you’ll never forget. She’s lived life on her terms\, her way\, and that speaks volumes for a gypsy soul just looking to sing her songs and let the chips fall where they may. “I’m not a cowboy giddy-up\, kind of western movie\, like Slim Whitman\,” she says of her cinematic journey. “But those kids\, those 70’s west coasters in their funky hats and cowboy boots\, and jeans? You know\, that’s what I relate to\, this is a sweet western sound for them…” \n“I’ve got a lot to say\,” she concludes. “They say praying is talking to God\, that meditating is listening to God. And I do a lot of listening.” \n  \nOpening Act:  Jake Clayton\n \nCOUNTRIFRIED ROCK ‘N’ ROOTS\n\nWhen it comes to live music\, it’s hard to find someone with the amount of experience that Jake Clayton has. Among his many accolades\, besides the four Grammy Awards\, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award\, and was named Texas State Musician. \nHis works\, rich and eclectic\, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today. \nLeo Kottke\nAcoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states\, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child\, flirting with both violin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11. \nAfter adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps\, Kottke joined the Navy underage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel submarine. \nKottke had previously entered college at the U of Missouri\, dropping out after a year to hitchhike across the country to South Carolina\, then to New London and into the Navy\, with his twelve string. “The trip was not something I enjoyed\,” he has said\, “I was broke and met too many interesting people.” \nDischarged in 1964\, he settled in the Twin Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis’ Scholar Coffeehouse\, which had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. He issued his 1968 recording debut LP Twelve String Blues\, recorded on a Viking quarter-inch tape recorder\, for the Scholar’s tiny Oblivion label. (The label released one other LP by The Langston Hughes Memorial Eclectic Jazz Band.) \nAfter sending tapes to guitarist John Fahey\, Kottke was signed to Fahey’s Takoma label\, releasing what has come to be called the Armadillo record. Fahey and his manager Denny Bruce soon secured a production deal for Kottke with Capitol Records. \nKottke’s 1971 major-label debut\, “Mudlark\,” positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein\, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Still\, despite arguments with label heads as well as with Bruce\, Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol\, as records like 1972’s “Greenhouse” and 1973’s live “My Feet Are Smiling” and “Ice Water” found him branching out with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique. \nWith 1975’s Chewing Pine\, Kottke reached the U.S. Top 30 for the second time; he also gained an international following thanks to his continuing tours in Europe and Australia. \nHis collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon\, “Clone\,” caught audiences’ attention in 2002. That evolution continues with Heart is the Hero\, the band’s eighth studio album. Recorded analog to 16-track tape\, this latest effort finds its three creators embracing the chemistry of their acclaimed live shows by capturing their performances in real-time direct from the studio floor with nary a computer in sight. An acoustic-driven album that electrifies\, Heart is the Hero is stocked with songs that target not only the heart\, but the head and hips\, too.  \n“We love records that come from the era of less tracks and more care\,” explains co-founder Oliver Wood. “When you use a computer during the tracking process\, you have an infinite number of tracks at your disposal\, which implies that nothing is permanent\, and everything can be fixed. Tape gives you limitations that force you to be creative and intentional. You don’t look at the music on a screen; you listen to it\, and you learn to focus on the feeling of the performance.”  \nThroughout Heart Is The Hero\, those performances are matched by the visceral storytelling and songwriting chops that have turned The Wood Brothers into Grammy-nominated leaders of American roots music\, even as their music reaches far beyond the genre’s borders. The stripped-down swagger of “Pilgrim” underscores Oliver’s reminder to slow down and experience each moment as an interactive observer\, rather than a passive tourist. A similar theme anchors “Between the Beats\,” where Oliver draws upon a meditation technique — maintaining one’s focus on the space between heartbeats — to reach a new level of presence. The gentle sway of country soul gem “Rollin’ On\,” featuring horns by Matt Glassmeyer and Roy Agee\, expounds on the time-honored tradition of love as the guiding light through darkness\, while ”Mean Man World” finds Chris Wood singing about his responsibilities as a father whose young daughter is poised to inherit an uncertain future. “Line Those Pockets” is a universal call for mercy and understanding over materialism. “Everybody’s just trying to be happy\, so put your money away; line those pockets with grace\,” the band sings in three-part harmony during the song’s chorus\, which emphasizes compassion over cash as the world’s true currency. Together\, these songs offer a snapshot of a spirited\, independent-minded group at the peak of its powers\, always pushing forward and seeking to evolve beyond what’s come before.  \n“There’s still acoustic guitar\, upright bass\, and percussion on this album — things people use all the time — but we’re always thinking\, ‘How can we make this sound like us\, but not like something we’ve already done?'” Oliver says. “Sometimes\, the only way to do that is to get weird.”  \nThat sense of exploration pumps its way through Heart is the Hero like lifeblood. It’s too much fun.”  \n\nMaya de Vitry\nMaya de Vitry’s dynamic and vibrant voice seems to rise out of some necessity of bringing songs to life\, embracing listeners with what Folk Alley calls a “soulful intimacy.” She grew up in a musical family in Lancaster County\, Pennsylvania\, understanding music to be a place of gathering\, a way to spend a summer night by a campfire. She was surrounded by bluegrass and old-time music\, and country\, gospel\, and folk songs. She took piano lessons from her grandmother\, and took up classical violin in school\, but it was some combination of the groove-centered fiddle music of Appalachia\, the vulnerable poetry in Townes Van Zandt’s songwriting\, and the deeply emotive phrasing of Billie Holiday’s singing that first compelled her to begin creating tunes and songs of her own – and it was around campfires that she slowly found the courage to begin singing them.  \nMaya first traveled and performed as a fiddling street musician\, and then in bars\, theaters\, and on festival stages as a founding member of The Stray Birds. When the trio parted ways in 2018\, Maya embarked on an ever-evolving musical path of solo work and new collaborations. Based in Nashville\, Tennessee\, she enjoys moving between acoustic and electric worlds\, playing in the musical spaces between folk\, country\, and indie rock – although she thinks of it all as “song music”. Over the ensuing decade\, Styx weathered the shifting winds of the public’s musical taste\, reconvening for a highly successful 1996 Return to Paradise tour that was expertly documented on both CD and DVD in 1997. With a little help from their many friends in Cleveland’s Contemporary Youth Orchestra\, One With Everything (2006) became a hybrid orchestral rock blend for the ages. And on The Grand Illusion / Pieces of Eight Live (2011)\, the band performed at its peak when tackling every track from a pair of their finest triple-platinum albums back to back. Not only that\, but the band re-recorded two discs’ worth of its classic material with much finesse and musculature\, aptly known as Regeneration Volume I & II (2011 & 2012). Observes Tommy\, “Now you have something you can take home with you and go\, ‘Yeah\, that’s the band I saw last night.’ ” \nAfter more than a decade together on the road\, this incarnation of Styx is looking forward to performing as many shows as it can as long as it can. “It all comes back to the chemistry\,” says bassist/vocalist Ricky Phillips. “The legacy of this band will be that it brought joy to millions of people\,” notes drummer Todd Sucherman. Observes keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan\, “We’ve always tried to explain why this is this happening. It’s obviously a multitude of factors\, but the main one is that our show is really good! And if it’s really good\, they’re going to come to see it again.” Styx hopes it’s a wave that never crests. “Every night\, we go on that magic carpet ride together\,” observes original bassist Chuck Panozzo\, who joins the band on tour as often as he can. “Music is this amazing force that comes from a higher place. DESCRIPTION:Jason Petty celebrates Hank Williams 100th birthday with his critically acclaimed tribute\, “Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes.” Williams penned over 400 country songs depicting the trials and tribulations of the common man and woman. Among his timeless classics are Hey Good Lookin’\, Your Cheatin’ Heart\, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry\, Jambalaya and I Saw The Light. Williams is credited with creating the style that would influence other artists such as Patsy Cline\, George Jones\, Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley. He is considered the single most influential person in country music history and is enshrined in the Country Music Hall of Fame\, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. \nJason Petty gained national notoriety when he portrayed Hank Williams in the biographical/musical about Williams’ life titled Hank Williams: Lost Highway. Petty first portrayed the country legend on the world-famous Ryman Auditorium stage in Nashville\, TN\, for a 2-year run of the Williams’ production. After 2 national tours\, he landed in New York City where he won the Obie Award for Best Actor in the Off-Broadway production of Hank Williams: Lost Highway. \n Since 2001\, Jason has travelled the continent with his own production called Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes. Over the years\, Jason had the chance to meet and become friends with those who knew and played with Williams. They shared their stories of what Hank and his music meant to them and to the history of country music. Jason has translated those stories into a beautiful mosaic of live music and storytelling\, taking the audience down history’s memory lane while expertly weaving Williams’ story of triumph and tragedy. \nFor Williams’ 100th birthday celebration\, Jason has put together a package that any size venue can accommodate. DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Esbenshade Series of Marietta College\nBased out of Williamsburg\, Virginia\, Bruce Hornsby first rose to national prominence with “The Way It Is\,” his 1986 Grammy-winning debut album with The Range. The title track became the most-played song on American radio in 1987 while Tupac Shakur’s timeless song “Changes” builds on “The Way It Is” and set the stage for many subsequent versions of the track. \nIn 1991\, Hornsby collaborated with Bonnie Raitt\, playing on her iconic hit “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Additionally\, Hornsby was a part-time member of the Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992\, performing over 100 concerts in America and Europe. \nThe 13-time Grammy nominee has also solidified his status as a highly sought-after collaborator. Hornsby’s own 23 albums have sold over 11 million copies worldwide\, and he has appeared on over 100 records\, including releases with Bob Dylan\, Don Henley\, the Grateful Dead\, Stevie Nicks\, Ricky Skaggs\, Bob Seger\, Chaka Khan\, Bon Iver\, Brandon Flowers\, Bonnie Raitt\, Sting\, Mavis Staples\, Willie Nelson and more. \nHornsby’s most recent studio album\, “’Flicted\,” was released in May 2022.

SUMMARY:Old Crow Medicine Show
DESCRIPTION:BY KETCH SECOR: Old Crow Medicine Show began in late September of 1998 when a monkey wrench gang of old-time string band musicians\, most of us still in our teens\, left Ithaca\, New York to cross the Canadian border and play our way to the Pacific. We brought our pawnshop fiddles and banjos\, guitars and washboards to downtown street corners across Ontario\, to paper mill towns above Lake Superior\, farmers markets in Manitoba\, Indian reservations in South Dakota\, and out to the streets of Vancouver and Victoria\, Seattle and Portland. Along the way\, we discovered a unique country sound both old and new\, foreign and familiar. We knew we had captured something special. \nThe lineup was fluid\, just hitch up the best available talent around at the time…and if you had a car that was a plus! But right from the start\, it was me in the driver’s seat of that black ’82 Volvo Station Wagon with the flames painted on the side\, Critter Fuqua riding shotgun\, and in the rearview there was Willie Watson riding in Kevin Hayes’ Ford Econoline van (we called it the White Whale). Standing behind the big doghouse bass was founding member Benny Gould and\, when he wasn’t birdwatching\, wily Kevin Ahearn played the banjo. We had painter/poet Jake Hascup along for the ride and Shani Abel\, a sassy Lubbock Texan who sold found objects during our street corner sets. \nAfter recrossing the continent we decided on moving to the mountains of North Carolina to further explore our newfound musical farrago. Once there\, Old Crow lived off the land\, worked in tobacco fields\, made corn whiskey\, and learned from the old-timers the affairs of plain living. Willie and Benny built banjos. Critter trimmed Fraser firs. Kevin and I shared a cabin deep in a holler with no electricity or plumbing (we did have a sheep\, Daisy\, and a potbelly pig named Jazz). We were a collective\, immersed deeply in the richness of Appalachia\, but more than that we were a pack of friends becoming a band. \nAfter a chance encounter on a downtown curb in Boone\, NC with flat pick legend Doc Watson we were invited to Merlefest where we caught the attention of Nashville\, moving here in 2000\, and bringing in tow buck dancing multi-instrumentalist Matt Kinman. Like in Boone before\, busking continued to bear more than just tips. One night on Lower Broadway\, Morgan Jahnig threw a dollar in the case and 20 years later he’s still our bassist. Gill Landry joined the band in a similar fashion in Jackson Square\, New Orleans. During the early 2000s\, as Critter struggled with addiction\, Old Crow brought in banjo players from Richie Stearns to Dave Rawlings to help plug the gap; even Bucky Baxter played a few shows in the lineup. \nNo matter who was on the stage in support\, there was always Willie and me front and center\, our fiddle and guitar lines weaving and swooping in attack formation. Altogether we built a following around our string band revival sound\, finding a growing legion of fans hungry for roots music and capturing the hearts of acclaimed artists like John Prine\, Gillian Welch\, and Marty Stuart who helped propel our music. We found early exposure from both Garrison Keillor and Conan O’Brian who helped fan the flames we’d been lighting across the country with a relentless touring schedule of club dates and opening slots for artists from Ricky Skaggs to Loretta Lynn to Dave Matthews Band to Willie Nelson. \nWith relentless touring and a growing fanbase\, and with the addition of mandolinist/keyboardist/drummer Cory Younts\, who joined OCMS in 2009\, the band began fusing more and more rock and roll elements\, further intensifying the live show and expanding our range in the recording studio. \nIn 2011\, Willie left the band and Critter returned. Adding West Virginia’s Chance McCoy to the roster helped us become a Grammy Award-winning combination\, one that saw us inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2013. \nThe late teens saw more changes to the lineup with the departures of Critter\, Chance\, and guitjo master Kevin Hayes\, and the flourishing of new players like Charlie Worsham\, Joe Andrews\, and Robert Price. In 2019\, percussionist Jerry Pentecost joined the lineup and during the global pandemic we lifted spirits with a trio of songs: “Pray For America”\, “Nashville Rising”\, and the chart-topping “Medicine Man (with Keb’ Mo’)”. Our Saturday night quarantine livestream Hartland Hootenanny was seen by well over 100\,000 viewers\, featuring performances by Billy Strings\, Amythyst Kiah\, Jim Lauderdale\, and dozens more guest artists. The pandemic also brought the addition of slide guitarist Mike Harris and ruby-throated tenor Mason Via. \nIn April 2022\, we released the critically acclaimed Paint This Town\, our first album of all original material in five years\, recorded in our very own Hartland Studios and co-produced with Memphis hitmaker Matt Ross-Spang. The album and title track landed in the top five of Americana Radio’s 2022 Album and Single airplay charts. After Pentecost’s surprise “call up to the major leagues” early in 2023\, Dante’ Pope joined the Old Crow team on drums. Dante’ first sat behind the kit as a special guest back in 2014 and is featured in the “Brushy Mountain Conjugal Trailer” video of that same era. A former member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers\, he brings to the stage more than just a mastery of percussion. Utility player PJ George III also was enlisted. A native of Salem\, Virginia\, and a master on banjo\, accordion\, and mandolin\, PJ is a veteran of the bluegrass and Americana scene and brings a rascally energy to the band not seen since Critter’s departure. Together we’ll be crisscrossing the nation\, connecting with fans who remind us night after night why a life in music is the most rewarding. \nOver the past two-plus decades\, Old Crow Medicine Show has established itself as America’s most beloved Old-Time String Band and one of Nashville’s most revered musical torchbearers. Our travels have included concerts in a dozen foreign countries\, as well as across the United States where we’ve delighted audiences from the Hollywood Bowl to Telluride\, Bonnaroo and the Newport Folk Festival to Jazz Fest. Our signature song “Wagon Wheel” is one of the most widely sung folk songs in history and was recently certified by RIAA as one of the top five country singles of all time. Our influence has been felt across the Americana music genre from the Lumineers to Mumford & Sons. We continue to explore sounds both old and new\, foreign and familiar\, and keep bringing audiences to their feet night after night. The journey that began in a Volvo Station Wagon at the Canadian border in the fall of 1998 continues to unfold in ways unimaginable. Our exploration of the continent’s heritage in song keeps on producing. Until that vein is tapped we’ll probably just keep on digging. DESCRIPTION:Featuring an opening performance by special guest Jake Binegar. \nJohn Anderson pushed himself to complete his vocals for Years\, telling producer Dan Auerbach\, “Let’s get everything because I might not wake up.” \nIt’s not an overstatement. In a risky procedure a few months earlier\, when anesthesia was used\, Anderson was told by doctors that he’d died on the operating room table. His wife told him that it had happened three times. That knowledge weighed heavily on the legendary country singer while writing and recording Years because he knew that his next appointment – just a few days after the sessions — would require the same anesthesia.  \nRemarkably\, Anderson kept his health crisis a secret from his touring band and the music industry\, and even now he prefers not to get into all of the details. However\, his recovery has become his testimony. \n“There’s a few things that I came out of this whole deal better with\,” Anderson says. “Part of it is my love for music and part of it is my appreciation for my family. But the biggest part is knowing that I might die here any minute\, for who knows what reason\, but I know that the good Lord already came down and touched me. There’s not a doubt in my mind.” \nDuring his health scare\, he’d lost his sense of pitch and even his ability to recognize his own songs on the radio. At one point\, his hearing left him with what he calls “terrible noise\,” forcing him to come off the road for the first time in 40 years. \nAs a child growing up in Apopka\, Florida\, Anderson remembers humming along to the tone of his father’s boat motor. He started his music career performing solo around Florida before moving to Florida. He worked in construction – he was on the roofing crew for the new Grand Ole Opry House – before landing a contract with Warner Bros. Records. \nAfter charting modestly in the late ‘70s\, Anderson scored No. 1 hits in the ‘80s with “Wild and Blue\,” “Swingin’\,” and “Black Sheep.” After a brief career lull\, he staged a major comeback in 1992 as “Straight Tequila Night” became his first No. 1 single in nine years. That momentum carried him into the 2000s\, giving him 60 charting country singles in four consecutive decades. \n“As a musician who lived this way\, this job has always been so easy and so natural\,” Anderson says. “I always have thanked God for never having to work\, what I called work. I didn’t have to work too hard at it. It was a great way of living for me — and then it went away.” \nMarried since 1983\, with two daughters\, Anderson leaned on his family to push through. For a year and a half\, through innumerable doctor’s visits\, he fought on a daily basis to heal. He remembers at his most desperate moment\, he stood in the front yard of his acreage\, let the rain wash over him\, and told God\, “I don’t really know how much more I can deal with. Please help.” \nLooking back at that moment\, he says\, “It was a matter of 48 hours I started getting better. And I’m telling you\, I’m not here to be anything other than what I am\, but the biggest thing I’ve gotten out of my whole experience is knowing how real my faith is.” \nDuring his period of recovery\, Anderson got a phone call out of the blue from Auerbach\, who was simply calling as a fan\, inspired by a conversation with David Ferguson (co-producer) about great singers. When Anderson later met them both in person at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville\, they clicked as a unit immediately. On the spot\, Anderson – a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee — accepted an invitation to write the next day. \nThat first co-write yielded “Years\,” an emotional centerpiece of the album sung from the perspective of a man with some miles on him. “I recall thinking to myself\, ‘This is a pretty good song\,’” Anderson says. “But we know there’s a lot of good songs that get written\, and a lot of them never get heard. Nevertheless it was off to a good start.” \nAuerbach kept setting writing dates with collaborators like Joe Allen\, Pat McLaughlin\, and Paul Overstreet. At Anderson’s request\, Auerbach sang the work tapes. Instantly recognizing the caliber of the songs\, Auerbach offered to make an album with studio players like Gene Chrisman\, Dave Roe\, Russ Pahl\, Billy Sanford\, and Bobby Wood. Although he had produced or co-produced his own albums since 1981\, Anderson put his trust in Auerbach. \n“I booked the session and here I’ve got a room full of musicians\, and I really didn’t know if he was going to be able to hear in the headphones\,” Auerbach remembers. “But we got him behind the microphone\, he started singing and it was pure magic. His voice is like caramel magic coming out of those speakers.” \nListening to Anderson’s vocals on Years\, it would be impossible to guess that anything was amiss. Delivered in that distinctive\, rich baritone\, “Celebrate” provides a perspective of gratitude while “Slow Down\,” “All We’re Really Looking For” and “You’re Nearly Nothin’” are some of the most eloquent love songs he’s ever recorded. \nMeanwhile\, “I’m Still Hangin’ On” conveys the realities of a soldier living with PTSD\, while “Tuesday I’ll Be Gone” – a breezy duet with good friend Blake Shelton – captures the joy of just getting away from it all. The rambling vibe of “Wild and Free” and irresistible rhythm of “What’s a Man Got to Do” feel like they’ve been in Anderson’s repertoire all along. Beyond Years\, the sessions also yielded a rewarding new friendship between the artist and producer. \n“John will sing it as many times as you want. He wants it to be great\, but the thing is\, once he starts singing\, it’s almost right there\, right from the first lick\,” Auerbach says. “I feel incredibly lucky that I even had to the opportunity to make a record with John Anderson\, let alone have all this meaning to it.” \nAnderson adds\, “We went in the studio\, and I remember saying\, ‘I’m going to do this like it might be my last.’ It still could be\, but now the chances of that are getting slimmer and slimmer every day. By singing it\, you release the sadness and release yourself.” —Linda Ronstadt \nHow The Linda Ronstadt Experience Came to Be\nIn June 2017\, bassist Junior Cain ran a local ad in the northeast\, seeking a Linda Ronstadt-style singer. He proceeded to assemble a band of players that echoed his love for the artist who had been stricken with Parkinson disease\, leaving her unable to sing or perform. After a few early personnel changes\, Junior decided to place ads in the musical hot spots of Nashville and Austin. \nAfter a few weeks\, Tristan McIntosh’s Nashville management team replied to the ad. It was decided that Tristan’s closest musical collaborator\, Bronson Bush\, would fill out the role as the band’s guitarist. By March 2018\, thirty songs were sent out to the potential band members to learn. \nA few months later\, in June of 2018\, Tristan and Bronson flew to Logan Airport in Boston to rehearse the material\, and then shoot video on day four. It took a tremendous leap of faith on everyone’s part\, but when all the members met\, their chemistry and good vibes were undeniable. When Tristan began to sing\, everyone knew that this was going to be something very special. He signed with Nine Mile Records in 2006\, to release C’Mon C’Mere\, the first of six albums on the label (two produced by Auerbach). Sweany spends a great deal of time on the road\, having played 48 states and much of Europe. DESCRIPTION:The sound of Kenny G’s saxophone is as iconic as his curly coif; indeed\, both are instantly recognizable. His latest release\, New Standards\, the title of his 19th studio album\, fifth for Concord Records and first since 2015’s Brazilian Nights\, could well be used to describe his four-decade body of work\, a vision of jazz that helped launch both a musical genre and radio format. After director Penny Lane’s critically acclaimed HBO documentary\, Listening to Kenny G – which humorously reconsiders the purist critical backlash to his music – and a demand performance on Kanye West’s Grammy-winning Jesus Is King album\, it’s now cool to not only be Kenny G\, but admit you’re a fan of his as well. \n“I didn’t realize how strong the message was until I saw the finished film\,” says Kenny\, who has both the best-selling instrumental album of all time in the Diamond-selling\, 12-times-platinum 1992 Breathless\, earning him his only Grammy Award among 15 nominations\, and the Guinness Book of World Records mark for longest sustained note ever recorded on the saxophone. The feature probes some of the many Kenny G accomplishments\, from his song “Going Home” being used as the official end-of-work-day anthem in China to his skills as a golfer and airline pilot. He was also one of the original 10 investors in his Seattle hometown Starbucks Coffee. \nRecalling his music spawning the “smooth jazz” phenomenon\, Kenny explains\, “I’m proud of the fact it was a new style of music that no one was either playing or writing at the time. And it touched a great many people who weren’t into traditional jazz\, pop or R&B. Somewhere in the middle\, they found something they were looking for and liked.” \nNew Standards continues the musical path that has seen Kenny G sell 75 million albums around the world\, looking back to the classic ‘50s and ‘60s jazz ballads for inspiration\, updating them with new studio technology\, such as the digital ability to piece together songs note by note from different performances. The tracks are almost equally divided between soprano and tenor sax\, with one song\, “Two of a Kind\,” featuring him on both\, duetting with himself\, a slight\, unintended hint of Seals & Crofts’ “Summer Wind” wafting through\, while the wistful\, airy “Moonlight” finds him taking a rare turn on alto sax\, the instrument on which he first learned to play. \n“I wanted to play songs with chord progressions that reflected the classic jazz era of Coltrane\, Charlie Parker\, Sonny Rollins\, Cannonball Adderley and Dexter Gordon\, while doing them my way\, creating new standards\,” he says. \nFor “Legacy\,” he sampled the great Stan Getz playing tenor on a live\, unaccompanied version of “Happy Birthday\,” creating a duet with him on soprano sax. \n“I took those individual notes and turned them into a melody I’m proud of\,” explains Kenny. “I don’t think that’s ever been done before.” \nReminiscent of his global hit duet with a filmed Louis Armstrong on “What a Wonderful World\,” Kenny G expects some jazz buffs night not be happy with his Getz tribute\, even though\, as was the case with the Armstrong song\, he is donating all proceeds to the late musician’s estate and family\, whom Kenny says are delighted with his version. \nKenny performs a sprightly soprano sax on the opening “Emeline\,” named after a close family friend\, while the ultra-romantic “Only You” combines a variety of throwback chord changes with a soaring tenor sax gliding its way on top. \n“Rendezvous” evokes a smoky jazz ballad of the ‘40s with its aching tenor\, the first song Kenny G recorded for the album.“Paris by Night” evokes a foggy night strolling on the bridges across the Seine\, while “Anthem” sports a duet between Kenny G on soprano and cello\, giving the track a hymn-like\, anthemic drive a song Kenny played live with the National Symphony in Nashville in December. \n“Blue Skies” is an airy\, whimsical melody he wrote with piano player Randy Waldman\, a fellow airplane pilot — hence the title — whom he accompanies on soprano sax. “Milestones” offers an homage to classic jazz tropes in name and sound\, while the closing “Waltz in Blue\,” titled for its three-quarter time crossed with a blues beat\, ends the album on a rounded low B-flat\, the perfect answer to the high E which begins the first track\, “Emeline.” \nThe album forms an aural narrative\, which makes it the perfect vehicle to demonstrate to film directors and music supervisors that Kenny G\, the world’s most popular instrumental musician\, is overdue to compose his first movie score. \n“If any director needs a memorable instrumental for their film…” he offers. “I think I’ve proven what I can do.” \nFor the last several years\, Kenny G has taken to the internet with gusto\, his posts becoming memes and going viral\, as he continues to have fun with the whole idea of being his iconic self\, satirized in South Park\, Trolls World Tour (as a frizzy-haired sax player threatens the whole pop music cosmos with his “smooth jazz”) and Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson-hosted “What’s Up With That?” segment\, where Fred Armisen plays a certain frizzy-haired soprano sax player. \n“I don’t know why they just don’t have me do it\,” Kenny G laughs\, perfectly in on the joke. “When I was on the show playing with Foster the People\, I told them\, ‘Hey guys\, I’m right here.’ I can fake playing sax really well.” \nAnd\, as you can hear on the excellent new New Standards\, he does quite fine when he plays for real\, too. \n  \nEnjoy all of our upcoming performances on our new Byrider Stage!\n \n

DESCRIPTION:Formed in the spring of 2006 in Pittsburgh\, PA\, Bon Journey was the first band of its kind. Paying tribute to two of the biggest arena rock acts in history\, Bon Jovi and Journey\, they bring you the music of these two giant Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted bands. The band quickly became a staple in the local music scene\, winning awards in 2006\, 2007\, and again in 2020. They then began playing nationally\, hitting city after city. \nThe real Bon Journey is often imitated by other bands\, even claiming to be them; though flattering\, it is a bit confusing. It seems every city they played\, a band copied them or wanted to be them. They are the first and original Bon Journey and the only composed of original members. From the first song they play\, there is a difference: Essentially\, there are four lead singers in one band\, which makes Bon Journey a vocal powerhouse that separates them from most other acts! Not only with the incredible talents of lead singer Gary Bickerstaff\, who has the range and soul of Steve Perry with the stage swagger of Jon Bon Jovi\, but the high harmony and searing guitar of Dan Newman\, the tight bottom end and vocal of bassist Rob Shine\, the smooth voice of keyboardist Matt Friday\, and the bombast of an amazing drummer in Justin Walker. Night Ranger’s popularity is fueled by a number of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks\, such as “Sister Christian\,” “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me\,” “When You Close Your Eyes\,” and the anthemic “(You Can Still) Rock In America.” Over the years\, the band’s music has also made notable contributions to and been featured in many different areas of global media and pop culture. Night Ranger has been touring around the globe throughout 2022 and their latest album\, ATBPO(which stands for (And The Band Played On) was released in August of 2021.
