DESCRIPTION:Connie Smith is considered by many to be one of the best vocalists in country music history.  “Once a Day\,” “Just in Time\,” “Then and Only Then\,” and “Ain’t Had No Lovin’\,” are just a few of her many hits.  This Country Music Hall of Fame inductee has earned 11 Grammy nominations\, and landed on the Billboard Top Ten country singles charts 20 times. \nA Hall of Fame Lifetime of Singing\nDolly Parton once noted\, famously\, that there were just three real female singers around—Barbra Streisand\, Linda Ronstadt\, and Connie Smith. “The rest of us\,” she said\, “are only pretending.” It’s less-well known that when Connie Smith was introduced to Keith Richards\, he grabbed fellow Connie Smith fan (and Rolling Stone) Ron Wood and brought him up to meet her\, too\, exclaiming “She’s the real deal!” \nWhat the singers she’s been influencing for decades spot in Connie Smith’s performances—besides her genius for phrasing\, perfect diction and a vocal range which have all long been envied—is her fervent joy in singing itself\, her love for the emotional and physical act of letting loose a song\, which is as evident on her recordings as it is in front of audiences at the Grand Ole Opry\, on RFD TV’s weekly Marty Stuart Show\, or on the road. \nIn 2012\, Connie’s singular contributions to country music were recognized conclusively when she received the field’s highest honor\, induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. As the Hall’s inductee portrait says of her\, “Smith’s greatness extends beyond vocal brilliance. It encompasses her song selection\, her connection to great musicians (especially steel guitarists)\, her classy demeanor\, and a spiritual bearing that serves as her foundation. Connie Smith is one of country music’s most admired artists not because of one of her talents\, but because of how they form such a distinct whole.” \nMerle Haggard said\, as he conducted her induction her into the\, “I can’t remember any of Connie’s records that I didn’t like. I admire her sincerity and her spirit and her commitment to traditional country music. If you’re talking about a country singer\, there just isn’t any better.” \nMerle singled out “Long Line of Heartaches\,” Connie’s most recent recording\, as a special favorite. In recent decades\, the appearance of a new Connie Smith record has been a rare\, much-anticipated event; Long Line of Heartaches on Sugar Hill\, is her first since 1996 and only her second since 1978\, and her 53rd album to date. Still the urge to sing and share the joy she finds in doing it has never waned. \n“I may have put off making a new record for quite a while\,” Connie says\, “but I still love to sing just as much as I ever did. I really feel that it’s my destiny; I heard the saying\, one time\, ‘Do what God tells you ’til he tells you something else\,’ and He hasn’t told me anything else yet. So I think I’ll still be singing till I hear different!” \nWhat she sings on this return to disc is the same broad range of traditional country moods\, themes\, rhythms and sounds that marked her remarkable run of hit records and classic country albums in the 1960s and ’70s. Keeping that music alive\, well and in the public ear was an important motivation in breaking this most recent recording hiatus: \n“I feel so fortunate to have been introduced to Nashville in the early sixties. It was a magical time in country music; country artists were encouraged to bring their individuality and culture to the microphone\, not to back away from them\, and the songwriters of the era were just the best. But I feel that the music as it was has been slipping away—and much\, much faster than I’m ready for. The only thing I know to do about it now is to keep singing what I’ve always loved.” \nConnie has always been the sort of singer who\, much as Frank Sinatra did in saloon singer pop\, emphasizes crediting the writers who created the emotionally direct songs she chooses to sing. Songs by songwriters she’s long favored\, including icons Bill Anderson\, Harlan Howard\, Johnny Russell\, Kostas\, and Dallas Frazier (whose “A Heart Like You” on this record was one of the first he’d written in 30 years\, and the 69th Frazier song Connie’s had on record) are featured on this new release. Her own songwriting\, which had been something she’d found little time for early in her career\, came more to the foreground when she began co-writing with Marty Stuart; five of their collaborations appear on Long Line of Heartaches\, including the title track. \n“I had written a few of the songs I and others had recorded over the years\, but I’d never even begun to think I could write enough to do a whole album. Marty believed I could. We found other good songs\, too; it can be a bad idea to only do your own songs. I don’t cut a song because Bill\, Harlan\, Dallas or I wrote it\, I cut it because I think it’s the best song that I can find at the time.” \n“If I hadn’t had Marty as producer and Mick Conley\, as outr engineer\, working with me\, this record couldn’t have happened like it did. When we got 5 of the songs Marty and I wrote coupled with the 7 great songs from other writers\, we got serious and knew it was time to record. The songs had to come first. Then the work was just a joy. \nA first-time occurrence on this album is the appearance of Connie’s daughters Julie\, Jeanne and Jodi with her\, adding striking family harmonies to the contemporary hymn “Take My Hand.” “My five kids all know every word to every one of my songs\,” Connie notes\, “and we always sang at home. You’ll hear that my daughters are really good; they just never had the desire to be professionals. Neither did my two sons\, Darren and Kerry\, who also sing well.” \nThat Connie Smith always prioritized family life over career (and with no conflict about that\, she notes) is one reason she may be better known in the households of long-time traditional country music lovers than some others. She’d taken a break from appearances and recording to raise those kids\, and\, as she puts it “never went back into business in full force\,” though she has been a much-loved mainstay at the Grand Ole Opry. \nIt is a Nashville legend that Connie’s first record\, the aching and unforgettable “Once a Day\,” written by Bill Anderson and recorded on July 16\, 1964 when she was just 23\, became one of the most celebrated singles in country music history—the first debut single by a female country singer to go to Number One\, a position it held for eight weeks. Forty-seven years later it is still the only first single ever to have done that. When Connie sang “Once A Day” in the all-star B-movie musical Second Fiddle to a Steel Guitar the following year\, she was introduced on-screen as “The Cinderella of Country Music.” “Once A Day\,” and her stunning rendition of “How Great Thou Art” remain the two most requested songs by her fans to this day. Connie’s memorable string of hits would include “You and Your Sweet Love” “If It Ain’t Love” “Where Is My Castle?” “Run Away Little Tears” “Just One Time” and “I Never Once Stopped Loving You.” \nThe passion for singing and for the songs\, and the singular vocal precision in delivering them that marked those standards-to-be are fully on display in this return to recording. “If you add up all the songs on this album\,” Connie Smith says\, “it would add up to my personality. It’s me talking again\, after so many years\, with a message no different than I’ve always had. It’s just that I love you\, and I want that love to come back.”

DESCRIPTION:The Joke’s On Us Tour\nLewis Black\, Grammy Award-winning\, stand-up comedian\, is one of the most prolific and popular performers working today. He executes a brilliant trifecta as a stand-up comedian\, actor and author. Receiving critical acclaim\, he performs more than 200 nights annually\, to sold-out audiences throughout Europe\, New Zealand\, Canada and the United States. He is one of a few performers to sell out multiple renowned theaters\, including Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, Brooks Atkinson Theatre\, New York City Center\, the Main Stage at the Mirage in Las Vegas and most recently\, a sold-out Broadway run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. \nHis live performances provide a cathartic release of anger and disillusionment for his audience. He is a passionate performer who is a more pissed-off optimist than a mean-spirited curmudgeon. In 2012\, he performed eight sell-out shows at Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway. \nBorn in Washington D.C. on Aug. 30\, 1948\, Lewis Black was raised in Silver Spring\, Md. Colicky as a baby\, he was destined to be angry and easily irritated. His mother\, a teacher\, and his father\, a mechanical engineer\, instilled the importance of education and the necessity to question authority—lessons that influenced Black throughout his life. He fell in love with the theatre at age 12\, after seeing his first play\, which led to pursuing a career in drama. Degrees followed from the University of North Carolina and Yale Drama School\, with a stint in Colorado owning a theatre with a group of friends in the interim. During his tenure at UNC\, Black ventured into stand-up\, performing at Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill. Stand-up was a steady presence as he pursued his career in theatre. \nLewis Black eventually settled in New York City and became the playwright-in-residence at the West Bank Café’s Downstairs Theatre Bar. He oversaw the development of more than 1\,000 plays\, including works by “West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin\, “American Beauty” writer Alan Ball\, as well as his own original works. In addition to overseeing the works on stage\, Black emceed every show. As the West Bank grew\, so did Black’s stand-up skills. He left the West Bank in the late 1980s to pursue stand-up full time. \nIn 1996\, his friend Lizz Winstead tapped him to create a weekly segment for Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” The segment\, a three-minute rant about whatever was bothering him at the moment\, evolved into Back in Black\, becoming one of the most popular and longest-running segments on the show for both the Jon Stewart era\, and now The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.  Black has also taped four specials for the “Comedy Central Presents” series\, co-created “Last Laugh with Lewis Black” and presided over “Lewis Black’s The Root of All Evil.” His popular appearances on Comedy Central helped to win him Best Male Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards in 2001. \nIncreased exposure from “The Daily Show” generated a record deal with Stand Up! Records. His first CD\, “The White Album\,” was released in 2000 to critical acclaim. Black followed with eight more—six under the Comedy Central Records label. He has received five Grammy® nominations and two wins for his work. The first nomination came in 2006 for “Luther Burbank Performing Arts Center Blues\,” the second in 2009 for “Anticipation.” In 2007 he won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for “The Carnegie Hall Performance\,” and again in 2011 for “Stark Raving Black.” His 2012 release\, “In God We Rust” (Comedy Central Records) was also nominated for a Grammy. \nLewis Black has filmed two specials for HBO\, including “Black On Broadway” and “Red\, White and Screwed.” The latter was nominated for an Emmy® in 2007. He had a regular feature for two seasons on “Inside the NFL” (for which he earned a Sports Emmy) and in 2006\, he was asked to participate in “Comic Relief.” \nIn 2009 Lewis filmed his first feature length concert film\, “Stark Raving Black\,” at the Fillmore Theatre in Detroit. The film had a limited run in theaters across the U.S. and Canada in the summer of 2010. At the end of the theater run\, premium movie channel EpixHD picked up the film for its channel\, along with the accompanying documentary\, “Basic Black.” Both are aired regularly and can be found in the EpixHD on-demand queue. In 2011\, he produced his second full-length concert\, “In God We Rust\,” which also airs on EpixHD. In August 2013\, Black recorded his ninth stand-up special “Old Yeller: Live At The Borgata.” \nIn 2015\, Black joined the cast of Madoff (ABC mini series). Black portrays  Ezra Merkin\, who\, after investing with Madoff and receiving great returns\, brought many famous and well-to-do Jewish clients\, including Elie Weisel and The Hadassah Organization\, to Bernie’s fold. \nBlack has appeared on “Larry King Live\,” “Piers Morgan Tonight\,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon\,” “The Late Show with David Letterman\,” “Late Night with Conan O’ Brian” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” Black has also had numerous appearances on CNN and MSNBC and has occasionally done the weather with Al Roker. \nIn the midst of a rigorous touring schedule\, regular TV appearances and movie roles\, Black has written three best-selling books: “Nothing’s Sacred” (Simon and Schuster\, 2005)\, “Me of Little Faith” (Riverhead Books\, 2008) and “I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas” (Riverhead Books\, 2010). All garnered critical praise as well commercial success and spent numerous weeks on the New York Times best sellers list. \nBlack has penned more than 40 plays\, many of which have been produced around the country. “The Deal\,” a dark comedy about business\, was made into a short film in 1998 and picked up by the Sundance Channel. In 2011\, his play “One Slight Hitch” was produced at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and then again in 2012 at both the ACT Theatre in Seattle and The George Street Theatre in New Brunswick. \nIn 2006\, Black had a break-out year as an actor\, co-starring with Robin Williams in Barry Levinson’s “Man of the Year” (Universal Pictures). He also appeared as “the fake dean of a fake college” in Steve Pink’s “Accepted” (Universal Pictures) and as the harried airport manager in Paul Feig’s “Unaccompanied Minors” (Warner Bros.). He lent his voice to Jimmy in Bob Saget’s parody “Farce of the Penguins” (Thinkfilm). \nIn 2015\,  Black notably voiced the character “Anger” in the Academy Award winning film from Pixar\, “Inside Out.” The film is about an 11-year-old-girl\, Riley\, who is dealing with a move across the country\, and wrestling with the emotions inside her head: Joy (Amy Poehler)\, Sadness (Phyllis Smith)\, Fear (Bill Hader)\, Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and\, Lewis Black. Early film pitches actually named the comedian to illustrate how an iconic voice like Black’s could bring a character like Anger to life. Black\, who’s a fan of all things Pixar\, calls the opportunity a career-defining role. “I knew from the very beginning that this was going to be special\,” he says. “I’ll be remembered as this little red guy who yells and his head goes on fire.” \nAs a long time mentor with the 52nd Street Project\, Black was roasted in Charred Black 2007\, which drew the largest fundraising numbers in the Project’s history. He’s a member of their advisory board\, is co-chair of their capital campaign\, and in 2000\, the Ron Black Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in memory of his late brother. Black is also committed to raising funds for the Rusty Magee Clinic for Families and Health. He’s a strong supporter of both the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Autism Speaks and was honored by The Brady Center for his commitment to ending gun violence. In 2012\, he was honored by the ACLU of Georgia with their National Civil Liberties Award. At the Williamstown Theatre Festival\, he established the William Foeller Fellowship\, having taught and performed at the festival for more than a decade. Black also supports our military personnel and has performed in three tours with the USO\, visiting several Middle Eastern and European military bases with Robin Williams\, Lance Armstrong\, Kid Rock\, Miss America Rachel Smith and Kellie Pickler. \nBlack resides in both Manhattan and Chapel Hill\, N.C. Two weeks after teaching him the G\, C and D chords\, Hobert returned from working out of town shocked to see his young son making chord changes and singing along. He soon earned a reputation among the locals in his community. When the legendary Bill Monroe came to Martha\, Kentucky for a performance\, the crowd wouldn’t let up until “Little Ricky Skaggs” got up to play. The father of bluegrass called six- year-old Skaggs up and placed his own mandolin around his neck\, adjusting the strap to fit his small frame. No one could have imagined what a defining moment that would be in the life of the young prodigy. By age seven\, Skaggs performed with bluegrass legends Flatt & Scruggs on their popular syndicated television show\, for which he earned his first paycheck for a musical performance. \nIn 1971\, he entered the world of professional music full-time with his friend\, the late country singer\, Keith Whitley\, when the two young musicians were invited to join the band of bluegrass patriarch Ralph Stanley. Ricky soon began to build a reputation for creativity and excitement through live appearances and recordings with acts such as J.D. Crowe & the New South. He performed on the band’s 1975 debut album for Rounder Records\, which is widely regarded as one of the most influential bluegrass albums ever made. A stint as a bandleader with Boone Creek followed\, bringing the challenges of leadership while giving him further recording and performing experience. \nIn the late 1970’s\, Ricky turned his attention to country music. Though still in his 20’s\, the wealth of experience and talent he possessed served him well\, first as a member of Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band and later as an individual recording artist on his own. With the release of Waitin’ for the Sun to Shine in 1981\, Skaggs reached the top of the country charts and remained there throughout most of the 1980’s\, resulting in a total of 12 #1 hits. In 1982\, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry\, the youngest to ever be inducted at that time. As his popularity soared\, he garnered eight awards from the Country Music Association (CMA)\, including “Entertainer of the Year” in 1985\, four Grammy Awards and dozens of other honors. These achievements also placed him front and center in the neo-traditionalist movement\, bringing renewed vitality and prominence to a sound that had been somewhat subdued by the commercialization of the ‘Urban Cowboy’ fad. Renowned guitarist and producer\, Chet Atkins\, even credited Skaggs with “single-handedly” saving country music. \nIn 1997\, after Ricky’s then-current recording contract was coming to an end\, he made the decision to establish his own record label – Skaggs Family Records. Since then\, Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder have released an amazing 12 consecutive Grammy-nominated classics (8 of which went on to earn the revered award) while also opening the label to a variety of other musical artists\, all the time keeping emphasis on bluegrass and other forms of roots music. Ricky and Skaggs Family Records have had the privilege of working with many musical talents\, including the Del McCoury Band\, Jerry and Tammy Sullivan\, Blue Highway\, The Whites\, Mountain Heart\, Melonie Cannon\, Ryan Holladay\, Keith Sewell\, Cherryholmes and Cadillac Sky. \nRicky’s first release for Skaggs Family Records\, Bluegrass Rules!\, set a new standard for bluegrass\, breaking new sales records in the genre\, winning Skaggs his sixth Grammy Award and earning the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) Album of the Year Award. In 1999\, his second all-bluegrass album\, Ancient Tones\, won a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album – his second consecutive Grammy in that same category. Just one year later\, Ricky won his eighth Grammy Award in the Best Southern\, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album category for Soldier of the Cross\, his first all-gospel project with his band Kentucky Thunder. \nRicky made further progress with the release of his fourth bluegrass album in 2000\, Big Mon: The Songs of Bill Monroe\, a project which featured an all-star cast of musicians ranging from Dolly Parton\, Patty Loveless and Travis Tritt to Joan Osborne\, John Fogerty and Bruce Hornsby\, and celebrated the music and the life of Ricky’s mentor\, Bill Monroe. The album was re-released by Lyric Street Records in 2002 under a new name\, Ricky Skaggs and Friends Sing the Songs of Bill Monroe. His fifth bluegrass album\, History of the Future (2001)\, a timeless collection of both traditional bluegrass standards and newly conceived acoustic gems received rave reviews and industry accolades\, including a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album and an IBMA nomination for Album of the Year\, once again placing Skaggs among the leading innovators in the genre. \nSkaggs’ first all-live album with Kentucky Thunder\, Live at the Charleston Music Hall (2003) led to an IBMA Award for Instrumental Group of the Year – an award Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder has taken home 8 times in the last decade. The decision to record a live album was an obvious one for Skaggs. From a string of high-profile tour dates with the Dixie Chicks in 2000\, to his position as host of the unprecedented “All*Star Bluegrass Celebration” which aired nationwide on PBS in 2002\, to his participation in the wildly successful 41-city ‘Down from the Mountain’ tour – Ricky has become one of bluegrass’ most dynamic and sought-after live performers. Live at the Charleston Music Hall was honored in 2004 with a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for the Harley Allen-penned track\, “A Simple Life.” \nHe counts the current configuration of Kentucky Thunder among the best group of musicians he has ever worked with. “This group of guys meets my approval every night\,” Ricky says. “Each and every one of the pickers in Kentucky Thunder totally amazes me in every show…and that\, to me\, outweighs any award we could ever win.” The all-star lineup of Kentucky Thunder includes Paul Brewster (tenor vocals\, rhythm guitar)\, Russ Carson (banjo)\, Jake Workman (lead guitar)\, Mike Barnett (fiddle)\, Dennis Parker (baritone vocals\, guitar) and Jeff Picker (bass\, bass vocals). \nIn 2005\, Ricky earned his 10th career Grammy (Best Bluegrass Album) for Brand New Strings – a beautiful collection of music featuring four Skaggs originals as well as several tunes by some of his most admired contemporaries\, including Harley Allen\, Guy Clark and Shawn Camp. In 2006\, Skaggs was honored with a Grammy Award – this time in the Best Musical Album for Children category – for his contribution to Songs from the Neighborhood: the Music of Mister Rogers. Greater success followed with the release of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder Instrumentals\, an album of all-original\, all- instrumental material in the fall of 2006. Praised by fans and critics alike as a landmark album for Skaggs\, Instrumentals debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s bluegrass album chart and earned Ricky his 12th career Grammy Award (Best Bluegrass Album). \nCross pollination has been a mainstay throughout Ricky’s career\, from his weekly collaborations with various artists as host of The Nashville Network’s Monday Night Concerts in the 1990’s to his recent pairings with Bruce Hornsby and The Whites. Released in March of 2007\, Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby (Sony/Legacy) drew from the deep roots in mountain music – adding piano and Hornsby’s inimitable songwriting to the core bluegrass lineup of mandolin\, guitar\, bass\, fiddle and banjo. A major ‘CMT Crossroads’ special coincided with the album’s release. \nHis next recorded project\, released in September of 2007 on Skaggs Family Records\, was a literal family affair. He elaborates\, “If I could’ve gotten my dad into the studio\, this is how I would’ve wanted him to sound.” Playing every instrument and singing every note on the album\, Ricky brought raw\, emotional honesty to the songs. By coming home to the music that meant so much to him as a child\, Ricky tapped into a wellspring of passion that is channeled into every tune\, as though he willed himself back to his family’s house in Kentucky. Solo was honored in the American roots field with a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Folk Album in 2010. \nRicky Skaggs’ album\, Mosaic (2010)\, marked a return to a full band sound that mixed elements of Country music with Beatles-esque melody and lyrics that spoke to Skaggs’ faith\, “making music that is in my head and in my heart\,” as Ricky said. Grammy winning songwriter/producer Gordon Kennedy\, who co-wrote Eric Clapton’s “Change the World\,” was instrumental as co-producer and writer. These live songs were originally recorded when the two music icons first hit the tour circuit together. A string of tour dates coincided with the release\, including a stop at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville\, Tenn. \nWith the release of Hearts Like Ours (2014)\, a dream came true for Ricky Skaggs and his wife\, celebrated artist Sharon White of The Whites. Previously in 1987 the pair won a CMA Vocal Duo of the Year award for “Love Can’t Ever Get Better Than This\,” but White was touring with her family band and Skaggs was on fire with his solo career\, so releasing a full project wasn’t possible at the time. This first-ever studio album was produced by Skaggs and White and features the couple dueting on handpicked country love songs. \nAs a musician\, Skaggs is a brilliant traditionalist but is also willing to mix genres\, recording and touring with many different artists such as Bruce Hornsby and Ry Cooder. With dates in 2015\, Ry Cooder\, Sharon White and Ricky Skaggs embarked upon the critically acclaimed ‘Cooder-White-Skaggs – Songs for the Good People’ tour that featured the trio singing gospel\, blues and country along with superior musicianship. Backing the trio was Mark Fain on bass\, Ry’s son Joachim Cooder on drums\, with Sharon’s father Buck White on piano and sister Cheryl White’s harmony vocals. Stops crossing the country included Berklee Performance Center in Boston and Carnegie Hall in New York\, with tour dates continuing into 2016. With his mother playing piano\, his father playing guitar\, and his sister on the banjo\, it seemed only natural that he would get his first mandolin at the age of seven. By the age of nine\, he was in his first band\, and in his teens he began appearing at local competitions. When he graduated from high school in 1988\, he married and took a job as a U.P.S. deliveryman\, but he continued to play and attend bluegrass festivals in his spare time. He won he Ohio State Guitar Championship in 1992 and again in 1993. In 1995\, his Crossroads Band won the band competition at Winterhawk\, NY\, and he won the guitar competition at MerleFest. He took the mandolin championship a the Vandalia Gathering in Charleston\, WV\, in 1996\, 1997\, and 1999; in 1997\, he also won the guitar championship and came in third in the fiddle championship. With that\, he was featured on the Mountain Stage radio series and people in Nashville began touting his talents. After recording a series of demos with Nashville bluegrass stars\, he was signed to Giant Records\, which released his debut album\, Wires & Wood\, in 2000. “Wires and Wood” demonstrates Johnny’s dazzlling mandolin and expressive voice with a stellar cast of bluegrass legends including: John Cowan\, Sam Bush\, Jerry Douglas\, Jim Hurst\, and Tim O’Brien. Other co-stars on the CD were Sara Evans and Kathy Mattea. \nTo date\, Staats continues to head out every day in his big brown UPS truck\, and no matter how busy he gets with his music\, folks around Sandyville\, West Virginia area can still count on Johnny to deliver right on time.

Danny Chang\, often traveled with his father’s Golden Dragon Acrobats\, was later chosen by the National Acrobats Troupe of Republic of China to lead the various world tour produced by the most prestige acrobat school in Taiwan. \nAfter more than 17 years of apprenticeship under his dad and several years of world tour\, Danny Chang was ready to step up as the President of the Golden Dragon Acrobats when Lien Chi Chang accepted the head coaching job at the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts. \nAs a young entrepreneur\, Danny showed tremendous passion toward the acrobatic arts. His first goal was to reorganize the company from a small group to a world renowned production company. He chose the United States of America as his starting point. Mr. Hagen created 3 tenor roles in the world premier of The Lost Dauphane for Pamiro Opera airing on PBS. He has performed a vast array of operatic roles ranging from Alfredo in La Traviata\, to the title role of Otello for Cleveland Opera on tour. Mr. Hagen is highly regarded for his performances of the Verdi Requiem and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9\, having performed these works with more than a dozen symphonies across the United States. He has received many awards throughout his career including finalist in the New Jersey Opera Association of Verismo Opera competition held at Carnegie Hall\, Metropolitan Opera Auditions Regional Finalist\, and winner of numerous other competitions. John has taught voice and vocal pedagogy at Wartburg College and at his alma mater\, the University of Northern Iowa. \nMARCUS COLLINS\nMarcus was born in a small town and began performing at the age of 4. Marcus has performed throughout the world on cruise ships and numerous stage productions including a performance in Times Square with the Broadway cast of Hairspray\, Off-Broadway’s Altar Boyz as Matthew\, and Permission: A Rock Musical. He also starred in multiple productions of The Sound of Music in the roles of Kurt\, Rolf and Uncle Max. Beyond music he has worked extensively as an actor with appearances in more than 100 episodes of network television and 25 films including P.S. I Love You\, Semi-Pro\, Delirious\, 30 Rock\, Sex and the City\, recurring roles on One Life To Live and As The World Turns\, and a Guest VJ on MTV’s TRL. One of his favorite roles was appearing as Edward Carnby in the video game Alone in the Dark for Eden Games in 2008. \nJC FISHER\nJC has entertained audiences around the world for the past 15 years. In high school\, he had a passion for sports and also enjoyed singing in church. He discovered a deeper love for singing at Wichita State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music. JC performed various roles including Rodolfo in La Boheme\, Tamino in The Magic Flute\, Ernesto in Don Pasquale\, Henrick in A Little Night Music and even Miss America’s duet partner at the 1997 Miss Kansas Pageant.         After college\, JC traveled to Lucca\, Italy where he sang in the Puccini festival under the direction of acclaimed Italian maestro Lorenzo Malfatti. He then created a home base in Katy\, TX before sailing the high seas aboard more than 75 cruise ships worldwide as a guest entertainer. This allowed JC to create a show featuring many different genres of music and world class arrangements\, which eventually led to his idea of forming The Texas Tenors. After many years of traveling and concerts\, his most memorable performance is still one from college where he found his future wife. Jennifer Vannatta\, Miss Kansas 1998\, married JC in 2004 and they have three children. \n \nSpecial Guest: Anthony Mossburg\nSix years. Four original albums. DESCRIPTION:Featuring Bo Bice\nIt’s been five decades since drummer/producer Bobby Colomby and friends assembled the first group to successfully blend rock and jazz into a genre-crossing sound and style. So successfully in fact\, that the band’s second album\, Blood\, Sweat & Tears\, topped the Billboard charts for many weeks and beat out the Beatles’ Abbey Road for the prestigious Album of the Year Grammy award. That album produced three major hit singles: “You Made me so Very Happy\,” “Spinning Wheel\,” and “And When I Die.” \nBut now Colomby is looking for much more as he develops Blood Sweat & Tears into a contemporary voice\, one that reaches beyond a single\, nostalgic audience. \n \n“I no longer want to target just one generation. DESCRIPTION:The year 2015 marked the 45th Anniversary of perennial classic-rock favorite\, America. Founding members\, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (along with former band mate Dan Peek) met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name”. America became a global household name and paved the way with an impressive string of hits following the success of their first #1 single.  Forty plus years later\, these friends are still making music together\, touring the world and thrilling audiences with their timeless sound. \n \nAmerica’s journey has found them exploring a wide variety of musical terrain.  Their best-known tunes\, which also include “I Need You\,” “Ventura Highway\,” “Don’t Cross The River\,” “Tin Man\,” “Lonely People\,” and “Sister Golden Hair” were cornerstones of 1970’s Top 40 and FM rock radio. Yet beyond their impressive catalog of hits\, listeners would discover there was always much more to America than surface perceptions. The combination of Gerry Beckley’s melodic pop rock and Dewey Bunnell’s use of folk-jazz elements\, slinky Latin-leaning rhythms and impressionistic lyric imagery contrasted well with Dan Peek’s more traditional country-rock leanings and highly personal lyrics. \nAmerica’s albums–six certified gold and/or platinum\, with their first greatest hits collection\, History\, hitting four plus million in sales–displayed a fuller range of the trio’s talents than did their singles. Their material encompassed an ambitious artistic swath; from effects-laden rockers to oddball medleys to soul-bearing ballads\, America displayed a flawless blend of disparate genres and styles as wide-open as the great American plains. \nEnjoying massive success early in their career\, America earned their stripes as musical soldiers on the battlefield amidst the excess\, craziness and chaos of the 70’s. The trio won the Grammy® for Best New Artist in 1972 and began\nworking with George Martin and Geoff Emerick in 1974.  This successful team\nwent on to record seven albums and several Top Ten hits\, including “Tin Man” and “Sister Golden Hair”. \nBy the mid-70s\, inter-band conflicts combined with an exhaustive touring and recording schedule exacted its toll on the group. With Peek’s departure from the fold in 1977\, Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell rose to the challenge and carried on as a duo. Shifts in sound and direction\, changes in producers and managers\, and a renewed dedication to the craft of songwriting helped rocket America to the upper reaches of the pop charts in 1982 with their smash single\, “You Can Do Magic.”  During this tumultuous time in their career\, Beckley and Bunnell immersed themselves in their craft\, infusing a newfound maturity into their rich body of work. Their growth as singers\, songwriters and musicians has continued into the present day as illustrated by landmark releases such as 2000’s Highway 3-disc box set\, 2002’s Holiday Harmony\, an album comprised of seasonal classics and live showcases\, 2007’s Here & Now\, 2009’s Live In Concert: Wildwood Springs and 2011’s Back Pages.

DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of Aurora Held-Dodd\, the Theatre Department at Marietta College will perform Annie: The Musical on the stage of Peoples Bank Theatre. Annie is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie\, with music by Charles Strouse\, lyrics by Martin Charnin\, and book by Thomas Meehan. This family-friendly 1977 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical is based on Harold Gray’s popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie\,” which he started in the 1920s.  Little orphan Annie is taken from her orphanage\, and the clutches of evil Miss Hannigan\, to stay at billionaire Oliver Warbuck’s mansion for the holidays. When Annie wins the hearts of Warbucks and his staff\, they set out on an epic mission to find Annie’s parents. Meanwhile\, Miss Hannigan\, in partnership with her brother Rooster and his girlfriend Lily\, attempt to make some money out of this unique situation. The stories become intertwined as the lovable Annie’s story hits the national spotlight.

Their influences range from folk revival bands such as Planxty and The Bothy Band to rare\, experimental solo players like Tommie Potts and Séamus Ennis. \nOnce described as “a young Irish ensemble who look like a punk band and sound like The Chieftains” Skipper’s Alley specialise in gritty\, high-octane Irish dance tunes on Uilleann Pipes\, Whistles\, Fiddle\, Bodhrán\, Bouzouki\, Flute and Harp\, with occasional detours into the dark\, sombre melodies of the Irish song tradition. \n \nSince forming in 2013 Skipper’s Alley have garnered wide critical praise\, appeared on national and international TV\, and toured on four continents. \nWrite-ups include The Irish Times (★★★★)\, The Living Tradition\, Folk \nRadio UK\, Folk World\, and Celtic Music Radio (★★★★★). He is the master of satire and one of today’s most observant writers addressing the human condition\, especially apparent in his latest book\, a collection of his diaries entitled Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002) (May 2017). \n\n\n\n\nBeloved for his personal essays and short stories\, David Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever\, Holidays on Ice\, Naked\, Me Talk Pretty One Day\, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim\, When You Are Engulfed in Flames\, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls\, and Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002). He is the author of Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk:A Modest Bestiary\, a collection of fables with illustrations by Ian Falconer. Each of these books was an immediate bestseller. He was also the editor of Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories. The two-hour radio show is produced in West Virginia and distributed by National Public Radio weekly on more than 150 stations across America and around the world via NPR Music and mountainstage.org. The show\, which is recorded before a live audience\, features performances by seasoned legends and emerging stars in genres ranging from folk\, blues and country to indie rock\, synth pop\, world and alternative music\, and beyond. \nSinger/songwriter Larry Groce serves as the show’s host\, artistic director and co-producer. The Mountain Stage house band includes jazz pianist Bob Thompson\, vocalist Julie Adams\, bass player Steve Hill\, drummer Ammed Solomon and guitarists Michael Lipton and Ryan Kennedy. The band is directed by Ron Sowell. \nPeoples Bank Theatre and Mountain Stage with Larry Groce are excited to announce four of the guests for the radio show’s first appearance in the Pioneer City on April 9: John Németh & The Blue Dreamers\, Edward David Anderson\, Shemekia Copeland\, Bridget Kearney\, and The T Sisters. \nJohn Németh \nJohn Németh had already established himself among the very top ranks of blues musicians and modern soul singers when he decided to break the mold with his new record\, FEELIN’ FREAKY. Németh fearlessly crushes all barriers of style and genre with an album of original songs that defies all the usual pigeonholes. Drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B\, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll\, John creates music that is personal as well as universal\, and owes its origin to no one but John Németh. John’s songs are groove and melody-driven\, laced with thoughtful lyrics and nuanced humor\, and cover themes from social issues of gun violence and class values to the pure hedonistic joy of dancing\, sexuality and marijuana. He creates his songs from melodies and phrases he draws from the sounds of life\, from early-morning Memphis songbirds to the din of the city. For this album John brought his new songs to his great touring band\, the Blue Dreamers – Danny Banks on drums\, Matthew Wilson on bass and guitar\, and Johnny Rhodes on guitar. \nEdward David Anderson \nEdward David Anderson is one of music’s modern makers\, a rock & roll veteran who spent his formative years fronting the revered Midwest band\, Backyard Tire Fire. Known for infectious melodies and memorable messages Anderson penned 8 albums for the band and played countless shows across the US and Canada. Their eventual hiatus fostered his solo debut\, Lies & Wishes (2014\, Royal Potato Family) working with friend and Grammy winning producer Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.  A serendipitous move south in 2013 introduced him to ‘Lower Alabama’ where he found the culture and beaches provided reprieve from life on the road and a second home. He quickly immersed himself into the rich and welcoming LA music scene where he met producer Anthony Crawford (Neil Young\, Willie Sugarcapps) and recorded Lower Alabama: The Loxley Sessions over the winter of 2014. The album floats melodiously on rivers of fiddle and clouds of pedal steel\, on gentle acoustic guitars and hints of piano\, dusted with some ghostly guitar from Will Kimbrough and striking vocal harmony by Crawford’s wife\, singer Savana Lee. The nine-song collection steps firmly into the Americana world and was hailed “A wonderfully soulful record” by David Dye (NPR’s World Cafe) and “A simply infectious album” by No Depression. \nShemekia Copeland \nWhether she’s belting out a raucous blues-rocker\, firing up a blistering soul-shouter\, bringing the spirit to a gospel-fueled R&B rave-up or digging deep down into a subtle\, country-tinged ballad\, Shemekia Copeland sounds like no one else. This month\, Shemekia was nominated as the 38th Annual Blues Music Award’s Contemporary Blues Female Artist. Shemekia won that same category in 2016 after the release of Outskirts of Love. Her acclaimed eighth album\, released by Alligator Records in September 2015\, was also nominated for a Grammy Award. \nThe Chicago Tribune says Copeland delivers “gale force singing and power” with a “unique\, gutsy style\, vibrant emotional palette and intuitive grasp of the music.” NPR Music calls her “fiercely expressive.” She has sung with Eric Clapton\, Bonnie Raitt\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Mick Jagger\, Keith Richards\, Carlos Santana\, James Cotton and opened for The Rolling Stones. \nBridget Kearney \nOver the past 12 years\, Bridget Kearney has toured the world as the bassist of the soul pop sensation Lake Street Dive. An incredibly versatile musician\, Kearney has always been voraciously collaborative\, dabbling in chamber pop with the Brooklyn group Cuddle Magic\, bluegrass with the now defunct Boston outfit Joy Kills Sorrow\, and Ghanian music as part of a duo with fellow songwriter Benjamin Lazar Davis. A past winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, this year Kearney steps into the spotlight with her first solo effort\, a wry\, big-hearted pop album titled Won’t Let You Down\, scheduled for release in March. \nT Sisters \nThe T Sisters\, born and raised in California and now based in the creative hub of Oakland\, embody harmony. It’s in their blood\, bones\, and history. Erika\, Rachel and Chloe have been singing and writing music together since childhood. Their sound represents a continuum of music\, from traditional to pop influences\, moments of breathtaking a cappella to swells of energetic indie Americana. The T Sisters have appeared at Merlefest\, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Music City Roots\, and Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion\, among others. \nStay tuned as more artists will be announced in the coming weeks. Delbert is always working on that second group. \nLyle Lovett has said\, “If we could all sing like we wanted to\, we’d all sing like Delbert.” \nThe multi-Grammy Award winning artist is at the top of his game with his 19th studio album\, Prick Of The Litter (Hot Shot Records/Thirty Tigers). The new offering captures the balance of soulful energy and restraint that the legendary performer has been delivering in his live performances for decades all over the world. On Prick of the Litter\, Delbert incorporates a variety of styles\, and as always\, just enough to keep him comfortably outside the traditional marketing categories. \nPrick Of The Litter blends Delbert’s signature rhythm and blues sound with a newer jazz-influence inspired by Johnny Mercer\, Nat King Cole and other legendary crooners. He includes some upbeat traditional blues (“Don’t Do It”) with a romantic take on Tony Bennett’s San Francisco (“San Miguel”) while “Skip Chaser” paints a vivid picture of the perils of the profession. A highlight is the album’s closer\, the gentle and hopeful “Rosy.” McClinton’s road band\, Self-Made Men provide a hard-driving rhythm section\, powerful guitars and innovative piano\, accented by punched-up horns. Delbert’s definitive vocals and distinct harmonica licks bring it all together. \nDelbert McClinton has been a leading Americana artist since before the genre was established. He has won two Grammy awards in the blues category for Best Contemporary Blues Album; and one in the rock category (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group)\, with Bonnie Raitt for “Good Man\, Good Woman”. \nDelbert’s unique musical style grew from his Texas music beginnings. Influenced at a young age by Tejano\, Western Swing\, Rhythm and Blues and War songs\, he developed a signature sound that served him well. \nDelbert grew up around Lubbock and Fort Worth\, and spent his early career in the desegregating roadhouses of Fort Worth’s Jacksboro Highway\, leading the house bands for Jimmy Reed\, Muddy Waters\, Bo Diddley\, and others\, while making a local name for himself. Later\, Delbert traveled to England where he headlined shows with Bruce Channel (“Hey Baby”) with a little-known Liverpool band [The Beatles] as the opening act. He then rolled into Los Angeles as songwriters began to take top billing\, and headed back to Texas for the progressive movement and blues renaissance that helped kick off Austin’s role in American musical history. \nIf you’ve seen a live Delbert McClinton show\, you will recognize the synchronized energy on Prick Of The Litter that comes from thousands of miles of playing together. Delbert feels that his current road band\, Self-Made Men\, is the best band he’s ever had. \n“Jack Bruno [drums] is amazing. He played with Joe Cocker and with Tina Turner for years. I’ve been harder on drummers than anybody in the world\, but Jack is right there where I need him. Dana Robbins [saxophone] and Quentin ‘Q’ Ware [trumpet] punctuate the live performances in just the right places. James Pennebaker [guitar] is family. He’s been playing with me off and on since he was nineteen. Mike Joyce [bass guitar]\, Kevin McKendree [piano]\, and Bob Britt [guitar] are among my best friends\, in addition to being in the band. Mike and Kevin and I write together a lot. We wrote most of the songs on this album together.” \nDelbert\, Kevin and Bob also co-produced Prick Of The Litter. “Going into the studio with a band that’s like family creates real magic\,” says Delbert. “You have the energy of a live band. We feed off of each other. We are better together. And it always feels like they have my back.” Jimmie Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton are an added bonus on the first track. Delbert adds “I am such a fan of Lou Ann and of Jimmie. We needed a female to do a part on ‘Don’t Do It.’ Bob suggested Lou Ann\, and I knew she would be perfect. I have always loved Jimmie and Lou Ann. I had talked to Jimmie about doing something on my last album but it didn’t work out. So this time\, we went to Austin and they both came into the studio. We spent about two hours and had a lot of fun. They are both so talented.” \nDelbert wrote or co-wrote ten of the songs on the album. “By the time we wrote these songs\, Mike\, Bob and Kevin had been in my band for a long time\,” says Delbert. “We got together every Wednesday for several weeks\, and then we went to Mexico and finished writing the rest of the album.” \n2017 is a milestone year for Delbert. In addition to the release of Prick Of The Litter\, a biography is slated for release in September. He has also been nominated for Texas State Musician\, a highly acclaimed state appointment akin to poet laureate. \nPrick of the Litter is a signature project for Delbert McClinton\, and he is proud of it. “We worked hard on this and we got exactly what we wanted\,” he says. “The songs\, the band\, the production. Everything came together. We didn’t leave no chicken on the bone\,” he says. \n“I did what I came to do with this album. I guess I really am One of the Fortunate Few.”

It could swing with the best of them\, and no other band could come close to Tommy’s when it came to playing ballads. Tommy Dorsey\, “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing”\, was a master at creating warm\, sentimental\, and always musical moods – at superb dancing and listening tempos. Tommy sustained these moods through the arrangements of the likes of Paul Weston\, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver\, and he showcased singers who could project them brilliantly. \nJack Leonard sang with the band for about four years\, recording such fine sides as “Dedicated To You”\, “If It’s The Last Thing I do”\, “Little White Lies”\, “You Taught Me To Love Again”\, “Once In A While”\, and\, probably the most famous of all\, “Marie”. With the band singing vocal riffs as Jack sang the straight lyric\, “Marie” was so successful that he recorded several more standard tunes with the same formula. They include “Who”\, “Yearning”\, and “East Of The Sun”. “Song Of India”\, the other side of “Marie”\, was also a huge Dorsey hit. \nFrank Sinatra’s career blossomed with Dorsey\, and\, with Sinatra’s vocals\, the band became more successful than ever. Frank had often admitted that listening to Tommy helped him develop his phrasing and breathing\, along with his musical taste and knowledge. \nSy Oliver infused the band with a new musical spirit. It was a gentler version of the rocking\, rhythmic sounds that he had created for Jimmy Lunceford\, toned down somewhat and played with more precision by the Dorsey Band. These original tunes included “Easy Does It”\, “Quiet Please”\, “Sing High”\, “Yes\, Indeed”\, “Swingin’ On Nothing”\, “Well\, Git It”\, and “Opus No 1”. Oliver also had a unique way of approaching a straight pop tune\, injecting a soft\, two-beat feeling into. He did this with resounding success in such arrangements as “What Can I Say After I Say I’m Sorry? “\, “For You”\, “Swanee River”\, “Mandy”\, “Make Up Your Mind”\, “Chicago”\, and “On The Sunny Side Of The Street”. \nThe vocalists worked both individually and together\, turning out several hits of superior quality. There was Sinatra’s “This Love of Mine”\, Jo Stafford’s “Embraceable You”\, the Pied Pipers’ and Sinatra’s “There Are Such Things”\, “Just As Though You Were Here”\, “Street Of Dreams”\, and “Oh\, Look At Me Now”. Their biggest hit of all\, the one that established vocal groups forever\, was “I’ll Never Smile Again”. \nThe Band was at its best in this decade. In the summer of 1941\, it outranked every other band to finish first in one of the most indicative of all popularity polls\, Martin Block’s Make Believe Ballroom contest. \nBy late 1946\, it was becoming apparent that the band business was having problems. In December 1946\, eight top bandleaders announced they were calling it quits – Woody Herman\, Benny Goodman\, Harry James\, Les Brown\, Jack Teagarden\, Benny Carter\, Ina Ray Hutton and Tommy Dorsey. Essentially\, this was the official end of the Big Band Era. However\, it was Tommy Dorsey who\, in the years immediately following\, fought the case of the big bands with words and action. Less than two years later\, he was fronting a formidable new group.\nIt’s about time somebody got things going again”\, Tommy said at the time. “You can’t expect to have any real interest in dance bands if the bands don’t go around the country and play for the kids.” \nAnd so it continues. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is still traveling throughout the country playing “for the kids” (of all ages).
