Tickets are available now for the 6:00 pm early show. \nRodney Carrington is a multi-talented comedian\, actor\, singer\, and writer playing sold-out shows around the world as one of the top 10 highest-grossing touring comedians for the past two decades. \nA platinum-recording artist\, Rodney’s recorded eight major record label comedy albums\, followed by three albums on his own record label\, Laughter’s Good Records. Rodney is fresh off the release of his latest album\, “Get Em Out\,” (released 2019) which hit #1 on iTunes. His album “Here Comes the Truth” (released 2017) climbed to #3 on the comedy charts\, accruing tens of millions of streams on Spotify and even spawned a Netflix special. \nRodney broke through with his major label comedy CD debut “Hangin’ With Rodney” in 1998. DESCRIPTION:Happening inside The Stage Door at 224 Putnam Street in Marietta.\nDoors open at 6:30 pm.\nThis project is made possible through the Central Appalachia Living Traditions Folk & Traditional Arts Experiences program of Mid Atlantic Arts.  \nFrom Lady D:  \nI am Lady D! They call me W.Va’s First Lady of Soul. From the age of three\, singing is all that I ever wanted to do. So\, that’s what I did. Like many little black girls\, my first public singing experience was at church. I sang in the gospel choir from the age of seven till I graduated high school. Fun fact: I also sang in a community choir as a teenager that was directed by none other than Bishop T.D. Jakes. I went from the gospel choir to an R&B band and then marriage. This accounted for a major gap in my singing career. Almost twenty years later\, I went back to college and got a bachelor’s degree in Communications. I started my own band and it’s been on ever since. \nIn 2003\, I debuted my original one-woman stage play called “The Lady and the Empress” based on the life and music of blues legend\, Bessie Smith. I recorded the soundtrack for that show\, called “Nobody’s Bizness.” After having formed my band\, MI$$ION\, we went on to perform private parties and events. I recorded five more cds: MY TURN – 2006\, SHE’S NOBODY – 2012\, LADY D’S ROCK ‘N’ BLUES SAMPLER – 2012\, REFLECTIONS – 2014 and DISTURBING MY PEACE – 2020. Did I mention that a few years back\, my original song “Go Higher” was chosen as the best Obama Inaugural Song and Lady D and MI$$ION were invited to play at the Obama For Change Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C. in January 2009. \nThis\, now 21 year career has included some other highlights and lows. Being the opening act for the O’Jays was very cool. I’ve performed up and down the eastern seaboard and with some notables such as blues great\, Johnny Rawls and monster blues organist\, Bruce Katz. I wrote a book of poetry called “Appalachian BluesSpeak” and I discovered the visual arts and began expressing myself through painting on fabric and canvas. I’ve organized my own jazz & blues festivals and hosted a blues radio show for six years. \n2020 was the year of the major shift in my writing and consciousness and I released my newest studio album\, “Disturbing My Peace.” This reflection of the events and collective emotional trauma that took place in that year is all laid bare in Disturbing My Peace. Now comes … re-invention. \nAbout Bob Thompson: \nMoving to West Virginia in the mid-’60s to attend then West Virginia State College\, pianist Bob Thompson is perhaps the state’s best-loved musician and ambassador of jazz. He has touched many people’s lives both as an entertainer and a teacher. \nGrowing up in NY\, he sang in street corner doo-wop bands and originally attended WVSC on a scholarship to study trumpet and music education. After switching to piano\, he quickly became a staple on the local scene with bands like the Modern Jazz Interpreters and Joi. \nAfter some independent releases\, he signed to Capitol Records subsidiary Intima and later to the Ichiban label. Two of his albums climbed into the Top 25 in Billboard’s contemporary jazz chart while four of his releases made their way into the Top 10 on the Radio and Records jazz chart. Those nationally released works furthered his reputation significantly. \nIn the meantime\, he performed in Brazil\, South Africa and Scandinavia. Appearances on BET\, as the house pianist on the NPR show Mountain Stage\, and several tours abroad have made Thompson a visible presence in the jazz world for more than 40 years. In addition\, for the past decade Thompson’s annual holiday jazz show Joy to the World has become a regular feature of Public Radio International’s holiday programming. \nThe CALT Sessions (An Appalachian Music Series)\nGrammy Winners\, WV Music Hall of Fame Inductees\, and regional heroes will join us this summer for this entertaining and informative new series made possible by Central Appalachia Living Traditions (CALT) and the Mid Atlantic Arts!  \nThe artists will discuss how Appalachian traditional music and culture have influenced their contemporary works. All the artists will be performing and taking questions from attendees.  \nThe series will take place inside The Stage Door at 224 Putnam Street in Marietta\, in a close\, intimate environment. The events will be free to the public\, but you must have a ticket. Tickets will be released online two days before each event.

DESCRIPTION:Fans of legendary folk icons The Kingston Trio can re-discover their timeless music all over again\, after a forced nearly two-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions as the group returns to their national tour. All three current members\, Mike Marvin\, Tim Gorelangton and Buddy Woodward have intrinsic links to and experience with the original group: Mike is the adopted son of founding member Nick Reynolds\, who was also his musical mentor; Tim\, a close friend since boyhood\, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Buddy\, who has performed with longtime Kingston Trio member George Grove. Many of their personal memories recall the iconic trio’s performances and journey as folk music made its extraordinary ascent to the pinnacle of popular culture – and the top of the music charts. DESCRIPTION:About Mountain Stage\nFor nearly forty years\, Mountain Stage has stood as one of the most beloved and enduring programs in public radio history\, broadcasting thousands of raw\, unforgettable performances by rising stars and veteran legends alike from the series’ humble home in Charleston\, West Virginia.  \n“From the start\, we wanted to make a show where the music could speak for itself\,” says co-founder\, artistic director\, and longtime host Larry Groce. “We didn’t want to chase trends or build a cult of personality; we just wanted to showcase the kind of art that deserved to be heard.” \nLaunched in 1983 by Groce\, executive producer Andy Ridenour\, and chief engineer Francis Fisher\, Mountain Stage began as a regional production of West Virginia Public Broadcasting before quickly gaining NPR distribution and expanding its reach to a national audience. Bookings on the two-hour\, Sunday afternoon program were eclectic\, to say the least\, with each episode showcasing a handful of artists across a broad range of styles and genres\, and audiences responded favorably to the unique mix of down-home talent and household names. Though any number of early events could be credited with helping to fuel the show’s remarkable rise—some point to the breakout success of West Virginia natives like Tim O’Brien and Kathy Mattea\, who began performing on the series well before fame came calling\, while others recall the show’s star turn at the Public Radio Program Directors Conference in 1986\, when they presented station reps with authentic West Virginia hors d’oeuvres (fresh ramps and hamburgers cut into quarters)—most agree that it was R.E.M.’s 1991 appearance that marked an indelible turning point in the Mountain Stage story. \n“We got a call out of the blue asking if we’d like to have R.E.M. on the show\,” says Groce\, who’d hosted Peter Buck on the program the year before. “The band had just hit #1 with Out of Time\, but they’d announced that they weren’t going to tour behind it\, so the demand to see them was stupendous. I think they only did three shows in the US: SNL\, MTV Unplugged\, and Mountain Stage.” \nWhile the performance undoubtedly raised Mountain Stage’s profile with artists and audiences around the world\, the series remained true to its Appalachian roots\, maintaining the same small\, tight-knit staff and commitment to embodying the warmth\, honesty\, and openness of West Virginia and its people in everything they did. She signed her first record deal in 1983 and charted with a pair of early releases\, but it was her acclaimed third album\, Walk The Way The Wind Blows\, that truly signaled her arrival as a star. The record produced four Top 10 singles at country radio and set the stage for Mattea’s 1987 smash\, Untasted Honey\, which marked the first of five of her albums to be certified gold. Untasted Honey contained back-to-back #1 country singles\, as did 1989’s Willow In The Wind\, which helped Mattea take home two consecutive CMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards along with a GRAMMY for Best Female Vocal Performance. The LA Times called her “a performer of limitless potential\,” while the Washington Post hailed her as “one of Nashville’s finest song interpreters\,” and People described her as “warm\, strong\, smart and generally splendid.” Over the next three decades\, Mattea would go on to record nearly a dozen more albums exploring country\, folk\, Celtic\, and gospel music; collaborate with everyone from Jackson Browne to Townes Van Zandt; notch her first platinum record with a collection of her greatest hits; earn her second GRAMMY Award; top the Bluegrass Albums chart; and garner yet another GRAMMY nomination for Coal\, her Marty Stuart-produced exploration of Appalachian mining songs. Mattea’s most recent release\, 2018’s Pretty Bird\, marked her triumphant return to the studio after nearly losing her voice and prompted glowing profiles from NPR\, Billboard\, Rolling Stone\, and more. \nIn 2019\, Mattea began guest-hosting episodes of Mountain Stage at the suggestion of co-founder and original executive producer Andy Ridenour. Filling in for longtime host Larry Groce\, who’d never missed a show in the series’ entire run\, was a daunting task\, but Mattea’s deep well of musical knowledge\, easygoing chemistry with guests\, and profound personal reverence for the program and its history made her a natural.  \n“I understood the culture\, I understood the music\, and I was just as comfortable singing with the guests as I was chatting with them\,” says Mattea. “Stepping into that role felt like finding something I’d been yearning for without even realizing it.” \n“Kathy’s been coming on the show for more than 30 years now\,” adds Groce\, “and in all that time and with all her success\, she really hasn’t changed who she is at her core. Given the profound effect the show has had on her over the years\, the honor’s not one Mattea takes lightly. Some do so because they are tirelessly searching for the place they fit\, while others are constantly chasing trends. Some\, though\, are genuinely exploring and expressing their myriad influences. Amy Ray belongs in the latter group. Pulling from every direction — Patty Griffin to Patti Smith\, Big Star to Bon Iver — Ray’s music might best be described as folk-rock\, though even that would be a tough sell\, depending on the song. \nRay’s musical beginnings trace back to her high school days in Atlanta\, Georgia\, when she and Emily Saliers formed the duo that would become the Indigo Girls. Their story started in 1981 with a basement tape called “Tuesday’s Children” and went on to include a deal with Epic Records in 1988\, a Grammy in 1990\, and nearly 20 albums over more than 35 years. \nRooted in shared passions for harmony and justice\, the Indigo Girls have forged a career that combines artistry and activism to push against every boundary and box anyone tries to put them in. As activists\, they have supported as many great causes as they can\, from LGBTQ+ rights to voter registration\, going so far as to co-found a Native environmental justice organization\, Honor the Earth\, with Winona LaDuke in 1993. As artists\, they have dipped their toes into a similar multitude of waters — folk\, rock\, country\, pop\, and more — but the resulting releases are always pure Indigo. \nRay’s seven studio records — and three live albums — have charted even wider seas\, from the political punk of 2001’s Stag to the feminist Americana of 2018’s Holler. Each effort seems to lean into her influences in different ways\, whether it’s the Allman Brothers or the Carter Family. One album finds the Butchies on full blast\, another features Alison Brown on bluegrass banjo. \nBoth Stag and its follow-up\, Prom (2005)\, found Ray addressing societal woes\, ranging from the dangers of homophobia to the machismo of rock & roll\, all while channeling her inner Replacements into a Southern punk sound that she has called “subversiveness with a smile.” Ray softened her sonic stance a bit for her next two efforts\, 2008’s Didn’t It Feel Kinder and 2012’s Lung of Love\, both of which felt closer in tone to her work with Indigo Girls\, confronting cultural issues alongside personal ones. \nIn retrospect\, it’s easy to see how songs like Lung of Love‘s “Bird in the Hand” and “The Rock Is My Foundation” served as signposts of what was to come next for Ray. With Goodnight Tender in 2014\, she recorded in Asheville\, North Carolina\, and stepped squarely into the country music that has been a part of everything she’s done. But it’s not the kind of country heard on the radio; it’s the country music culled from folk\, bluegrass\, gospel\, and Southern rock\, going so far as to title a tune after Duane Allman. \nFor 2018’s Holler\, Ray recorded\, once again\, with her Carolina country kin\, adding horns and strings to all but split the musical distance between Kinder and Tender to create a soulful\, country-tinged\, gospel-infused Americana sound. More cohesively than her prior releases\, Holler encompasses and imparts all the disparate aspects of Ray’s influences in a singular offering. \nRay’s vast artistic inspirations are matched only by the deep peer admiration that is reflected in her albums’ guest appearances\, which have included Vince Gill\, Brandi Carlile\, Justin Vernon\, Jim James\, Derek Trucks\, Susan Tedeschi\, Phil Cook\, and others. That kind of good will is something only built from a lifetime of good deeds and great music. \nWhen 2020 found the world immersed in a pandemic\, Amy and her band turned to the digital world\, and started producing and recording singles from their own makeshift studios. “Tear it Down” released along with a video in November\, 2020 wrestled with Amy’s upbringing in the cradle of the confederacy and pays tribute to activists working to dismantle racism. In February\, 2021\, Amy Ray Band released another video and song\, “Muscadine”\, to sing of dogs and what they teach us of unconditional love. In a departure from their past work with elite producers like Aaron Dessner of The National and eight-time Grammy-winner Dave Cobb\, the Nashville-based trio struck out on their own for their new album Love Songs for Losers\, dreaming up a singular sound encompassing everything from arena-ready rock anthems to the gorgeously sprawling Americana tunes the band refers to as “little redneck symphonies.” Recorded at the possibly haunted former home of the legendary Roy Orbison\, the result is an intimate meditation on the pain and joy and ineffable wonder of being human\, at turns heartbreaking\, irreverent\, and sublimely transcendent. \n“One of the reasons we went with Love Songs for Losers as the album title is that I’ve always seen myself as a loser in love—I’ve never been able to get it completely right\, so this is my way of standing on top of the mountain and telling everyone\, ‘It’s okay\,’” says lead vocalist Zach Williams\, whose bandmates include guitarist Brian Elmquist and multi-instrumentalist Kanene Donehey Pipkin. “The songs are looking at bad relationships and wonderful relationships and all the in-between\, sometimes with a good deal of levity. It’s us just trying to encapsulate the whole gamut of experience that we all go through as human beings.” \nThe fifth full-length from The Lone Bellow\, Love Songs for Losers arrives as the follow-up to 2020’s chart-topping Half Moon Light—a critically acclaimed effort that marked their second outing with Dessner\, spawning the Triple A radio hits “Count On Me” and “Dried Up River” (both of which hit #1 on the Americana Singles chart). After sketching the album’s 11 songs in a nearby church\, the band holed up for eight weeks at Orbison’s house on Old Hickory Lake\, slowly carving out their most expansive and eclectic body of work yet. “I’ve always thought our music was so much bigger than anything we’ve shown on record before\, and this time we turned over every stone until we got the songs exactly where they needed to be\,” says Elmquist. Co-produced by Elmquist and Jacob Sooter\, Love Songs for Losers also finds Pipkin taking the reins as vocal producer\, expertly harnessing the rarefied vocal magic they’ve brought to the stage in touring with the likes of Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves. “Singing together night after night for a decade allows you to understand what your bandmates are capable of\, in a way that no one else can\,” says Pipkin. “There are so many different qualities to our voices that had never been captured before\, and producing this album ourselves was a nice opportunity to finally showcase that.” \nRecorded with their longtime bassist Jason Pipkin and drummer Julian Dorio\, Love Songs for Losers embodies an unvarnished intensity—an element in full effect on its lead single “Gold\,” a galvanizing look at the real-life impact of the opioid crisis. “We don’t ever try to write songs with an agenda\, so with ‘Gold’ the idea was to tell the story from the perspective of someone in a hard situation—in this case\, a guy who’s stuck in the downward spiral of addiction\,” says Elmquist. In one of the most exhilarating turns on Love Songs for Losers\, the chorus to “Gold” explodes in a wild collision of bright piano tones\, potent beats\, and massively stacked guitars. “We’ve sung ‘Gold’ as a folk song in the past\, but for the album we wanted to really experiment and push our sound as far as it could go\,” Elmquist notes. \nImbued with equal parts brutal honesty and heart-expanding wisdom\, Love Songs for Losers opens on “Honey” and its synth-laced reflection on the more delicate aspects of enduring love. “‘Honey’ came from thinking about how my wife doesn’t like being called ‘honey’ or ‘baby’—she thinks it’s lazy\, it always rubs her the wrong way\,” says Williams. “It turned into a song about sometimes wanting to go back to when we were first in love\, when everything was crazy and exciting and we were right on the verge of ruining each other’s lives at any second.” Later\, on “Cost of Living\,” Pipkin takes the lead vocal and shares a raw and lovely expression of grief\, her voice shifting from fragile to soulful with impossible ease. A quietly shattering piano ballad featuring Elmquist on lead vocals\, “Dreaming” channels the ache of lost love with exquisite specificity. “It’s a song about two people catching up with each other\, and I love how the lyric goes from ‘How’s your mother?’ to ‘How’s that devil in your heart?’—there’s no middle ground\, which feels very true to me\,” says Williams. And on “Wherever Your Heart Is\,” The Lone Bellow present a beautifully slow-building piece exploring a particularly powerful form of devotion. “I love those moments\, even in friendships\, when someone surprises you or reveals something you never knew about them before\,” says Elmquist. “I think it’s so vital to any relationship to keep on chasing the mystery and maintain that curiosity\, instead of just making your mind up about who or what the other person is.” \nOne of the most tender tracks on Love Songs for Losers\, “Unicorn” unfolds with a cascade of heavenly melodies as Williams offers up an unabashed outpouring of affection for his wife Stacy (“I was kinda thinkin’ I could tell you my feelings/Sit you down and wreck you with some words that are pretty/I could say ‘I love you’ but I wanna say more/I think God made a unicorn”). “That’s definitely one where the physical location seeped into the song\, and Roy Orbison’s ghost maybe led us toward the path we ended up on\,” Williams points out. \nEven in its most lighthearted moments\, Love Songs for Losers bears the same heady depth of emotion that’s guided Williams since his earliest days as a songwriter—a period of time that followed a devastating horse-riding accident that left Stacy temporarily paralyzed. As she recovered\, Williams learned to play guitar and began setting his journal entries to song\, routinely performing at an open-mic night across the street from the hospital. Soon after Stacy regained her ability to walk\, the couple moved to Brooklyn\, where (after eight years as a solo artist) Williams joined Elmquist and Pipkin in founding The Lone Bellow. In 2013\, the band made their auspicious debut with a self-titled\, Charlie Peacock-produced album that quickly landed at No. 64 on the Billboard 200\, later turning up on best-of-the-year lists from the likes of Paste and Pop Matters. No matter what you land on\, good or bad\, that island is yours – the\ndark surely looms\, but it also covers all you’ve ever experienced. \nFor the folk-rock quartet Villages\, the concept is also literal: Hailing from Cape Breton Island\, on the farthest flung northeastern corner of Nova Scotia – itself already flung far – and jutting out into\nthe Atlantic Ocean\, it’s a lush landscape of great complicated beauty\, its rocky coast covered in sea salt and leaning defiantly into harsh winds. \nOn its new full-length\, Dark Island\, Villages marries metaphor to roots on 11 tracks that offer an experience meant to echo a visit to Cape Breton itself: Otherworldly\, euphoric\, sobering\, celebratory\, and reverent. \nThe band – Matt Ellis\, Travis Ellis\, Jon Pearo\, Archie Rankin – tapped the JUNO-winning composer and soundscapist Joshua Van Tassel (David Myles\, Great Lake Swimmers\, Fortunate Ones) as producer\, stepping into Joel Plaskett’s Fang Recording for a whirlwind eight days. Van Tassel directed the band to play the songs fully live off the floor (three takes max) capturing the boisterous energy of Villages’ live performances and making the album a series of present moments strung together. \nThe combination of Van Tassel – whose own work is largely instrumental and played on rare instruments – and Villages – the band has also made three indie-rock albums as Mardeen – results in a type of Celtic music that respects its heritage while taking sonic chances. Dark Island’s opening seconds are comprised of birds chirping and Matt Ellis’ voice stutter-stepping through “Good morning\,” before dropping into a full-on shanty in the form of “Wearing Through the Pine.” \nThe lead single “Love Will Live On” is a gently rolling foot-stomper lamenting the hard times of modern-day life: “I’m too poor to be buying this round\,” Ellis notes whose upbeat chorus offers a\nhopeful solution: move to the country and live a quiet life on “an island in the Maritimes”. \nIn between album-wide kitchen-party whoops\, Ellis pulls his voice as high as it can go on “Easy When You Know How\,” sure to be a live sing-along challenge. The final minute of “Willow” hops into a classic Wall of Sound pop cacophony surrounding a chorus of traditional la-la-las and a refrain of high\, airy oohs carries “Mother” to its gentle conclusion. \nNature is\, aptly\, a dominant theme on Dark Island\, befitting men who grew up in a place wild and beautiful: fields\, waves\, trees\, rivers\, and rocks figure prominently throughout the lyrics\, presenting the music as a kind of soundtrack to Island life\, putting you in and at home. On perhaps the most Celtic-leaning track\, “Play the Fiddle All Night\,” all of the album’s themes are handily encompassed in just half of a chorus: “Play for me the ‘Dark Island’ / till the dew lifts off the clover/ play the fiddle all night.” \nFor the members of Villages\, who grew up on traditional Celtic music\, to create and perform new music in that tradition is no small feat\, and no small responsibility. They know where they come from. They know how it made them. And they know where their Dark Island lies. \nSo gentle the sea breeze that ripples the bay\nWhere the stream joins the ocean\, and young children play\nOn a strand of pure silver\, I’ll welcome each day\nAnd I’ll roam forever more\, the Dark Island \nReviving the Cape Breton sound of their ancestry and mixing it with contemporary influences and instruments\, Villages are an intriguing case study in cultural identity. Escaping the trad-inspired sounds in their younger days through their acclaimed indie rock band Mardeen\, the group has assuredly found their way back to their roots. \nTheir self-titled debut took a deep dive into the haunting and meandering melodies of the Cape Breton Highlands and presents them through atmospheric arrangements that recall the influence of groups like The War on Drugs and Fleet Foxes. Villages won Folk Recording of the Year at the 2019 Nova Scotia Music Awards. DESCRIPTION:Happening inside The Stage Door at 224 Putnam Street in Marietta.\nDoors open at 6:30 pm.\nThis project is made possible through the Central Appalachia Living Traditions Folk & Traditional Arts Experiences program of Mid Atlantic Arts.  \nBorn in Wheeling\, West Virginia in 1954\, Grammy winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Brien grew up singing in church and in school. After seeing Doc Watson on TV\, became a lifelong devotee of old time and bluegrass music. Tim started touring nationally in 1978 with Colorado bluegrass band Hot Rize. His songs “Walk the Way the Wind Blows” and “Untold Stories” were bluegrass hits for Hot Rize\, and country hits for Kathy Mattea. Soon more artists like Nickel Creek\, Garth Brooks\, and The Dixie Chicks covered his songs. Over the years\, Tim has collaborated with his sister Mollie O’Brien\, songwriter Darrell Scott\, and noted old time musician Dirk Powell\, as well as with Steve Earle\, Mark Knopfler\, Dan Auerbach and Sturgill Simpson.\nLiving in Nashville since 1996\, O’Brien’s skills on guitar\, mandolin\, fiddle\, and banjo make him an in demand session player. He tours throughout the US and abroad\, most often with his partner Jan Fabricius on mandolin and vocals. His regular band includes Fabricius along with Mike Bub (bass) and Shad Cobb (fiddle). The International Bluegrass Music Association awarded him song of the year in 2006 and named him best male vocalist in 1993 and 2006. He was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2013. A voracious reader who loves to cook\, he has two sons\, Jackson (born 1982) and Joel (born 1990). \nNotable O’Brien recordings include the bluegrass Dylan covers of “Red On Blonde”\, the Celtic-Appalachian fusion of “The Crossing”\, and the Grammy winning folk of “Fiddler’s Green”. His duet recording “Real Time” with Darrell Scott is a cult favorite\, and he won a bluegrass Grammy as part of “The Earls Of Leicester”. His 2017 release “Where the River Meets the Road” paid tribute to the music of his native West Virginia. O’Brien formed his own record label\, Howdy Skies Records\, in 1999\, and launched the digital download label Short Order Sessions (SOS) with his partner Jan Fabricius in 2015. \nHis new release “He Walked On” features eight new originals and five covers from R.B. Morris\, Bill Caswell\, Dale Keys\, Yip Harburg\, and mentor J.D. Hutchison. A rhythm section including drummer Pete Abbott and long-time bassist Mike Bub underpins contributions from fiddlers Shad Cobb and Justin Moses\, bassist Edgar Mayer\, gospel singer Odessa Settles\, guitarist Bo Ramsey\, keyboard player Mike Rojas\, as well as vocals and mandolin from Jan Fabricius. Historical and socially conscious themes weave their way through songs about ordinary and not so ordinary people just trying to “keep it between the ditches”. \nThe CALT Sessions (An Appalachian Music Series)\nGrammy Winners\, WV Music Hall of Fame Inductees\, and regional heroes will join us this summer for this entertaining and informative new series made possible by Central Appalachia Living Traditions (CALT) and the Mid Atlantic Arts!  \nThe artists will discuss how Appalachian traditional music and culture have influenced their contemporary works. All the artists will be performing and taking questions from attendees.  \nThe series will take place inside The Stage Door at 224 Putnam Street in Marietta\, in a close\, intimate environment. If Skaggs’ burgeoning trophy case full of awards wasn’t already enough evidence of that fact\, consider that legendary guitarist Chet Atkins once credited Skaggs with “single-handedly saving country music.” His life’s path has taken him to various musical genres\, from where it all began in bluegrass music\, to striking out on new musical journeys\, while still leaving his musical roots intact. \nBorn July 18\, 1954 in Cordell\, Kentucky\, Skaggs showed signs of future stardom at an early age\, playing mandolin on stage with bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe at 6 and appearing on TV with Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs at 7. He emerged as a professional bluegrass musician in 1971\, when he and his friend Keith Whitley were invited to join the legendary Ralph Stanley’s band the Clinch Mountain Boys. \nSkaggs then went on to record and perform with progressive bluegrass acts like the Country Gentlemen and J.D. Crowe & the New South\, whose self-titled 1975 Rounder Records debut album was instantly recognized as a landmark bluegrass achievement. He then led Boone Creek\, which also featured Dobro ace and fellow New South alumnus Jerry Douglas. \nBut Skaggs turned to the more mainstream country music genre in the late ‘70s when he joined Emmylou Harris’s Hot Band\, replacing Rodney Crowell. He became a recording artist in his own right in 1981 when his Epic label debut album Waitin’ for the Sun to Shine topped the country charts and yielded a pair of #1 hits. Overall\, his productive stay at Epic Records would result in a total of 12 #1 hits. Additionally\, he garnered eight Country Music Association Awards–including the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy in 1985. \nSkaggs\, of course\, fit right in with young “new-traditionalist” ‘80s artists like Randy Travis\, and helped rejuvenate the country music genre after the worn-out “Urban Cowboy” period. But\, Skaggs put his own stamp on the country format by infusing his bluegrass and traditional country music roots into the contemporary Nashville sound. \nSkaggs’ 1997 album Bluegrass Rules!\, released on his newly-formed Skaggs Family Records label\, marked a triumphant return to bluegrass—which he’s solidified ever since with a series of GRAMMY® Award-winning albums\, recorded with his amazing bluegrass band\, Kentucky Thunder (8-time winners of the IBMA ‘Instrumental Group of the Year’). Skaggs’ label has also served as a home for similar bluegrass and roots music-oriented artists\, including The Whites. \nIn the past decade\, he has been honored with inductions into the Gospel Music Association’s Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2018\, a landmark year\, Skaggs was also awarded membership into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame\, the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame\, and country music’s greatest honor\, the Country Music Hall of Fame. Most recently\, he was awarded the prestigious National Medal of Arts in 2020 for his contributions to the American music industry. \nRicky struck his first chords on a mandolin over 60 years ago\, and he continues to do his part to lead the recent roots revival in music. Clearly\, his passion for it puts him in the position to bring his lively\, distinctively American form of music out of isolation and into the ears and hearts of audiences across the country and around the world. A raconteur if ever there was one\, Lebowitz has long been a regular on various talk shows including those hosted by Jimmy Fallon\, Conan O’Brien\, and Bill Maher. In an interview with the Paris Review\, Lebowitz said “I’m not a nervous person. I’m not afraid to be on TV. I’m only afraid when I write. When I’m at my desk I feel like most people would feel if they went on TV.” \nShe can also be seen in various documentary films\, including the American Experience series on New York City\, as well as Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016)\, Regarding Susan Sontag (2014)\, and Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol (1990)\, among others. In 2010 Martin Scorsese directed a documentary about Lebowitz for HBO titled Public Speaking. DESCRIPTION:Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock met on May 12\, 1975\, the first day of rehearsals for Jesus Christ Superstar in Sydney\, Australia; they became instant friends with their common love for The Beatles and\, of course\, singing. \nAfter the shows’ performances at 10:30\, they would play pizza parlors\, coffee bars and night clubs with just one guitar and two voices. They quickly gained a reputation for great harmonies and for original songs that Graham was constantly writing. They made a demo on a cassette of two songs\, “Love and Other Bruises” and “If You Knew Me” and took it to every record company in Sydney. Everyone turned it down but one — CBS Records — who admired their unique style. \nThey made a single in one afternoon and it shot to number one on the national charts. Air Supply was born! That same year\, they opened for Rod Stewart across Australia and then throughout the U.S. and Canada playing all of the famous huge venues before Rod would take the stage. They found new fans\, but did not break the U.S. market. \nBack in Australia they had to start again and made a record called Life Support. On this record were some treasures of songs\, including “Lost in Love” which went Top 10 in Australia and somehow found its way to music industry executive Clive Davis in New York. \nClive immediately signed Air Supply to Arista Records and in 1980\, “Lost in Love” became the fastest selling single in the world\, leaping to the top of all of the charts. Now Air Supply was on their way. The second single was “All Out of Love\,” and that went up the charts even quicker. \nSeven top-five singles later\, Air Supply at that time had equaled The Beatles’ run of consecutive top five singles. The albums Lost in Love\, The One That You Love\, Now & Forever\, and The Greatest Hits sold in excess of 20 million copies. “Lost in Love” was named Song of the Year in 1980\, and\, with the other singles\, sold more than 10 million copies. \nThe trademark sound of Russell Hitchcock’s soaring tenor voice and Graham Russell’s simple yet majestic songs created a unique sound that would forever be known as Air Supply. \nHowever\, it is the live shows that always hold audiences captive around the world. They were the first Western group to tour China\, Taiwan\, and countless other countries that before would not allow pop music across their borders. In 1983\, they recorded “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” by Jim Steinman\, which solidified the group as a permanent force in modern music. This song was released on The Greatest Hits album which soared past 7 million copies. \n“Lost in Love”\, “All Out of Love”\, “The One That You Love”\, “Sweet Dreams”\, and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” have each achieved multi-million plays on the radio. \nIn 1986 the group’s music was still playing endlessly on radio. That same year\, Graham was married to actress Jodi Varble from Rochelle\, Illinois\, who also was his leading lady in the video for “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All.” \nAir Supply began to tour with lavish productions in places that no one had been before. In South America and Asia they became a part of everyone’s life. In 1988\, Air Supply was asked to participate in Australia’s bicentennial celebration and to play for HRH Prince Charles and HRH Princess Diana\, where they learned both were already ardent fans. This engagement would be one of their most treasured moments in their career. \nIn 1989\, they recorded “The Earth Is” album selling over a million copies outside of the U.S. This album was followed by “The Vanishing Race” CD and\, with the singles “Goodbye” and “It’s Never Too Late”\, again saw multi-platinum success. The following albums\, “News from Nowhere”\, “Yours Truly”\, and “Across the Concrete Sky” all gave their second greatest hits album multi-platinum status as they traveled the world each and every year. \nIn 2000\, a new production company was founded to be devoted to Air Supply’s entire future product\, called A Nice Pear\, which gave them complete creative control. \nIn July 2005\, their live DVD\, “It Was 30 Years Ago Today” celebrated 30 years of success around the world and in that same month\, Air Supply smashed attendance records when\, in Cuba\, at one show they played to 175\,000 people. Also 2005 saw the release of “The Singer and the Song”\, an acoustic album of many of their big hits which received critical acclaim. \nIn May 2010\, the long-awaited album\, “Mumbo Jumbo” –also the duo’s first studio recording in eight years- was released. Recorded at Graham Russell’s home studio near Park City\, Utah and at Odds On’s state of the art facilities in Las Vegas with top session musicians and an orchestra\, “Mumbo Jumbo” was produced by Russell and engineered by Odds On’s Sean O’Dwyer\, whose credits include Pink Floyd\, Randy Newman and Blink-182. Among the 14-tracks\, released by Odds On’s label\, was the first single “Dance With Me\,” which earned Air Supply a prominent feature article in Billboard Magazine titled “Still Supplying The Hits After 35 Years.” \nJust weeks after composer and vocalist Graham Russell was honored with a BMI Million-Air Certificate recognizing 3 million performances of the duo’s hit “All Out Of Love\,” Air Supply’s new song was the #1 most added track on the FMQB AC40 Chart\, and also one of the most added on the R&R (Radio and Records) AC Chart and the Mediabase AC chart. \nIn 2013\, the duo was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association’s Hall of Fame. They have staying power. Just like their hit song “Brick House\,” the Commodores have created a foundation that just won’t budge. \nAfter churning out hit after hit in the Motown days\, the Commodores still hadn’t achieved Grammy recognition. This wasn’t to be until 1986\, without Lionel Richie\, when the Commodores released “Night Shift”. \nIn 1968 the group was formed while all the members were in college at Tuskeegee Institute. Turner’s “Mount Rushmore of Country Music” boasts five faces rather than four (it’s his mountain\, after all) — Randy Travis\, John Anderson\, Johnny Cash\, Vern Gosdin\, and Hank Williams. \nThe giants carved into the granite of Turner’s musical soul form the core of his aptly titled new album\, Country State of Mind. “I’ve always said that any song you hear coming from my voice\, you’re going to hear bits and pieces of those five guys\,” he says. “They taught me how to be Josh Turner.” \nThe dozen songs on Country State of Mind\, including songs from those five legends among others\, span more than half a century of classic country music\, encompassing both well-known standards and deep-catalog cuts. The album shows a singer in dialogue with the songs and the artists that shaped his vision. It’s a conversation — relayed in the distinctive\, resonant baritone that brought Turner #1 hits and five gold and platinum albums — between the past and present of country music. And on half the tracks\, Turner invites other voices — some heroes\, some contemporaries — to join him in the conversation. \n“I knew the artists I wanted to represent\,” explains Turner\, “and I chose songs that exemplified who each of these artists was from my perspective.” The result is a multifaceted album that reflects a distinctive mix of popular and personally meaningful songs. “Forever and Ever\, Amen” marks Randy Travis’ first recording session since an incapacitating 2013 stroke. John Anderson\, who has written and recorded with Turner in the past\, joins him to reprise Anderson’s 1993 hit “I’ve Got It Made.” Early in his career\, Turner often performed Vern Gosdin’s first chart-topping single\, “I Can Tell By the Way You Dance (You’re Gonna Love Me Tonight)\,” and has long dreamed of re-introducing it to a new generation of listeners. Turner plays guitar for the first time on one of his albums on his renditions of Johnny Cash’s “The Caretaker” and Hank Williams’ “Alone and Forsaken” — the album’s oldest\, and darkest\, songs. \n“When I was growing up\, before I moved to Nashville\, I was crazy about sad songs\,” he says. “There has always been a part of my heart that has loved those sad\, lonesome\, and slow songs.” \nTurner chose his guests as carefully as he did his material\, selecting artists who shared his love and respect for the material. “I wanted artists I knew have an appreciation for traditional country music\,” he says. Besides heroes Travis and Anderson\, Turner invited Country Music Hall of Famer Kris Kristofferson to record a new version of his 1973 chart-topper “Why Me” with him. The title track\, originally a 1986 hit for Hank Williams Jr.\, becomes a duet with fellow Grand Ole Opry member Chris Janson. The members of Runaway June take George Jones’ part on “You Don’t Seem to Miss Me\,” and Maddie & Tae sing with Turner on “Desperately\,” a 2004 single for George Strait and the album’s newest song. Country State of Mind also includes songs originally made famous by Keith Whitley (“I’m No Stranger to the Rain”)\, Waylon Jennings (“Good Ol’ Boys” Theme from The Dukes of Hazzard)\, and Alan Jackson (“Midnight in Montgomery”). \nFrom the very start of his career through chart-topping hits like “Your Man\,” “Would You Go With Me\,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance\,” and “All Over Me\,” Turner has immersed himself in country music’s history and its iconic figures. After all\, this is someone who\, as a student at Nashville’s Belmont University\, took an open gate on Johnny Cash’s property as a sign he should knock on the legendary singer’s door and introduce himself. \n“The doorknob wiggles\, the door swings open\, and there stands Johnny Cash\,” Turner recalls. “He and I both jump back\, because he didn’t expect to see me\, and I sure didn’t expect him to answer the door.” \nLater\, as the hits came\, along with multiple GRAMMY\, CMA\, and ACM nominations\, Turner joined the Grand Ole Opry. It was a joining of two proud\, but antiquated\, traditions at the time: social and pleasure clubs dated back over a century to a time when black southerners could rarely afford life insurance\, and the clubs would provide proper funeral arrangements. Brass bands\, early predecessors of jazz as we know it\, would often follow the funeral procession playing somber dirges\, then once the family of the deceased was out of earshot\, burst into jubilant dance tunes as casual onlookers danced in the streets. By the late ’70s\, few of either existed. Indeed\, the Long Island\, NY-based band is revered within the hard rock and heavy metal scene for its pioneering work. Blue Öyster Cult occupies a unique place in rock history because it’s one of very few hard rock/heavy metal bands to earn both genuine mainstream critical acclaim as well as commercial success. \nThe band is often cited as a major influence by other acts such as Metallica\, and BÖC was listed in VH1’s countdown of the greatest hard rock bands of all time. \nUpon the release of BÖC’s self–‐titled debut album in 1972\, the band was praised for its catchy-yet-heavy music and lyrics that could be provocative\, terrifying\, funny or ambiguous\, often all in the same song. BÖC’s canon includes three stone-cold classic songs that will waft through the cosmos long after the sun has burned out: The truly haunting “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” from 1976’s Agents of Fortune\, the pummeling “Godzilla” from 1977’s Spectres and the hypnotically melodic “Burnin’ for You” from 1981’s Fire of Unknown Origin. For those who haven’t had that good fortune\, let’s go\, as Warner Wolfe used to say\, to the videotape. Consider his 2018 standout single “Christian Name\,” which is like Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down A Dream” if it had been “Runnin’ Down A Nightmare.” Or reckon with “Living Half to Death\,” the comically terrifying instant classic from 2017’s Strange Constellations in which he apologizes for “abusing all his friendships and drinking all their beer.” \nOver the past four years\, he has assembled a wondrous catalog which situates itself amongst the indelible tradition of roots-rock misfits like Guy Clark and Lowell George\, with just enough Jackson Browne-craft and Springsteen-triumphalism to make the thing potentially huge. You can’t talk about Matheny without talking about West Virginia\, although it is sometimes true that he would prefer not to discuss it. Matheny is from Mannington\, population smaller than your average small town. Like most of the state\, Mannington fought on the side of the Union in the Civil War and represented a crucial strategic stronghold as one of the stops on the B&O Railroad. The correct side\, not that it helped all that much. They say history is written by the winners\, but in spite of upholding the Union\, history was not written by Mannington. Heavy industry: logging and coal. An oil boom in the 1910s. Comfortable lives and then the Great Depression. Bankers and foreclosures. History was written by Mannington and then history was written on Mannington. That grand old feeling\, indeed. \nAnd while he might not always want to talk about it\, West Virginia is a central character in Matheny’s songs. The dirty snow falling on the Coffindaffer Crosses\, the Moundsville guards\, the doomed shout-outs to Stoney Cooper\, the unhappily married lovers at the Elks Lodge and the tapes from Go-Mart melting on the dashboard all enforce the notion that the man can travel wide and far from Mannington\, but Mannington never leaves the man. The group now includes Jeff Hanna (acoustic guitar\, electric guitar)\, Jimmie Fadden (drums\, harmonica)\, Bob Carpenter (keyboards)\, Jim Photoglo (bass\, acoustic guitar)\, Ross Holmes (fiddle\, mandolin)\, and Jaime Hanna (electric and acoustic guitar). All six members also sing\, and when their voices merge\, the harmonies add a powerful new component for the legendary band. And with the father-son pairing of Jeff and Jaime Hanna\, the band carries on a country music tradition of blood harmony. \nJeff Hanna says\, “It’s like when you throw a couple of puppies into a pen with a bunch of old dogs. All of a sudden\, the old dogs start playing\, you know? That’s kind of what’s happened with us. The basic vibe is so up and positive\, and the music– we’re hearing surprises from Jaime and Ross all night. And they’re encouraging us in the same way to take more chances. It’s opened a lot of doors for us\, musically\, and the morale is really great. That’s important for a band that’s been out there for over 53 years.” \nThe Nitty Gritty Dirt Band played their first gig in 1966 in Southern California as a jug band and by 1969 had become a cornerstone of the burgeoning country-rock community. Their career breakthrough came in 1970 with the release of the record Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy and the single “Mr. Bojangles\,” a folksy Top 10 pop hit that remains a staple of their live show. During a tour stop in Nashville around that time\, Earl Scruggs and his family came backstage to say hello. That introduction led to a friendship and some of the connections the band needed to record Will the Circle Be Unbroken. That three-disc album brought Nitty Gritty Dirt Band together with a number of country\, folk\, and bluegrass legends. Heroes like Roy Acuff\, Mother Maybelle Carter\, Jimmy Martin\, Merle Travis\, and Doc Watson joined the scruffy\, young band to record country music standards such as “I Saw the Light” and “Keep on the Sunnyside.” The acclaimed project is considered a landmark recording in American music. \nNitty Gritty Dirt Band earned a pop resurgence in 1980 with “An American Dream” and “Make a Little Magic.” Those singles also found traction on the country chart\, setting the stage for a major run at country radio. The band secured 16 Top 10 country hits between 1983 and 1990\, including three No. 1 singles: “Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper’s Dream)\,” “Modern Day Romance\,” and “Fishin’ in the Dark.” Bernie Leadon\, a founding member of The Eagles\, played in the band from 1986 to 1988 filling a vacancy by longtime member John McEuen. \nWith so much material to work with\, the band is making it a point to shuffle the set lists more often\, meaning that this isn’t the same Dirt Band show from years past. “We’re fortunate that we’ve got a deep songbook. That’s been on our list\, to resurrect some of the tunes we haven’t done in a while\, in addition to some new stuff\,” Hanna says. \nAt the peak of their country career\, the band toured Europe with Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash\, who hinted that they’d love to appear on a sequel to Will the Circle Be Unbroken\, if the band ever decided to make one. That gesture convinced the band to get back in the studio to record another all-star album. Circle Volume II featured Johnny and June\, as well as Rosanne Cash\, Emmylou Harris\, Levon Helm\, John Hiatt\, Bruce Hornsby\, John Denver\, Ricky Skaggs\, New Grass Revival\, and many other marquee names – not to mention encore performances by Roy Acuff\, Jimmy Martin\, and Earl Scruggs. Released in 1989\, the album won three Grammys and a CMA Award for Album of the Year. \nAs the country music landscape shifted toward a youth market\, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band kept on touring and recording. They played on two projects by The Chieftains\, cut a song with Karla Bonoff for an album dedicated to the 1996 Olympics\, and contributed “Maybe Baby” to a Buddy Holly tribute\, Not Fade Away. Another collaborative album\, Will the Circle Be Unbroken\, Volume III\, arrived in 2003. Soon after\, the band earned an additional Grammy for “Earl’s Breakdown\,” which they recorded with Earl Scruggs\, Randy Scruggs\, Vassar Clements and Jerry Douglas. Meanwhile\, both “Mr. Bojangles” and Will the Circle Be Unbroken were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. \nThe Nitty Gritty Dirt Band took a moment to acknowledge their incredible history by filming a 50th anniversary concert event at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Guests for that Circlin’ Back special included early Dirt Band member Jackson Browne\, Sam Bush\, Rodney Crowell\, Vince Gill\, Alison Krauss\, John Prine\, Jerry Douglas\, Byron House\, Jerry Jeff Walker\, and longtime Dirt Band member Jimmy Ibbotson. The concert aired as a nation-wide PBS Pledge special in 2016 and won a regional Emmy for Special Event Coverage. Today\, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band consists of Jeff Hanna\, Jimmie Fadden\, Bob Carpenter\, for years known as “the new guy\,” and Jim Photoglo\, a friend of the band whose credits include cowriting “Fishin’ in the Dark”\, as well as touring and recording with Carole King\, Dan Fogelberg\, and Vince Gill. Newest members Jaime Hanna and Ross Holmes also bring years of experience to the band. Hanna toured and recorded with The Mavericks and Gary Allan\, while Holmes toured and recorded with Mumford & Sons and Bruce Hornsby. \n“The energy these days is so up — and our fans have responded in a really great way\,” Hanna says. “As a fan of other bands\, I know how complicated it can be when members come and go. You can either embrace that or you don’t. Our fans are really gracious and I appreciate that. It’s been a really good run and there’s a lot of daylight ahead of us.” \n  \nMegan Bee\nSinger-songwriter Megan Bee writes with an unquenchable wanderlust and a deep love for the land. Her fourth studio album “Cottonwood” has been called “as real as it gets – a raw and real telling of engaging\, relatable stories.” Based in Athens\, Ohio and frequently roaming the country\, her music is influenced by the collision of Appalachian folk and modern songwriting. She is a blend of distinctly homespun vocals\, acoustic simplicity\, yearning soulfulness\, and winsome storytelling. DESCRIPTION:The Eagles founding member\, the late Glenn Frey\, knew what he was saying when he dubbed Little River Band “the best singing band in the world.” The current lineup of LRB takes that accolade to heart each and every time they perform. \nThrough the ‘70’s and ‘80’s\, LRB enjoyed huge chart success with multi-platinum albums and chart topping hits like: \n\n“Reminiscing\,” “Cool Change\,” “Lonesome Loser\,” “The Night Owls\,” “Take It Easy On Me\,” “Help Is on Its Way\,” “Happy Anniversary\,”  “We Two\,” “Man On Your Mind\,” “The Other Guy\,” and “It’s A Long Way There.” \nWorldwide album and CD sales now top 30 million. And in 1982 LRB set a record for having had Top 10 hits for 6 consecutive years – In fact\, they were the very first band to achieve that remarkable plateau! According to BMI\, “Reminiscing” has garnered rare status with over 5 million air plays on American radio\, and “Lady” is close behind with over 4 million air plays. \nBassist/vocalist Wayne Nelson joined the band in 1980\, and worked alongside founding members with some of the most distinctive harmonies and vocal abilities\, creating the unique LRB sound. In 1981\, Nelson was recognized by world renowned Beatles producer Sir George Martin whom\, while producing ‘Time Exposure’\, chose Nelson to record lead vocals on two of the band’s biggest hits\, “The Night Owls” and “Take It Easy On Me.” Later that same year\, guitarist extraordinaire Stephen Housden joined LRB bringing a rock element into the band’s sound and helped contribute to their string of Top 10 hits. As band members departed one by one\, Housden and Nelson worked together to bring LRB into the new millennium.    \nTo date\, Nelson’s vocal and bass guitar talents are included on 23 Little River Band Albums/CD’s.  Although Housden has retired from touring\, LRB continues to perform to sold out audiences\, and Stephen continues to write and participate in all things Little River Band.  \nIn 2004 LRB was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame at the 18th Annual ARIA Music Awards. And in September 2015\, the band was awarded Casino Entertainer of the Year at the G2E Gaming Expo in Las Vegas Nevada.  \nTurning the page brings us to the current lineup of Little River Band…  \nKeyboardist Chris Marion is a Dove Award winning producer. Chris is the creator of all the orchestral arrangements and charts on The Big Box. It is amazing to watch him play\, sing\, and conduct from his riser!  \nLead Guitarist Rich Herring is a highly skilled player\, singer\, and producer of many Nashville artists…not to mention a great songwriter. He and Wayne have co-produced every LRB project since he joined the band.  \nDrummer Ryan Ricks has locked down the rhythm section\, and rounds out the vocals with his incredible range. Great singing drummers are rare…and LRB is lucky to have Ryan as part of that all-important vocal blend.  \nNashville Guitarist Colin Whinnery plays rhythm and lead guitar\, and shares lead vocal duties with Wayne. He brings a brand new voice and a fresh outlook to the rhythm section.  \nEarly 2014 saw the release of Little River Band’s\, ‘Cuts Like a Diamond\,’ on Frontiers Records.  “What If You’re Wrong\,” went to #1 and stayed there for 3 weeks says Jim Shoe of CLASSX Radio.  “Forever You\, Forever Me\,” and “You Dream\, I’ll Drive\,” both climbed into the station’s TOP 3.   \nIn November of 2016\, LRB released\, ‘The Hits…Revisited\,’ on Wurld Records –  a CD consisting of 9 re-recorded hits along with 2 new songs\, written by Wayne\, Chris\, and Rich.   Kris Kristofferson attended one of their concerts in California. He came backstage after the concert and he told LRB that their harmonies are “better than the Beatles.”  \nMay of 2017 brought the release of ‘The Big Box’ –  a box set consisting of 6 disc’s and featuring a DVD with live footage from their 40th Anniversary Tour. \nIn 2020\, lead singer and bass player Wayne Nelson celebrated a personal and professional milestone of being a member of Little River Band for 40 years. That makes Wayne Nelson the longest standing member in the history of LRB. In partnership with Time Life\, the band released a “Live” orchestral accompanied CD of the hits called “Black Tie.” This masterpiece of audio golden nuggets continues to thrill and sooth today. \nIn 2021\, the CD Fan Favorites was released to the fans after they voted on their favorite songs from albums released since the year 2000. Who can forget the struggling alcoholic in “Little Rock” or the devoted couple celebrated in “Love\, Me?” On his new album Scars\, Raye is once again wrapping his distinctive voice around a compelling collection of tunes\, but this time in addition to writing nearly every song on the 14-track set\, Raye has also embarked on a new musical direction and has enlisted Miranda Lambert\, Vince Gill and the Black Keys Dan Auerbach to join the journey. \n“I’d thought about doing an Americana record for years because\, to me\, Americana means no rules\,” Raye says. “Americana is kind of country\, kind of bluegrass\, kind of folk\, kind of R&B. It’s a bold musical manifesto that sees the veteran hitmaker delivering an eclectic set filled with memorable stories and engaging melodic textures. “Fergie and I talked about it and I said\, ‘I want it to be just really different. I want there to be songs on there that sound like Collin Raye and what you might expect\, but I want there to be stuff that no one would expect as well\,’” Raye says.  “The more we talked about it\, he said\, ‘I really don’t want to cut anything that you didn’t write.’ And I was like\, ‘Wow! Really?’” \nAs a result\, Raye wrote or co-wrote 12 of the 14 tracks on Scars. There are only two outside cuts and they came from the pen of his brother Scotty Wray (the original spelling of the family surname).  “Most of the stuff I wrote was new\, written just for this record\, and for that reason\, I’m extremely proud of it because it’s very personal to me\,” says the 10-time Male Vocalist of the Year nominee (ACM and CMA). “Instead of just being the singer of someone else’s words\, I’m the singer of my own words. I’ve always liked writing\, but I was never prolific. I was never one of those guys who wrote two or three times a week.  If you look at my Sony albums\, I would always have one or two cuts on there\, but I never wrote half or more of an album so this was a definite turn for me. I had to really work for this\, roll my sleeves up and prove to myself that I’m a good writer. I’m really happy with it. This was such a fun record to make and I’ve never felt so creative on any album.” \nThat is saying a lot\, considering Raye has already amassed an impressive body of work. Since signing with Epic Records in 1990\, Raye has placed more than 30 singles on the chart\, including such No. 1 hits as “Love\, Me\, “In This Life\,” “My Kind of Girl” and “I Can Still Feel You.” His debut album\, All I Can Be\, was the first of four consecutive albums released by Raye to achieve platinum certification in the United States\, signifying sales of one million copies each. “Little Red Rodeo\,” “That’s My Story\,” “I Think About You\,” “One Boy\, One Girl” and “Not That Different” are among the hits that have kept him busy on the road. \nProceeds from this concert will benefit Washington County foster children and foster parents.\n“Our vision for this benefit concert is to assist foster parents by providing funding to be used for normal childhood activities not covered by county funds\, in hopes of enhancing these children’s lives.” \n“Foster/adoptive caregivers are concerned individuals who are dedicated to providing the needs of Washington County’s children whose lives have been disrupted due to abuse and neglect. Without these committed individuals\, abused and neglected children would not have a safe place to call home.” \n  \nJake Binegar\nJake Binegar is a country music artist from Southeastern Ohio. His music is a mix of Appalachian mountain music with a touch of that Nashville twang. He started playing guitar at the age of 13 and leading country bands at the age of 18.
