DESCRIPTION:The year 2015 marked the 45th Anniversary of perennial classic-rock favorite\, America. Founding members\, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (along with former band mate Dan Peek) met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name”. America became a global household name and paved the way with an impressive string of hits following the success of their first #1 single.  Forty plus years later\, these friends are still making music together\, touring the world and thrilling audiences with their timeless sound. \n \nAmerica’s journey has found them exploring a wide variety of musical terrain.  Their best-known tunes\, which also include “I Need You\,” “Ventura Highway\,” “Don’t Cross The River\,” “Tin Man\,” “Lonely People\,” and “Sister Golden Hair” were cornerstones of 1970’s Top 40 and FM rock radio. Yet beyond their impressive catalog of hits\, listeners would discover there was always much more to America than surface perceptions. The combination of Gerry Beckley’s melodic pop rock and Dewey Bunnell’s use of folk-jazz elements\, slinky Latin-leaning rhythms and impressionistic lyric imagery contrasted well with Dan Peek’s more traditional country-rock leanings and highly personal lyrics. \nAmerica’s albums–six certified gold and/or platinum\, with their first greatest hits collection\, History\, hitting four plus million in sales–displayed a fuller range of the trio’s talents than did their singles. Their material encompassed an ambitious artistic swath; from effects-laden rockers to oddball medleys to soul-bearing ballads\, America displayed a flawless blend of disparate genres and styles as wide-open as the great American plains. \nEnjoying massive success early in their career\, America earned their stripes as musical soldiers on the battlefield amidst the excess\, craziness and chaos of the 70’s. The trio won the Grammy® for Best New Artist in 1972 and began\nworking with George Martin and Geoff Emerick in 1974.  This successful team\nwent on to record seven albums and several Top Ten hits\, including “Tin Man” and “Sister Golden Hair”. \nBy the mid-70s\, inter-band conflicts combined with an exhaustive touring and recording schedule exacted its toll on the group. With Peek’s departure from the fold in 1977\, Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell rose to the challenge and carried on as a duo. Shifts in sound and direction\, changes in producers and managers\, and a renewed dedication to the craft of songwriting helped rocket America to the upper reaches of the pop charts in 1982 with their smash single\, “You Can Do Magic.”  During this tumultuous time in their career\, Beckley and Bunnell immersed themselves in their craft\, infusing a newfound maturity into their rich body of work. Their growth as singers\, songwriters and musicians has continued into the present day as illustrated by landmark releases such as 2000’s Highway 3-disc box set\, 2002’s Holiday Harmony\, an album comprised of seasonal classics and live showcases\, 2007’s Here & Now\, 2009’s Live In Concert: Wildwood Springs and 2011’s Back Pages.

DESCRIPTION:Scotty McCreery is currently rising up the charts with his smash hit song “Five More Minutes\,” which has already earned 30 million streams and sold 100\,000 downloads. He made history in 2011 as both the first country artist and the youngest male artist of any genre to debut his first studio album\, the Platinum-certified Clear as Day\, at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200 album chart. He has gone on to see all three of his albums debut at No. 1 on a Billboard album chart\, with current combined sales nearing 3 million copies. He’s earned one Gold single and three Platinum singles and achieved two Top Ten hits with “Feelin’ It” and “See You Tonight.” The latter song earned McCreery both his first BMI Award for writing one of the Top 50 Country Songs of 2015 and his first Music Row No. 1 Challenge Coin. I was hooked\, and soon after\, I had a strict rehearsal schedule that my dad made me stick with.” Growing up\, Cole was attracted to a wide-range of music\, and considers BTO\, Fleetwood Mac\, John Mayer\, Keith Urban and Shania Twain as some of her earliest influences. \nNow\, Cole is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and has spent most of this year working on her EP to be released in June 2018. Proceeds from this event will assist the O’Neill Center in continuing to provide valuable seniors services in our community! \n  \nPerformers: \n \nChasiti Murphy\, 19 years old and a 2017 graduate from Waterford\, Ohio. Chasiti has been singing since she was able to talk and has continued to follow her love for music throughout her whole life! She has been in several talent shows\, choir concerts and anything associated with music! She is currently a child care provider at Sandhill Childcare in Reno\, Ohio and plans to go to college to get a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education to become a Kindergarten teacher. “Although\, no matter what I pursue in life…music and singing will always be a part of me\, wherever life takes me\,” says Chasiti! \n  \n \nJohn Kunze\, a local country music singer/songwriter originally from Parkersburg\, WV and currently living in Belpre\, Ohio. John is the 2016 West Virginia/Ohio State winner of the local and state rounds of the country’s largest country music competition\, the Country Showdown. His musical influence comes from his love of the outdoors\, hard work\, friends and family. John’s favorite part of playing music is meeting new people\, which he considers friends and listening to their stories and experience. \nJohn is also a new Nashville recording artist with plans to release his first CD into the national country music market in 2018. \n  \n \nThe Steve Hussey Band\, a singer/songwriter and producer from Washington\, West Virginia. Steve has been playing professionally for almost 20 years in various bands including Stuck on Amber\, The Steve Hussey Band\, and Luvbox. He has entertained clubs\, fairs and festivals\, and private parties all over the east coast. \nHe bought a Yamaha FG acoustic guitar and an Eagles book of chords when he was 19. SUMMARY:The Romeros
DESCRIPTION:Known to millions as “The Royal Family of the Guitar\,” the Romeros were founded by the legendary Celedonio Romero with his sons Celin\, Pepe and Angel in 1958. The Quartet went through natural transformations\, and today consists of the second (Celin & Pepe) and third generations (Lito & Celino). To have so many virtuosi of the same instrument in one family is unique in the world of musical performance\, and in the realm of the classical guitar it is absolutely without precedent. With a 55-year plus history\, The Romeros have built an enviable discography and their achievements have not gone unnoticed. In February of 2007\, The Romeros were granted The Recording Academy’s President’s Merit Award from the Grammys in honor of their artistic achievements.

DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of Aurora Held-Dodd\, the Theatre Department at Marietta College will perform Annie: The Musical on the stage of Peoples Bank Theatre. Annie is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie\, with music by Charles Strouse\, lyrics by Martin Charnin\, and book by Thomas Meehan. This family-friendly 1977 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical is based on Harold Gray’s popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie\,” which he started in the 1920s.  Little orphan Annie is taken from her orphanage\, and the clutches of evil Miss Hannigan\, to stay at billionaire Oliver Warbuck’s mansion for the holidays. When Annie wins the hearts of Warbucks and his staff\, they set out on an epic mission to find Annie’s parents. Meanwhile\, Miss Hannigan\, in partnership with her brother Rooster and his girlfriend Lily\, attempt to make some money out of this unique situation. The stories become intertwined as the lovable Annie’s story hits the national spotlight.

This condensed version of the ballet takes place in the dreams of young Clara\, in which she receives dolls who take life as the dancers. Set to the classical music of Tchaikovsky\, Clara’s Christmas Eve dream begins with a visit from the angels and the Sugar Plum Fairy\, and continues with the magical surprises from Herr Drosselmeyer. The ballet was set after the original Ivanov choreography specifically for the youth dancers of SYBC by the late Duncan Noble\, world-renowned dancer\, teacher\, choreographer\, and former Dean of Dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts.

SUMMARY:The Polar Express
DESCRIPTION:Come aboard the Polar Express\, a magical train heading to the North Pole. Tom Hanks stars as the conductor—as well as five other roles! Based on the award-winning storybook written by Chris Van Allsburg\, this Christmas story tells of a boy who has reached an age when his belief in Santa is beginning to falter. \nThe young and young-at-heart are encouraged to come dressed in Christmas pajamas and enjoy the show. Santa will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes\, and true to the Polar Express experience\, hot chocolate and cookies will be available\, too. \nLate one Christmas Eve\, a young boy is lying awake waiting for the sound of sleigh bells ringing from Santa’s sleigh. Five minutes to midnight his room begins to shake\, and he hears a thunderous sound outside his window. The boy jumps from his bed and sees a train in the middle of his street. The boy grabs his robe and rushes out the front door to look at the train. The train’s conductor asks the boy if he is getting aboard. The boy asks\, ‘Where are you going?’ ‘To the North Pole\, of course. This is the Polar Express!’ replies the conductor. At the last minute\, the boy jumps on the train and finds other young boys and girls going to the North Pole. Their adventure begins. On the train he meets more children\, among them a know-it-all\, a clever girl and a poor boy. During the trip to the North Pole\, there are several complications before the end of the journey comes. When they reach the North Pole\, the children meet Santa Claus\, and the boy gets the very first Christmas present of the year—a sleigh bell from Santa’s sleigh. They return safely to their homes in time for Christmas Day\, and the boy finds the Christmas present from Santa beneath his tree.

DESCRIPTION:Sujari Britt showed her prodigious talent and uncanny devotion to and understanding of music from a very early age. She began formal study of the cello at age 4\, following her study on the violin\, and piano. Sujari is pursuing her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance at Manhattan School of Music. Sujari is the distinguished recipient of the 2016-17 and 2015−2016 Hans & Klara Bauer Scholarship at Manhattan School of Music\, where she is a college senior studying with distinguished pedagogue Marion Feldman. In Fall 2017\, Sujari will study at Sibelius Academy\, Finland with eminent pedagogue Martti Rousi. In Spring 2016\, Sujari was featured in Canada’s Neapolitan Connection Concert Series.
