And feel the spine-tingling anticipation as you stand on the stage and imagine a thousand people watching in the audience and the sound of their applause. \nLearn about the history of the building\, its notable owners\, and see parts of the theatre that are rarely accessible to the general public. \nBring a camera and comfortable walking shoes. We’ll be climbing stairs to the projection booth at the top of the house and descending below the stage on this tour.

DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed alt-rock bands Soul Asylum and Cracker are performing a double headline concert at the historic Peoples Bank Theatre! \nSoul Asylum\nFormed in Minneapolis in 1981\, Grammy Award-winning band Soul Asylum’s raucous live sets and early releases on the hometown indie label Twin/Tone — including the albums Say What You Will\, Made to Be Broken and While You Were Out — earned it a loyal fan base and widespread critical acclaim. \nSoul Asylum’s indie success led to the band entering the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time and its 1990 follow-up And the Horse They Rode In On\, and achieving a platinum-level commercial breakthrough with 1992’s Grave Dancers Union and 1995’s Let Your Dim Light Shine. Grave Dancers Union featured the international hits “Runaway Train\,” which won a 1994 Grammy as Best Rock Song\, and “Black Gold\,” while Let Your Dim Light Shine spawned the hit “Misery.” \nCracker\nChart-topping band Cracker has been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock\, Americana\, and insurgent-country. They have even had the terms punk and classic-rock thrown at them. But more than anything\, Cracker are survivors. Cofounders David Lowery and Johnny Hickman have been at it for a quarter of a century – amassing ten studio albums\, multiple gold records\, thousands of live performances\, hit songs that are still in current radio rotation around the globe (“Low\,” “Euro-Trash Girl\,” “Get Off This\,” and “Turn On\, Tune In\, Drop Out With Me” to name just a few)\, and a worldwide fan base that— despite the major sea-changes within the music industry— continues to grow each year. \nCracker‘s tenth and most recent studio effort\, the double-album\, Berkeley To Bakersfield\, finds this uniquely American band traversing two different sides of the California landscape – the northern Bay area and further down-state in Bakersfield. Musically\, these two regions couldn’t be further apart from one another. In the late 70s and 80s a harder-edged style of rock music emerged from the Bay area\, while Bakersfield is renowned for its own iconic twangy country music popularized\, most famously\, by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Despite these differences\, they are both elements that Lowery and Hickman have embraced to some degree on nearly every one of their studio albums over the last two decades. \nGet tickets today for a double dose of amazing live rock!

DESCRIPTION:June 29\, July 1\, 2\, 7\, 8 & 9 with all shows starting at 8:30 p.m. in Muskingum Park. \nFollow Shakespeare by the River on Facebook. \nJoin us for the fourth annual Shakespeare By The River Festival\, presenting The Merchant of Venice in Marietta’s Muskingum Park this June and July. \nAs always\, this exciting open-air theatrical event is FREE and open to the public. \nThe Merchant of Venice written between 1596 and 1598 is Shakespeare’s comedy centred around love\, money\, prejudice and social injustice. \nSYNOPSIS \nAntonio\, the Merchant of Venice\, lends three thousand ducats to his friend Bassanio in order to assist him in his wooing of the wealthy and beautiful Portia of Belmont\, an estate some distance from Venice. \nAntonio’s own money is tied up in business ventures that depend on the safe return of his ships from sea\, so he borrows the money from Shylock\, a Jewish moneylender whom he has previously insulted for his high rates of interest. \nShylock lends the money against a bond. Failure to repay the loan on the agreed date will entitle Shylock to a pound of Antonio’s flesh. \nPORTIA’S SUITORS \nPortia’s father has decreed that she will marry whichever suitor makes the correct choice when presented with three caskets\, made of gold\, silver and lead. \nWhere wealthy suitors from Morocco and Aragon fail\, Bassanio succeeds by choosing lead. His friend Gratiano marries Portia’s lady-in-waiting Nerissa at the same time. \nNews arrives that Antonio’s ships have been lost; he is unable to pay his debt. \nA TRIAL \nShylock’s claim to his pound of flesh is heard in the law court before the duke.\nUnknown to their husbands\, Portia disguises herself as a young male lawyer acting on behalf of Antonio\, Nerissa as a clerk. \nPortia argues that Shylock is entitled to his pound of flesh but not to spill any of Antonio’s blood. \nShe also says that the Jew should forfeit his life for having conspired against the life of a Venetian. \nDon’t read any more if you don’t want to know the ending! \nThe duke pardons Shylock on condition that he gives half his wealth to Antonio and half to the state. \nAntonio surrenders his claim on condition that Shylock converts to Christianity and leaves his property to his daughter Jessica\, whom he has disinherited for running away with her Christian lover\, Lorenzo. \nPortia and Nerissa then assert their power over Bassanio and Gratiano through a trick involving rings that the men have promised never to part with. \nFinally\, there is good news about Antonio’s ships.

This time\, Tritt returns with his full band\, just after celebrating his 25th Anniversary with the Grand Ole Opry. \nMore than 25 years after Tritt launched his music career\, the Grammy award-winning artist continues to sell-out shows across the globe. A Marietta\, Georgia native\, Travis Tritt is dubbed one of “The Class of ‘89\,” which included Country music superstars Garth Brooks\, Clint Black and Alan Jackson; all of whom dominated the charts in the early 1990s. Among his eleven studio albums and numerous charted singles are nineteen Top 10 hits\, including “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde\,” “Here’s A Quarter” and “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive.” Over the course of his career\, he has amassed more than 25 million career album sales\, two Grammy award wins and multiple No. 1 singles on the Country radio charts. Most recently\, Tritt released a special live 2-disc CD and DVD\, titled “A Man and His Guitar – Live From The Franklin Theatre.” \nSteve Hussey & Jake Eddy\nSteve Hussey and Jake Eddy originally started working together in 2014\, when Steve hired Jake to record a few songs for Steve’s upcoming wedding. That went so well they continued working together recording a full length LP. The result\, “The Miller Girl\,” draws on their influences in the genre including Old Crow Medicine Show\, the Avett Brothers and Jason Isbell. \nBased out of Washington\, West Virginia\, they form a formidable duo. The album “The Miller Girl” explores themes of the transformational power of love and is dark\, funny\, and wistful by turns and features something that’s lost is a lot of modern music: innocence. \nJake is a West Virginia state flat picking champion and multi-instrumental virtuoso who has played with Bluegrass legend Melvin Goins’ band. SUMMARY:Cool Hand Luke
DESCRIPTION:126 min\nPG\n1967 \nPaul Newman was nominated for an Oscar and George Kennedy received one for his work in this allegorical prison drama. Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) is sentenced to a stretch on a southern chain gang after he’s arrested for drunkenly decapitating parking meters. While the avowed ambition of the captain (Strother Martin) is for each prisoner to “get their mind right\,” it soon becomes obvious that Luke is not about to kowtow to anybody. When challenged to a fistfight by fellow inmate Dragline (George Kennedy)\, Luke simply refuses to give up\, even though he’s brutally beaten. Luke knows how to win at poker\, even with bad cards\, by using his smarts and playing it cool. Luke also figures out a way for the men to get their work done in half the usual time\, giving them the afternoon off. Finally\, when Luke finds out his mother has died\, he plots his escape; when he’s caught\, he simply escapes again. Soon\, Luke becomes a symbol of hope and resilience to the other men in the prison camp — and a symbol of rebelliousness that must be stamped out to the guards and the captain. E. Cummings and will feature Dr. Amy Yekel\, dramatic soprano\, with the Marietta College Wind Ensemble. \nOther special guests will include Dr. Bill Ruud\, Marietta College President\, as he joins the Marietta College Symphonic Band.  Dr. Ruud was a high school clarinetist and will be adding his musical talents to two compositions being performed by the Symphonic Band. \nThe concert is open to the public and free of charge.  Seats are on a first come\, first serve basis.  The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. event.

Németh fearlessly crushes all barriers of style and genre with an album of original songs that defies all the usual pigeonholes. Drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B\, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll\, John creates music that is personal as well as universal\, and owes its origin to no one but John Németh. A past winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, this year Kearney steps into the spotlight with her first solo effort\, a wry\, big-hearted pop album titled Won’t Let You Down\, scheduled for release in March. \nT Sisters \nThe T Sisters\, born and raised in California and now based in the creative hub of Oakland\, embody harmony. It’s in their blood\, bones\, and history. Erika\, Rachel and Chloe have been singing and writing music together since childhood. With the ability to converse in 498 animal dialects\, Dolittle gathers up his friends Matthew Mugg (Anthony Newley) and Emma Fairfax (Samantha Eggar) and heads off on a journey to the South Seas to find the elusive great pink snail and the giant lunar moth. Along the way\, the group encounters a succession of bizarre human and animal characters — most notably the legendary pushme-pullyou\, an animal so outlandish that it compels Albert Blossom (Richard Attenborough) to burst out into the exuberant song\, “I’ve never Seen Anything Like It in My Life.” The film was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar in 1967.

He is also a consummate teacher of songwriting\, from K-12\, to advanced songwriters. \nTodd’s Workshop: “How I Write One Song Every Day!”\nTodd will discuss the various methods he uses bring on the “muse” on a daily basis. He will also share with you why he feels creativity is endless. \nEric Gnezda\, MFA\, is creator\, host and producer of the national TV show\, Songs at the Center. An award-winning songwriter\, Eric is a regular performer at Nashville’s Bluebird Café. Eric has seen success with a wide range of styles – from comedic to inspirational songs. He and his work have been featured on radio and television around the world. Also\, a public speaker and Emmy-nominated TV journalist\, Eric has appeared before countless corporate clients across America. Away from the stage\, he is a lecturer at Ohio Wesleyan University. Eric’s workshop is called\, “How to Write Comedic Songs and Parodies”. \nRon Sowell is best known for his role as the musical director for the internationally acclaimed radio show Mountain Stage. Ron Sowell is also a dynamic singer and performer\, accomplished guitar and harmonica player\, award winning songwriter and critically acclaimed producer. He has recorded four albums with West Virginia based bands – the Putnam County Pickers and Stark Raven. He has toured extensively across the United States and to Greenland\, Europe\, the Mediterranean and Africa. In addition\, he has recorded three solo CD’s of original music including his latest release” Little Movies”. \nRon’s Workshop: Cooking Up a Song from Scratch\nThe best way to learn to write a song is by doing it! Ron will talk about choosing a subject and a musical style\, deciding on tempo and picking a major or minor key to fit the emotion. He will then lead the class through the simple formula he has devised over the years at going from nothing\, to having a completed song! \nThe emphasis will be on spontaneity\, having fun\, and creating a safe space to offer ideas. Team work and respecting each other’s ideas will be encouraged. At the end of the day participants will have a creative process that they can take home and duplicate in other settings. \nGene Castelli\, Co-coordinator\, Nashville Songwriters Association International\, Columbus Chapter. A veteran songwriter\, Gene has taught the craft for more than a decade to songwriters of all levels. \nGene’s Workshop: From Idea to I Did It!\n“I’ve put together a list of the most common things about songwriting\, like\, hook\, chorus\, bridge\, pre-chorus\, etc. I will walk my class through the terminology and what it means\, and then have fun with them putting a song together. At the end we will all be putting our names on it as a co-writer!” \nJim Shaw\, MA\, is a music educator of 35 years in both public and private schools\, K-12. A composer and touring musician\, Jim is a faculty member in music education at Ashland University\, where he teaches primarily education and nursing students on techniques of bringing music into the classroom. Julie Andrews\, in a role that recalls her Broadway triumph in The Boy Friend\, stars as Millie Dillmount\, who comes to New York is search of a secretarial job and an unattached boss. She moves into a hotel for women\, run by kindly Mrs. Meers (Beatrice Lillie)\, and she befriends the pretty\, petite orphan Dorothy Brown (Mary Tyler Moore). Millie finds work with the handsome bachelor Trevor Graydon (John Gavin)\, but Trevor has his eyes on Dorothy. So too does Mrs. Meers\, who despite her kindly exterior is actually an unscrupulous white slaver. Paper clip salesman Jimmy Smith (James Fox)\, on the other hand\, pledges his undying love to Millie. One day\, after attending a weekend party being given at the opulent Long Island mansion of Muzzy Van Hossmere (Carol Channing)\, Dorothy disappears. Delbert is always working on that second group. \nLyle Lovett has said\, “If we could all sing like we wanted to\, we’d all sing like Delbert.” \nThe multi-Grammy Award winning artist is at the top of his game with his 19th studio album\, Prick Of The Litter (Hot Shot Records/Thirty Tigers). The new offering captures the balance of soulful energy and restraint that the legendary performer has been delivering in his live performances for decades all over the world. On Prick of the Litter\, Delbert incorporates a variety of styles\, and as always\, just enough to keep him comfortably outside the traditional marketing categories. \nPrick Of The Litter blends Delbert’s signature rhythm and blues sound with a newer jazz-influence inspired by Johnny Mercer\, Nat King Cole and other legendary crooners. He includes some upbeat traditional blues (“Don’t Do It”) with a romantic take on Tony Bennett’s San Francisco (“San Miguel”) while “Skip Chaser” paints a vivid picture of the perils of the profession. A highlight is the album’s closer\, the gentle and hopeful “Rosy.” McClinton’s road band\, Self-Made Men provide a hard-driving rhythm section\, powerful guitars and innovative piano\, accented by punched-up horns. Delbert’s definitive vocals and distinct harmonica licks bring it all together. \nDelbert McClinton has been a leading Americana artist since before the genre was established. He has won two Grammy awards in the blues category for Best Contemporary Blues Album; and one in the rock category (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group)\, with Bonnie Raitt for “Good Man\, Good Woman”. \nDelbert’s unique musical style grew from his Texas music beginnings. Influenced at a young age by Tejano\, Western Swing\, Rhythm and Blues and War songs\, he developed a signature sound that served him well. \nDelbert grew up around Lubbock and Fort Worth\, and spent his early career in the desegregating roadhouses of Fort Worth’s Jacksboro Highway\, leading the house bands for Jimmy Reed\, Muddy Waters\, Bo Diddley\, and others\, while making a local name for himself. Later\, Delbert traveled to England where he headlined shows with Bruce Channel (“Hey Baby”) with a little-known Liverpool band [The Beatles] as the opening act. He then rolled into Los Angeles as songwriters began to take top billing\, and headed back to Texas for the progressive movement and blues renaissance that helped kick off Austin’s role in American musical history. \nIf you’ve seen a live Delbert McClinton show\, you will recognize the synchronized energy on Prick Of The Litter that comes from thousands of miles of playing together. Delbert feels that his current road band\, Self-Made Men\, is the best band he’s ever had. \n“Jack Bruno [drums] is amazing. He played with Joe Cocker and with Tina Turner for years. I’ve been harder on drummers than anybody in the world\, but Jack is right there where I need him. Dana Robbins [saxophone] and Quentin ‘Q’ Ware [trumpet] punctuate the live performances in just the right places. James Pennebaker [guitar] is family. He’s been playing with me off and on since he was nineteen. Mike Joyce [bass guitar]\, Kevin McKendree [piano]\, and Bob Britt [guitar] are among my best friends\, in addition to being in the band. Mike and Kevin and I write together a lot. We wrote most of the songs on this album together.” \nDelbert\, Kevin and Bob also co-produced Prick Of The Litter. “Going into the studio with a band that’s like family creates real magic\,” says Delbert. “You have the energy of a live band. We feed off of each other. We are better together. And it always feels like they have my back.” Jimmie Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton are an added bonus on the first track. Delbert adds “I am such a fan of Lou Ann and of Jimmie. We needed a female to do a part on ‘Don’t Do It.’ Bob suggested Lou Ann\, and I knew she would be perfect. I have always loved Jimmie and Lou Ann. I had talked to Jimmie about doing something on my last album but it didn’t work out. So this time\, we went to Austin and they both came into the studio. We spent about two hours and had a lot of fun. They are both so talented.” \nDelbert wrote or co-wrote ten of the songs on the album. “By the time we wrote these songs\, Mike\, Bob and Kevin had been in my band for a long time\,” says Delbert. “We got together every Wednesday for several weeks\, and then we went to Mexico and finished writing the rest of the album.” \n2017 is a milestone year for Delbert. In addition to the release of Prick Of The Litter\, a biography is slated for release in September. He has also been nominated for Texas State Musician\, a highly acclaimed state appointment akin to poet laureate. \nPrick of the Litter is a signature project for Delbert McClinton\, and he is proud of it. “We worked hard on this and we got exactly what we wanted\,” he says. “The songs\, the band\, the production. Everything came together. We didn’t leave no chicken on the bone\,” he says. \n“I did what I came to do with this album. I guess I really am One of the Fortunate Few.”

Feeling pity on the child\, Bagheera takes him to be raised with the wolves. Ten years later\, the child has grown into Mowgli (voice of Bruce Reitherman). Mowgli discovers that his life is in danger because of the return to the area of Shere Khan the Tiger (voice of George Sanders)\, whose hatred of humans is such that Mowgli faces certain death if discovered. Bagheera agrees to transport Mowgli to the human village\, where he will be safe from Shere Khan. Along the way to the village\, night falls and Mowgli and Bagheera almost succumb to the man-eating snake Kaa (voice of Sterling Holloway). Escaping Kaa’s coils\, they run into the lock-step military elephant band of Colonel Hathi (voice of J. Pat O’Malley). Afterwards\, Mowgli\, who doesn’t want to be sent to the human village\, runs away from Bagheera and meets up with the fun-loving Baloo the Bear (voice of Phil Harrris).
