SUMMARY:The Merchant of Venice
DESCRIPTION:June 29\, July 1\, 2\, 7\, 8 & 9 with all shows starting at 8:30 p.m. in Muskingum Park. \nFollow Shakespeare by the River on Facebook. \nJoin us for the fourth annual Shakespeare By The River Festival\, presenting The Merchant of Venice in Marietta’s Muskingum Park this June and July. \nAs always\, this exciting open-air theatrical event is FREE and open to the public. \nThe Merchant of Venice written between 1596 and 1598 is Shakespeare’s comedy centred around love\, money\, prejudice and social injustice. \nSYNOPSIS \nAntonio\, the Merchant of Venice\, lends three thousand ducats to his friend Bassanio in order to assist him in his wooing of the wealthy and beautiful Portia of Belmont\, an estate some distance from Venice. \nAntonio’s own money is tied up in business ventures that depend on the safe return of his ships from sea\, so he borrows the money from Shylock\, a Jewish moneylender whom he has previously insulted for his high rates of interest. \nShylock lends the money against a bond. Failure to repay the loan on the agreed date will entitle Shylock to a pound of Antonio’s flesh. \nPORTIA’S SUITORS \nPortia’s father has decreed that she will marry whichever suitor makes the correct choice when presented with three caskets\, made of gold\, silver and lead. \nWhere wealthy suitors from Morocco and Aragon fail\, Bassanio succeeds by choosing lead. His friend Gratiano marries Portia’s lady-in-waiting Nerissa at the same time. \nNews arrives that Antonio’s ships have been lost; he is unable to pay his debt. \nA TRIAL \nShylock’s claim to his pound of flesh is heard in the law court before the duke.\nUnknown to their husbands\, Portia disguises herself as a young male lawyer acting on behalf of Antonio\, Nerissa as a clerk. \nPortia argues that Shylock is entitled to his pound of flesh but not to spill any of Antonio’s blood. \nShe also says that the Jew should forfeit his life for having conspired against the life of a Venetian. \nDon’t read any more if you don’t want to know the ending! \nThe duke pardons Shylock on condition that he gives half his wealth to Antonio and half to the state. \nAntonio surrenders his claim on condition that Shylock converts to Christianity and leaves his property to his daughter Jessica\, whom he has disinherited for running away with her Christian lover\, Lorenzo. \nPortia and Nerissa then assert their power over Bassanio and Gratiano through a trick involving rings that the men have promised never to part with. \nFinally\, there is good news about Antonio’s ships.

SUMMARY:Travis Tritt - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Froggy99\, Grae-Con\, and Huntington Bank. \nWith Special Guests Steve Hussey & Jake Eddy. \nPeoples Bank Theatre opens its Summer-Fall Season with the return of Travis Tritt\, whose solo acoustic performance was part of the theatre’s grand reopening in January 2016. This time\, Tritt returns with his full band\, just after celebrating his 25th Anniversary with the Grand Ole Opry. \nMore than 25 years after Tritt launched his music career\, the Grammy award-winning artist continues to sell-out shows across the globe. A Marietta\, Georgia native\, Travis Tritt is dubbed one of “The Class of ‘89\,” which included Country music superstars Garth Brooks\, Clint Black and Alan Jackson; all of whom dominated the charts in the early 1990s. Among his eleven studio albums and numerous charted singles are nineteen Top 10 hits\, including “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde\,” “Here’s A Quarter” and “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive.” Over the course of his career\, he has amassed more than 25 million career album sales\, two Grammy award wins and multiple No. 1 singles on the Country radio charts. Most recently\, Tritt released a special live 2-disc CD and DVD\, titled “A Man and His Guitar – Live From The Franklin Theatre.” \nSteve Hussey & Jake Eddy\nSteve Hussey and Jake Eddy originally started working together in 2014\, when Steve hired Jake to record a few songs for Steve’s upcoming wedding. That went so well they continued working together recording a full length LP. The result\, “The Miller Girl\,” draws on their influences in the genre including Old Crow Medicine Show\, the Avett Brothers and Jason Isbell. \nBased out of Washington\, West Virginia\, they form a formidable duo. The album “The Miller Girl” explores themes of the transformational power of love and is dark\, funny\, and wistful by turns and features something that’s lost is a lot of modern music: innocence. \nJake is a West Virginia state flat picking champion and multi-instrumental virtuoso who has played with Bluegrass legend Melvin Goins’ band. He has also played with James King and shared the stage with Idletymes\, Don Rigby\, and Remington Ryde to name a few. \nSteve is a well known regional songwriter best known in the region around West Virginia for his work with the eponymous Steve Hussey Band. A veteran performer\, he has shared the stage with .38 special\, Eddie Money\, and the Davisson Brothers\, among others\, while entertaining crowds at clubs and fairs and festivals all over the region. \n“The Miller Girl” was released November 2016 on their label Merf Records.

SUMMARY:Cool Hand Luke
DESCRIPTION:126 min\nPG\n1967 \nPaul Newman was nominated for an Oscar and George Kennedy received one for his work in this allegorical prison drama. Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) is sentenced to a stretch on a southern chain gang after he’s arrested for drunkenly decapitating parking meters. While the avowed ambition of the captain (Strother Martin) is for each prisoner to “get their mind right\,” it soon becomes obvious that Luke is not about to kowtow to anybody. When challenged to a fistfight by fellow inmate Dragline (George Kennedy)\, Luke simply refuses to give up\, even though he’s brutally beaten. Luke knows how to win at poker\, even with bad cards\, by using his smarts and playing it cool. Luke also figures out a way for the men to get their work done in half the usual time\, giving them the afternoon off. Finally\, when Luke finds out his mother has died\, he plots his escape; when he’s caught\, he simply escapes again. Soon\, Luke becomes a symbol of hope and resilience to the other men in the prison camp — and a symbol of rebelliousness that must be stamped out to the guards and the captain. Along with stellar performances by Newman\, Kennedy\, and Martin\, Cool Hand Luke features a superb supporting cast\, including Ralph Waite\, Harry Dean Stanton\, Dennis Hopper\, Wayne Rogers\, and Joe Don Baker as members of the chain gang. \nCast: \nPaul Newman\nGeorge Kennedy\nJ.D. SUMMARY:You Only Live Twice
DESCRIPTION:125 min\nPG\n1967 \nJames Bond heads East to save the world (and to learn how to serve saki properly) in this action-packed espionage adventure. When an American spacecraft disappears during a mission\, it’s widely believed to have been intercepted by the Soviet Union\, and after a Russian space capsule similarly goes missing\, most consider it to be an act of American retaliation. Soon the two nations are at the brink of war\, but British intelligence discovers that some sort of UFO has crashed into the Sea of Japan. Agent 007\, James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent in to investigate. After staging his own death to avoid being followed\, Bond\, disguised as a Japanese civilian\, teams up with agent Tiger Tanaka (Tetsuro Tamba) and his beautiful associate Aki (Akiko Wakabayashi). With their help\, Bond learns that both the American and Russian space missions were actually scuttled by supercriminal Ernst Blofeld (Donald Pleasance) in yet another bid by his evil empire SPECTRE to take over the world. You Only Live Twice was one of Sean Connery’s last outings as James Bond. \nCast: \nSean Connery\nDonald Pleasence\nTetsuro Tamba\nMie Hama\nAkiko Wakabayashi\nTeru Shimada

This collection blends Songbook staples\, jazz standards\, and standards-to-be from a diverse array of composers. Every track on Upward Spiral confirms the beyond-category strengths of both the Quartet and Elling. The tight-knit working band featuring Marsalis on saxophones\, Joey Calderazzo on piano\, Eric Revis on bass\, and Justin Faulkner on drums form a nearly telepathically cohesive unit. SUMMARY:Mountain Stage with Larry Groce
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: $20 | $26 | $32 \nSponsored by \n    \nJust added: John Németh & The Blue Dreamers! Nominated for the 2017 Blues Music Award – B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. PLUS Edward David Anderson. \nJoin us for the first live recording of “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce” to take place in Marietta\, Ohio! \nFor more than 30 years “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce” has been the home of live music on public radio. The two-hour radio show is produced in West Virginia and distributed by National Public Radio weekly on more than 150 stations across America and around the world via NPR Music and mountainstage.org. The show\, which is recorded before a live audience\, features performances by seasoned legends and emerging stars in genres ranging from folk\, blues and country to indie rock\, synth pop\, world and alternative music\, and beyond. \nSinger/songwriter Larry Groce serves as the show’s host\, artistic director and co-producer. The Mountain Stage house band includes jazz pianist Bob Thompson\, vocalist Julie Adams\, bass player Steve Hill\, drummer Ammed Solomon and guitarists Michael Lipton and Ryan Kennedy. The band is directed by Ron Sowell. \nPeoples Bank Theatre and Mountain Stage with Larry Groce are excited to announce four of the guests for the radio show’s first appearance in the Pioneer City on April 9: John Németh & The Blue Dreamers\, Edward David Anderson\, Shemekia Copeland\, Bridget Kearney\, and The T Sisters. \nJohn Németh \nJohn Németh had already established himself among the very top ranks of blues musicians and modern soul singers when he decided to break the mold with his new record\, FEELIN’ FREAKY. Németh fearlessly crushes all barriers of style and genre with an album of original songs that defies all the usual pigeonholes. Drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B\, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll\, John creates music that is personal as well as universal\, and owes its origin to no one but John Németh. John’s songs are groove and melody-driven\, laced with thoughtful lyrics and nuanced humor\, and cover themes from social issues of gun violence and class values to the pure hedonistic joy of dancing\, sexuality and marijuana. He creates his songs from melodies and phrases he draws from the sounds of life\, from early-morning Memphis songbirds to the din of the city. For this album John brought his new songs to his great touring band\, the Blue Dreamers – Danny Banks on drums\, Matthew Wilson on bass and guitar\, and Johnny Rhodes on guitar. \nEdward David Anderson \nEdward David Anderson is one of music’s modern makers\, a rock & roll veteran who spent his formative years fronting the revered Midwest band\, Backyard Tire Fire. Known for infectious melodies and memorable messages Anderson penned 8 albums for the band and played countless shows across the US and Canada. Their eventual hiatus fostered his solo debut\, Lies & Wishes (2014\, Royal Potato Family) working with friend and Grammy winning producer Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.  A serendipitous move south in 2013 introduced him to ‘Lower Alabama’ where he found the culture and beaches provided reprieve from life on the road and a second home. He quickly immersed himself into the rich and welcoming LA music scene where he met producer Anthony Crawford (Neil Young\, Willie Sugarcapps) and recorded Lower Alabama: The Loxley Sessions over the winter of 2014. The album floats melodiously on rivers of fiddle and clouds of pedal steel\, on gentle acoustic guitars and hints of piano\, dusted with some ghostly guitar from Will Kimbrough and striking vocal harmony by Crawford’s wife\, singer Savana Lee. The nine-song collection steps firmly into the Americana world and was hailed “A wonderfully soulful record” by David Dye (NPR’s World Cafe) and “A simply infectious album” by No Depression. \nShemekia Copeland \nWhether she’s belting out a raucous blues-rocker\, firing up a blistering soul-shouter\, bringing the spirit to a gospel-fueled R&B rave-up or digging deep down into a subtle\, country-tinged ballad\, Shemekia Copeland sounds like no one else. This month\, Shemekia was nominated as the 38th Annual Blues Music Award’s Contemporary Blues Female Artist. Shemekia won that same category in 2016 after the release of Outskirts of Love. Her acclaimed eighth album\, released by Alligator Records in September 2015\, was also nominated for a Grammy Award. \nThe Chicago Tribune says Copeland delivers “gale force singing and power” with a “unique\, gutsy style\, vibrant emotional palette and intuitive grasp of the music.” NPR Music calls her “fiercely expressive.” She has sung with Eric Clapton\, Bonnie Raitt\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Mick Jagger\, Keith Richards\, Carlos Santana\, James Cotton and opened for The Rolling Stones. \nBridget Kearney \nOver the past 12 years\, Bridget Kearney has toured the world as the bassist of the soul pop sensation Lake Street Dive. An incredibly versatile musician\, Kearney has always been voraciously collaborative\, dabbling in chamber pop with the Brooklyn group Cuddle Magic\, bluegrass with the now defunct Boston outfit Joy Kills Sorrow\, and Ghanian music as part of a duo with fellow songwriter Benjamin Lazar Davis. A past winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, this year Kearney steps into the spotlight with her first solo effort\, a wry\, big-hearted pop album titled Won’t Let You Down\, scheduled for release in March. \nT Sisters \nThe T Sisters\, born and raised in California and now based in the creative hub of Oakland\, embody harmony. It’s in their blood\, bones\, and history. Erika\, Rachel and Chloe have been singing and writing music together since childhood. Their sound represents a continuum of music\, from traditional to pop influences\, moments of breathtaking a cappella to swells of energetic indie Americana. The T Sisters have appeared at Merlefest\, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Music City Roots\, and Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion\, among others. \nStay tuned as more artists will be announced in the coming weeks. Mountain Stage is produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and distributed by NPR Music. The event will be recorded for broadcast later this year via 200 NPR stations nationwide.

SUMMARY:Delbert McClinton
DESCRIPTION:Presented with the Mid-Ohio Valley Blues\, Jazz\, & Folk Music Society and the 26th Annual River City Blues Festival \n*ON SALE NOW*\n Tickets: $26 | $32 | $38 | Limited VIP Seats $75 \nWith Guest Opener Sadie Johnson \nDelbert McClinton & Self-Made Men with their 2017 album release: Prick Of The Litter \nThere are two kinds of people in the world: those who love Delbert McClinton and those who haven’t heard him yet. Delbert is always working on that second group. \nLyle Lovett has said\, “If we could all sing like we wanted to\, we’d all sing like Delbert.” \nThe multi-Grammy Award winning artist is at the top of his game with his 19th studio album\, Prick Of The Litter (Hot Shot Records/Thirty Tigers). The new offering captures the balance of soulful energy and restraint that the legendary performer has been delivering in his live performances for decades all over the world. On Prick of the Litter\, Delbert incorporates a variety of styles\, and as always\, just enough to keep him comfortably outside the traditional marketing categories. \nPrick Of The Litter blends Delbert’s signature rhythm and blues sound with a newer jazz-influence inspired by Johnny Mercer\, Nat King Cole and other legendary crooners. He includes some upbeat traditional blues (“Don’t Do It”) with a romantic take on Tony Bennett’s San Francisco (“San Miguel”) while “Skip Chaser” paints a vivid picture of the perils of the profession. A highlight is the album’s closer\, the gentle and hopeful “Rosy.” McClinton’s road band\, Self-Made Men provide a hard-driving rhythm section\, powerful guitars and innovative piano\, accented by punched-up horns. Delbert’s definitive vocals and distinct harmonica licks bring it all together. \nDelbert McClinton has been a leading Americana artist since before the genre was established. He has won two Grammy awards in the blues category for Best Contemporary Blues Album; and one in the rock category (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group)\, with Bonnie Raitt for “Good Man\, Good Woman”. \nDelbert’s unique musical style grew from his Texas music beginnings. Influenced at a young age by Tejano\, Western Swing\, Rhythm and Blues and War songs\, he developed a signature sound that served him well. \nDelbert grew up around Lubbock and Fort Worth\, and spent his early career in the desegregating roadhouses of Fort Worth’s Jacksboro Highway\, leading the house bands for Jimmy Reed\, Muddy Waters\, Bo Diddley\, and others\, while making a local name for himself. Later\, Delbert traveled to England where he headlined shows with Bruce Channel (“Hey Baby”) with a little-known Liverpool band [The Beatles] as the opening act. He then rolled into Los Angeles as songwriters began to take top billing\, and headed back to Texas for the progressive movement and blues renaissance that helped kick off Austin’s role in American musical history. \nIf you’ve seen a live Delbert McClinton show\, you will recognize the synchronized energy on Prick Of The Litter that comes from thousands of miles of playing together. Delbert feels that his current road band\, Self-Made Men\, is the best band he’s ever had. \n“Jack Bruno [drums] is amazing. He played with Joe Cocker and with Tina Turner for years. I’ve been harder on drummers than anybody in the world\, but Jack is right there where I need him. Dana Robbins [saxophone] and Quentin ‘Q’ Ware [trumpet] punctuate the live performances in just the right places. James Pennebaker [guitar] is family. He’s been playing with me off and on since he was nineteen. Mike Joyce [bass guitar]\, Kevin McKendree [piano]\, and Bob Britt [guitar] are among my best friends\, in addition to being in the band. Mike and Kevin and I write together a lot. We wrote most of the songs on this album together.” \nDelbert\, Kevin and Bob also co-produced Prick Of The Litter. “Going into the studio with a band that’s like family creates real magic\,” says Delbert. “You have the energy of a live band. We feed off of each other. We are better together. And it always feels like they have my back.” Jimmie Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton are an added bonus on the first track. Delbert adds “I am such a fan of Lou Ann and of Jimmie. We needed a female to do a part on ‘Don’t Do It.’ Bob suggested Lou Ann\, and I knew she would be perfect. I have always loved Jimmie and Lou Ann. I had talked to Jimmie about doing something on my last album but it didn’t work out. So this time\, we went to Austin and they both came into the studio. We spent about two hours and had a lot of fun. They are both so talented.” \nDelbert wrote or co-wrote ten of the songs on the album. “By the time we wrote these songs\, Mike\, Bob and Kevin had been in my band for a long time\,” says Delbert. “We got together every Wednesday for several weeks\, and then we went to Mexico and finished writing the rest of the album.” \n2017 is a milestone year for Delbert. In addition to the release of Prick Of The Litter\, a biography is slated for release in September. He has also been nominated for Texas State Musician\, a highly acclaimed state appointment akin to poet laureate. \nPrick of the Litter is a signature project for Delbert McClinton\, and he is proud of it. “We worked hard on this and we got exactly what we wanted\,” he says. “The songs\, the band\, the production. Everything came together. We didn’t leave no chicken on the bone\,” he says. \n“I did what I came to do with this album. I guess I really am One of the Fortunate Few.”

Click here. \n78 min\nG\n1967 \nThe final animated feature produced under the supervision of Walt Disney is a lively swing musical\, based upon the tales of Rudyard Kipling. The story takes place in a tropical jungle where people are conspicuously absent. But one day Bagheera the Panther (voice of Sebastian Cabot) discovers a baby in the wreck of a boat. Feeling pity on the child\, Bagheera takes him to be raised with the wolves. Ten years later\, the child has grown into Mowgli (voice of Bruce Reitherman). Mowgli discovers that his life is in danger because of the return to the area of Shere Khan the Tiger (voice of George Sanders)\, whose hatred of humans is such that Mowgli faces certain death if discovered. Bagheera agrees to transport Mowgli to the human village\, where he will be safe from Shere Khan. Along the way to the village\, night falls and Mowgli and Bagheera almost succumb to the man-eating snake Kaa (voice of Sterling Holloway). Escaping Kaa’s coils\, they run into the lock-step military elephant band of Colonel Hathi (voice of J. Pat O’Malley). Afterwards\, Mowgli\, who doesn’t want to be sent to the human village\, runs away from Bagheera and meets up with the fun-loving Baloo the Bear (voice of Phil Harrris). With both Bagheera and Baloo to protect him\, Mowgli is saved from several more life-threatening situations — including a barber-shop quartet of vultures\, the crazed King Louie of the Apes (voice of Louis Prima)\, and Shere Khan himself — before making it to the village of humans. \nCast: \nBruce Reitherman\nLouis Prima\nSterling Holloway\nJ. DESCRIPTION:Love seeing classics on the big screen?\nSave on movie tickets! Get tickets for 5 or more of our upcoming films for just $5 each. Click here.\n\n108 min\nNR\n1967\n\nOld-line liberals Matt and Christina Drayton (Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn) have raised their daughter Joey (Katharine Houghton) to think for herself and not blindly conform to the conventional. Still\, they aren’t prepared for the shock when she returns home from a vacation with a new fiancé: African-American doctor John Prentice (Sidney Poitier). While they come to grips with whatever prejudices they might still harbor\, the younger folks must also contend with John’s parents (Roy Glenn Sr. and Beah Richards)\, who are dead-set against the union. To complicate matters\, the older couple’s disapproving maid (Isabel Sanford) and Christina’s bigoted business associate (Virginia Christine) put in their two cents’ worth. While Joey is determined to go ahead with the wedding no matter what people think\, John refuses to consider marriage until he receives the unqualified approval of all concerned. The closing monologue delivered by Spencer Tracy turned out to be the last scene ever played by the veteran film luminary\, who died not long after the production. The film was a success in the racially volatile year of 1967 and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards\, including Best Picture\, and won for Hepburn and screenwriter William Rose.\n\nCast:\n\nSpencer Tracy\nKatharine Hepburn\nSidney Poitier\nKatharine Houghton\nCecil Kellaway\nRoy E. SUMMARY:Tommy Dorsey Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:*ON SALE NOW*\n Tickets: $18 | $24 | $30 \nSponsored by The Eye MDs and Morrison Incorporated \n  \nIn Big Band history\, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is recognized as one of the best all-around big bands. It could swing with the best of them\, and no other band could come close to Tommy’s when it came to playing ballads. Tommy Dorsey\, “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing”\, was a master at creating warm\, sentimental\, and always musical moods – at superb dancing and listening tempos. Tommy sustained these moods through the arrangements of the likes of Paul Weston\, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver\, and he showcased singers who could project them brilliantly. \nJack Leonard sang with the band for about four years\, recording such fine sides as “Dedicated To You”\, “If It’s The Last Thing I do”\, “Little White Lies”\, “You Taught Me To Love Again”\, “Once In A While”\, and\, probably the most famous of all\, “Marie”. With the band singing vocal riffs as Jack sang the straight lyric\, “Marie” was so successful that he recorded several more standard tunes with the same formula. They include “Who”\, “Yearning”\, and “East Of The Sun”. “Song Of India”\, the other side of “Marie”\, was also a huge Dorsey hit. \nFrank Sinatra’s career blossomed with Dorsey\, and\, with Sinatra’s vocals\, the band became more successful than ever. Frank had often admitted that listening to Tommy helped him develop his phrasing and breathing\, along with his musical taste and knowledge. \nSy Oliver infused the band with a new musical spirit. It was a gentler version of the rocking\, rhythmic sounds that he had created for Jimmy Lunceford\, toned down somewhat and played with more precision by the Dorsey Band. These original tunes included “Easy Does It”\, “Quiet Please”\, “Sing High”\, “Yes\, Indeed”\, “Swingin’ On Nothing”\, “Well\, Git It”\, and “Opus No 1”. Oliver also had a unique way of approaching a straight pop tune\, injecting a soft\, two-beat feeling into. He did this with resounding success in such arrangements as “What Can I Say After I Say I’m Sorry? “\, “For You”\, “Swanee River”\, “Mandy”\, “Make Up Your Mind”\, “Chicago”\, and “On The Sunny Side Of The Street”. \nThe vocalists worked both individually and together\, turning out several hits of superior quality. There was Sinatra’s “This Love of Mine”\, Jo Stafford’s “Embraceable You”\, the Pied Pipers’ and Sinatra’s “There Are Such Things”\, “Just As Though You Were Here”\, “Street Of Dreams”\, and “Oh\, Look At Me Now”. Their biggest hit of all\, the one that established vocal groups forever\, was “I’ll Never Smile Again”. \nThe Band was at its best in this decade. In the summer of 1941\, it outranked every other band to finish first in one of the most indicative of all popularity polls\, Martin Block’s Make Believe Ballroom contest. \nBy late 1946\, it was becoming apparent that the band business was having problems. In December 1946\, eight top bandleaders announced they were calling it quits – Woody Herman\, Benny Goodman\, Harry James\, Les Brown\, Jack Teagarden\, Benny Carter\, Ina Ray Hutton and Tommy Dorsey. Essentially\, this was the official end of the Big Band Era. However\, it was Tommy Dorsey who\, in the years immediately following\, fought the case of the big bands with words and action. Less than two years later\, he was fronting a formidable new group.\nIt’s about time somebody got things going again”\, Tommy said at the time. “You can’t expect to have any real interest in dance bands if the bands don’t go around the country and play for the kids.” \nAnd so it continues. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is still traveling throughout the country playing “for the kids” (of all ages).

Jackfert’s “The Thrice Holy” was adopted from an Eastern Orthodox Church choral service\, and is being formed for the first time as an orchestral work. \n“Many people say that my choral work sounds like orchestral writing\, so I’m interested in seeing how this choral piece will translate to the string orchestra during this premiere”\, said Jackford. “I’m excited to hear River Cities bring this piece to life and to see how they do it.” \nMatt is the radio host of All Things Considered on West Virginia Public Broadcasting. He wrote\, recorded\, and produced two well-known themes for West Virginia Public Broadcasting\, and has composed symphonic works\, film scores\, and media music. \nThe symphony will also feature Gordon Jacob’s “Fantasia on Alleluia”\, Beethoven’s 4th\, and\, in partnership with Marietta College’s Concert Choir under Dr. Jay Dougherty\, Brahms’s “Schicksalslied”. \nSponsored by\n\nPeoples Bank\nMarietta College Music Department\n\nRiver Cities Symphony Orchestra – for two decades\, the Mid Ohio Valley’s hometown source for truly moving orchestral music. \nThe RCSO combines highly skilled musicianship\, under Maestro Robert Turizziani’s rousing direction\, with a program that appeals to all ages and levels of musical experience. The RCOS also brings area youth into the world of orchestral music\, working with local schools to bring nearly 3\,000 students into its 2015 concerts. For RCSO information\, including partnership and volunteer opportunities\, call 304-485-7068\, email rivercitiessymphonyorchestra@gmail.com\, or visit RCSO online at www.rcso.info\, or www.facebook.com/rivercitiessymphony.

Click here. \n119 min\nNR\n1953 \nAudrey Hepburn became a star with this film\, in which she played Princess Anne\, weary of protocol and anxious to have some fun before she is mummified by “affairs of state.” On a diplomatic visit to Rome\, Anne escapes her royal retainers and scampers incognito through the Eternal City. She happens to meet American journalist Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck)\, who\, recognizing a hot news story\, pretends that he doesn’t recognize her and offers to give her a guided tour of Rome. Naturally\, Joe hopes to get an exclusive interview\, while his photographer pal Irving (Eddie Albert) attempts to sneak a photo. And just as naturally\, Joe falls in love with her. Filmed on location in Rome\, Roman Holiday garnered an Academy Award for the 24-year-old Hepburn; another Oscar went to the screenplay\, credited to Ian McLellan Hunter and John Dighton but actually co-written by the blacklisted Dalton Trumbo. \nCast: \nAudrey Hepburn\nGregory Peck\nEddie Albert\nTullio Carminati\nHartley Power\nLaura Solari
