Are we going to love\, or are we going to hate? We have a finite amount of time\, each of us on this Earth. So probably want to make the best out of it instead of wasting time.” \n“Dig A Hole” is the lead track on Be Right Here and sets the tone for another expansive set of rock ‘n’ roll from Blackberry Smoke. As always\, the Georgia-based band—Starr\, Still\, guitarist/vocalist Paul Jackson\, bassist/vocalist Richard Turner and drummer Brit Turner—draw inspiration from Southern rock\, blues-leaning classic rock and rootsy vintage country. But on Be Right Here\, Blackberry Smoke sound even more self-assured\, from the strength of their songwriting to their musical execution. \nOver the past two decades\, Blackberry Smoke has developed this confidence and amassed a loyal fanbase\, leading their last five full-length albums to achieve great chart success\, including 2021’s You Hear Georgia\, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart. \nThe band wrote and recorded You Hear Georgia during the most intense periods of the pandemic but held off on releasing it until they could go tour again. Starr says Blackberry Smoke took the same deliberate approach with Be Right Here\, which was recorded in late 2022 and early 2023\, around the same time drummer Brit Turner was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor known as Glioblastoma. “We didn’t feel a whole lot of pressure to go in and make this one quickly\,” Starr shares. \nWorking once again with Grammy-Award winning producer Dave Cobb\, Blackberry Smoke has crafted music that’s raw and immediate-sounding. They tracked the album live in the same space; an approach Cobb also prefers as it lends itself to a looser vibe. “I remember different times I would say\, ‘I think we should redo that\,’ and he’s like\, ‘No\, leave it that way. That way it’s magical\,” Starr remembers. “It’s just as natural and real as possible.” \nLocation also factored into Be Right Here’s sound as they recorded most of the album at Nashville’s beloved RCA Studio A\, and then polished it off in Cobb’s studio in Savannah\, Georgia. “It’s down in the low country and beautiful\,” Starr says of the space\, called Georgia Mae. “This album has a swagger to it\, a deep in the pocket kind of feel. Those surroundings helped give the record that feel.” \nBe Right Here’s lyrics are particularly literary\, full of vivid and relatable characters that ensure the songs often resemble rich short stories. For example\, “Whatcha Know Good\,” a co-write with Brent Cobb\, is a “feel-good song” driven by an amiable narrator who gets along with everybody and dislikes negativity. “There’s plenty of bad news when you turn on the television\,” Starr says. “The dude in this song\, he doesn’t want to hear it anymore. He wants to go to fishing and talk about good news. We were giggling the whole time because we know that guy. Maybe we are that guy.” \nA laid-back\, Stones-like guitar lick from former Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson inspired “Like It Was Yesterday\,” helping Starr conjure another very specific character: an earnest young guy who doesn’t have much life experience\, but knows what he likes and is grateful for good times. “I picture him laying on the hood of his car with his girl\, staring up at the moon and the stars\,” Starr says. “It’s the idea of holding onto that fleeting moment\, because it can slip away from you.” \nOther Be Right Here highlights include “Azalea” and “Little Bit Crazy\,” both co-written with Starr’s frequent songwriting collaborator Travis Meadows. The latter song\, which begins with a chorus of soulful gospel singers before blooming into a languid Southern rocker\, features a narrator who’s embroiled in a relationship that’s fun\, but not necessarily healthy. \nMeanwhile\, the lovely\, elegiac folk ballad “Azalea” is centered on someone who seems emotionally bereft and spiritually lost\, but is working hard to find their way home. “It’s a heavy song. It’s not a happy song\, per se\,” Starr says. However\, “Azalea” has a distinct streak of optimism near the end\, which Starr says is intentional: “There’s some hope in there\, too. It comes with both Travis and I being fathers. Hold on to your kids as tight as you can without smothering them.” \nThe delicate balance of familial protection also permeates the easygoing “Other Side of the Light\,” a co-write with Levi Lowrey. Written from the perspective of a young boy on an obstacle-filled road trip\, the tune stresses that he’ll find shelter and safety with his mom. In contrast\, the stomping “Hammer and the Nail\,” which Starr wrote with Nelson\, takes another approach to family ties—in this case\, a son who needs to decide if he’s going to give into his wild side and take after his rebellious father. Fittingly\, lively acoustic guitar gives way to an explosive chorus with freewheeling bar-blues piano and raucous electric riffs. \nBe Right Here ends on a confident note\, the organ-driven power ballad\, “Barefoot Angel.” Starr says he doesn’t write many love songs\, but made an exception here. “It’s either me singing about my wife or some guy singing about his wife that’s in the same situation\, which is\, I wouldn’t be able to do anything without her. After crossing paths with award-winning musician/composer Jay McCarrol in fall 2023\, the Montreal-based singer/songwriter felt a sense of musical communion reminiscent of the elation she’d first accessed in singing with her father as a little girl—a connection severed when her dad was killed in a car accident just before her fifth birthday. In the beginning they called themselves the Family Tree\, then Burlap Socks\, and then the Emergency Band. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks\, rural schoolhouse stages\, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams\, Del is the living link. On primetime and late-night television talk shows\, there is Del. From headlining sold-out concerts to music festivals of all genres\, including one carrying his namesake\, there is Del. Where audiences number in the tens of thousands\, and admirers as diverse as country-rock icon Steve Earle and jamband royalty Phish count as a few among hundreds\, there is Del. Emerging from humble beginnings in York County\, PA nearly eighty years ago\, Del was not the likeliest of candidates for legendary status. As a teen\, he was captivated by the banjo playing of one of its masters\, Earl Scruggs\, and decided he’d be a banjo picker\, too. \n The Baltimore/Washington\, D.C. bar scene of the early 1960s was lively and rough. Del caught a break. More than a break\, really. It was an opportunity of a lifetime; joining Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys in early 1963. Considered the Father of Bluegrass\, Monroe transformed McCoury\, moving him from the banjo to guitar\, anointing him lead singer\, and providing him with a priceless trove of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source. Countless hours of recording sessions and miles of tireless touring dotted the decades. Del carried on\, and carried with him the hallowed traditions of the form and its dedicated following. The passing years became certificates of authenticity. So\, in the sea of grunge and R&B that dominated the music scene of the mid-1990s\, it was special\, perhaps even startling\, to see: There was Del. \nNow helming the Del McCoury Band\, with sons Ronnie and Rob\, the ensemble did and continues to represent in a larger\, growing musical community a peerless torchbearer for the entire sweep and scope of bluegrass history. Those many years\, not to mention a good-natured willingness to stay alert to the latest sounds and opportunities around him\, earned McCoury a whole new generation of fans\, including some in unlikely places. “I’m just doing what’s natural\,” says Del. “When young musicians ask me what they should do I always tell them\, ‘You do whatever’s inside of you. Do what you do best.’” No surprise that contemporary\, bluegrass-bred stars sang his praises; marquee names like Vince Gill and Alison Krauss (who first met Del at a bluegrass festival when she subbed for his missing fiddler). Yet\, here too was rocker Earle recording and touring with the group. Here was Phish jamming onstage with the boys. Here was the band on TV\, or headlining rock clubs and college campuses; the can’t-miss appearances at country and jazz festivals. There was Del. “We don’t have a setlist\,” says Del. “We try and work in the new songs\, but a lot of times it’s just requests from the audience. It’s more interesting for the band\, for me\, and for the audience because nobody knows what’s coming next.”  \n Almost unimaginable\, McCoury’s sixth decade in a half-century of bluegrass bliss brings new triumphs\, new collaborations\, and new music. With but a single change in membership in twenty seven years The Del McCoury Band shows unprecedented stability as well as garnering the respect and admiration of the industry for its unmistakable work: ten IBMA Entertainer of the Year trophies (most recently in 2024); in 2003\, Del’s awarded membership in the cast of the legendary Grand Ole Opry; the band’s first Best Bluegrass Album Grammy award\, in ’05\, followed by a second Grammy win in 2014\, (not to mention double-digit nominations). “I know (having the same band) helped with my success. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring worldwide ever since.\nERIK STABNAU\nMusic Director / Saxophonist \n \nTenor saxophonist Erik Stabnau brings his lifelong enthusiasm for big band music to each performance of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Having grown up with a love for the music of the swing era\, Erik naturally gravitated toward Glenn Miller\, drawn to his recognizable melodies and the distinctive sound of his reed section. A Western New York native\, Erik learned to play the saxophone\, flute\, and clarinet in a variety of disciplines before developing an interest in the large ensembles of Ellington\, Basie\, Dorsey\, Miller and others. Excited to pursue a future in music\, he attended college at the Eastman School of Music in his hometown of Rochester\, earning a bachelor’s of music in Jazz and Contemporary Media. Intent on broadening his education\, Erik went on to study music business and recording with a masters degree in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. Prior to his time with the Glenn Miller Orchestra\, Erik performed and recorded as a bandleader and sideman throughout the Northeast\, adding to his credentials experience as an educator\, clinician\, writer\, and arranger. He was thrilled with the opportunity to join the orchestra in June 2017 on tenor saxophone\, playing the music and solos that Tex Beneke first made famous in the 1930’s and 40’s. As a member of the band\, Erik has performed across the US in 48 states and abroad in Canada and Japan and now is honored to step in front of the orchestra as its music director. \n  \n  \nJENNY SWOISH \nVocalist \nJenny Swoish is a vocalist and songwriter with a lifelong passion for performing. A native of Southern California\, she began studying piano\, theater\, voice and dance at a\nyoung age. After singing “stage” versions of works by George Gershwin\, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin\, her interest in jazz blossomed through the classics of the Great American Songbook. She was inspired when exploring different interpretations by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald\, Frank Sinatra\, Sara Vaughn and Dinah Washington along with modern vocalists such as Jane Monheit and Peter Eldridge. Jenny earned her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from California State University\, Long Beach. She studied with critically acclaimed vocalist and educator Christine Guter as well as performed in multiple award-winning ensembles. Because of her passion for the sound\, texture and energy of big band music\, Jenny loves singing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Moreover\, she delights in the chance to see and experience so much of the world while on tour. But what gives Jenny the most joy is bringing the nostalgic sound of Glenn Miller to the thousands of fans who express their thanks and happiness at hearing the songs that evoke such pleasant memories. When not singing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra\, Jenny performs her original music and works as a voice over artist in Nashville.
