This condensed version of the ballet takes place in the dreams of young Clara\, in which she receives dolls who take life as the dancers. Set to the classical music of Tchaikovsky\, Clara’s Christmas Eve dream begins with a visit from the angels and the Sugar Plum Fairy\, and continues with the magical surprises from Herr Drosselmeyer. The ballet was set after the original Ivanov choreography specifically for the youth dancers of SYBC by the late Duncan Noble\, world-renowned dancer\, teacher\, choreographer\, and former Dean of Dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts.

SUMMARY:The Polar Express
DESCRIPTION:$8 Adults / $5 Students and Children \nCome aboard the Polar Express\, a magical train heading to the North Pole. Tom Hanks stars as the conductor—as well as five other roles! Based on the award-winning storybook written by Chris Van Allsburg\, this Christmas story tells of a boy who has reached an age when his belief in Santa is beginning to falter. \nThe young and young-at-heart are encouraged to come dressed in Christmas pajamas and enjoy the show. Santa will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes\, and true to the Polar Express experience\, hot chocolate and cookies will be available\, too. \nLate one Christmas Eve\, a young boy is lying awake waiting for the sound of sleigh bells ringing from Santa’s sleigh. Five minutes to midnight his room begins to shake\, and he hears a thunderous sound outside his window. The boy jumps from his bed and sees a train in the middle of his street. The boy grabs his robe and rushes out the front door to look at the train. The train’s conductor asks the boy if he is getting aboard. The boy asks\, ‘Where are you going?’ ‘To the North Pole\, of course. This is the Polar Express!’ replies the conductor. At the last minute\, the boy jumps on the train and finds other young boys and girls going to the North Pole. Their adventure begins. On the train he meets more children\, among them a know-it-all\, a clever girl and a poor boy. During the trip to the North Pole\, there are several complications before the end of the journey comes. When they reach the North Pole\, the children meet Santa Claus\, and the boy gets the very first Christmas present of the year—a sleigh bell from Santa’s sleigh. They return safely to their homes in time for Christmas Day\, and the boy finds the Christmas present from Santa beneath his tree.

DESCRIPTION:A benefit concert for the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County \nDespite growing up in the small country town of Coshocton\, Ohio\, Allen carries an eclectic variety of musical influences like Def Leppard\, Garth Brooks\, Justin Timberlake\, Goo Goo Dolls and Neal McCoy but truly has his family’s musical history to thank for his uniquely edgy\, country infused sound\, “A lot of my family-members were singers. From 80’s rock to blues and modern country\, they covered it all.”\n\nAfter opening for Kip Moore\, the chart-topping Country rocker gave Allen the advice\, “Quit everything you’re doing\, move to Nashville and write your ass off\,” and Allen did exactly that. The very next day the hopeful singer-songwriter packed his things to seek out Music City for himself and within weeks was calling Nashville “home.”\n\nShortly after arriving in Music City\, the singer-songwriter signed a co-management deal with music industry veterans Herb Graham and Shawn Pennington\, followed by signing a publishing deal. DESCRIPTION:Presented with support from Dr. Shane & Tatum Parmer and Copperleaf Interior Design Studio \n \nThis new and unique show brings the material\, the music and the artists together on stage in a magical\, mystery-filled creation combining visual theater\, dance\, and humor into an exciting\, multi-sensory experience\, the likes of which audiences have never before seen. \nThis is the story of one man’s incredible journey to a parallel universe – a futuristic planet made entirely of aluminum. At first glance this world seems vastly different than ours\, but a second glance reveals it is actually quite similar. \nAluminum pipes come to life right before the audience’s very eyes\, transforming into imaginary\, mysterious\, and playful characters. Much like in our world\, the aluminum universe is also plagued by a fight between good and evil\, where the forces of beauty and compassion strive to triumph over the forces of intrigue and fear. \nThe new show was written and directed by Lior Kalfo\, creator of the internationally successful shows “Voca People\,” “Fantasy\,” and “Glow\,” with choreography by Ido Tadmor\, one of Israel’s foremost choreographers\, and under the artistic direction of Ilan Azriel\, co-creator of the international Aluminum Show. \nThe show is suitable for all ages.

Before Casablanca\, before Titanic\, there was Gone with the Wind. \nThe historic Peoples Bank Theatre is excited to present our first-ever Gone with the Wind Movie Event on November 13\, 2016 beginning at 1 p.m. In addition viewing this beautifully remastered film on the big screen\, you will be treated to a presentation by Terry Lynn Crane. Terry Lynn has written an award-winning book entitled FIDDLE DEE DEE RECIPES: A TASTE OF “GONE WITH THE WIND” which contains not only vintage recipes from the 1800s and recipes popular at Tarleton Oaks\, but behind-the-scenes stories\, scenes cut from the movie\, cast information\, rare movie stills\, autographs\, memorabilia and more. Michel has been called: \n“The closest thing to Sinatra we have ever heard” by “Variety.” \n \nMichel\, a master impressionist for more than 40 years\, has been touring his “Sinatra Forever” show around the country as well as internationally with performances in Canada\, Mexico and Chile. \nMichel has shared the stage with many celebrities including Rich Little\, Mickey Rooney\, John Byner and Sherman Hemsley; opened for comics such as Bobby Collins\, John Pinette\, Rita Rudner and George Wallace; and performed impersonations for such luminaries as Frank Sinatra\, President Gerald Ford\, Tony Curtis and Steve Allen. \nIn 1994\, Michel shared the spotlight with Rich Little playing Bob Hope to Little’s Bing Crosby and Jerry Lewis to his Dean Martin. Little called Michel “one of the best impressionists around today.” \nFor Michel\, a memorable highlight came when he performed his impression of Bob Hope for the comedic icon himself at the Bob Hope Celebrity Golf Classic in Palm Springs. Patton during World War II. In 1943 North Africa\, George Patton (George C. Scott) assumes command of (and instills some much-needed discipline in) the American forces. Engaged in battle against Germany’s Field Marshal Rommel (Karl Michael Vogler)\, Patton drives back “The Desert Fox” by using the German’s own tactics. Promoted to Lieutenant General\, Patton is sent to Sicily\, where he engages in a personal war of egos with British Field Marshal Montgomery (Michael Bates). Performing brilliantly in Italy\, Patton seriously jeopardizes his future with a single slap. While touring an Army hospital\, the General comes across a GI (Tim Considine) suffering from nervous fatigue. Incensed by what he considers a slacker\, Patton smacks the poor soldier and orders him to get well in a hurry. This incident results in his losing his command-and\, by extension\, missing out on D-Day. In his final campaign\, Patton leads the US 3rd Army through Europe. Unabashedly flamboyant\, Patton remains a valuable resource\, but ultimately proves too much of a “loose cannon” in comparison to the more level-headed tactics of his old friend Omar Bradley (Karl Malden). Patton won 7 Academy Awards\, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Scott\, an award that he refused.

In the years that followed\, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom (“Don’t quit your day job!”)\, and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers\, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. \nSince they began\, the Capitol Steps have recorded over 35 albums\, including their latest\, What to Expect When You’re Electing. They’ve been featured on NBC\, CBS\, ABC\, and PBS\, and can be heard twice a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials. \nThe Capitol Steps were born in December\, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Ronald Reagan was President when the Steps began\, so co-founders Elaina Newport\, Bill Strauss and Jim Aidala figured that if entertainers could become politicians\, then politicians could become entertainers! Their first idea was to stage a nativity play\, but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin! So\, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day\, and created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor that was as popular in Peoria as it was on Pennsylvania Avenue. \nMost cast members have worked on Capitol Hill; some for Democrats\, some for Republicans\, and others for politicians who firmly straddle the fence. No matter who holds office\, there’s never a shortage of material. Says Elaina Newport\, “Typically the Republicans goof up\, and the Democrats party. Then the Democrats goof up and the Republicans party. That’s what we call the two-party system.” \nALTHOUGH the Capitol Steps are based in Washington\, DC\, most of their shows are out-of-town or for out-of-town audiences\, whether it’s the National Welding Supply Association\, a University audience\, High Schoolers\, or State Legislators. In fact\, the Capitol Steps have performed for the last 5 Presidents (6\, if you include Hillary). The only complaints the Steps seem to get are from politicians and personalities who are not included in the program! \nNo matter who or what is in the headlines\, you can bet the Capitol Steps will tackle both sides of the political spectrum and all things equally foolish. Once known as the Hippodrome and later as the Colony Theater\, this newly renovated masterpiece is now open for shows and ready for tours! \nExplore the dark passages of the theater\, hear the echoes of voices long gone\, and feel the tingling anticipation as you stand on the stage and imagine a thousand people watching your every movement. \nHidden Marietta took you inside the building before renovation on Ghost Trek years ago. Think of how it looked as you step inside now and see the splendor that has been restored. Learn about the history of the building\, the notable owners\, the quirky and eccentric actors. And perhaps come face to face with those that yet linger in the shadows. \nBring a camera and comfortable walking shoes; we’ll be climbing stairs and descending into the depths on this tour. \nCome explore Peoples Bank Theatre every last Sunday of the month\, June through September.
