Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, Driving Miss Daisy is a warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady, and a proud, soft-spoken black man.
“The play is sweet without being mawkish, ameliorative, without being sanctimonious.” —NY Times.
“…a perfectly poised and shaped miniature on the odd-couple theme.” —NY Post.
“Playwrights Horizons has a winner in this one…gives off a warm glow of humane affirmation.” —Variety.
“DRIVING MISS DAISY is a total delight.” —NY Daily News.
The Neil Simon Festival presentation of this long-running Off-Broadway success and Academy Award-winning film, produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc., brings together two of TV’s most beloved co-stars:
Clarence Gilyard, who played Chuck Norris’ Texas Ranger partner in the 1990s hit show Walker, Texas Ranger and who co-starred with Andy Griffith in the 1980s crime drama Matlock.
Charlene Tilton, who played the role of Lucy Ewing for 11 years running on the TV phenomenon Dallas. In 2012, Charlene joined the cast of TNT’s Dallas revival series, and reprised her role as Lucy Ewing in multiple episodes.
Clarence and Charlene each have millions of fans. Charlene was such a big star on Dallas that she appeared on over 600 magazine covers worldwide during her tenure on the series. And, Walker, Texas Ranger is in syndication worldwide today; in the U.S., the show airs daily on TV Land, and weekly on the INSP tv network. CBS also aired 3 network Walker Movies, all highly rated and a 4th one is in the works.
