You’re killin’ me, Smalls!”
Summertime is almost upon us, which means longer days, warm nights, barbecues, and most important of all: baseball. This June, we’re celebrating Father’s Day and America’s favorite pastime the best way possible, with director David Mickey Evans’ love letter to the game, THE SANDLOT — which also just so happens to be turning 25 this year.
It’s the 1960s, and soon-to-be 5th grader Scotty Smalls is the new kid in the neighborhood While looking for a place to fit in, he hooks up with the local sandlot baseball team, who are themselves looking for a 9th player. The only problem is, Smalls doesn’t know how to play ball. What follows is a heartwarming and hilarious coming of age story featuring a terrifying neighborhood monstrosity known as “The Beast,” irresponsible treatment of priceless memorabilia and, of course, the valuable life lesson that things on the surface are not always as they seem.
